Maxguard alarm and security company

Just ended a 3 year contract with Maxguard. We originally went with Maxguard because we purchased a show home in Milton and it was the system the builder was using. We dealt will "Karl" who handled the sales portion and seems to be a owner or manager there. He was rude from the start but we were eager to get an alarm in place and overlooked it since the system was being installed. Big mistake! We paid for all the additional hardware up front and were under the impression there was no term because of that. Another lesson, read the contract fine print and do not listen to the sales person. There was a 3 year contract. We found this out in the third month because we wanted to cancel and switch to someone else because of poor installer service, installer trying to to enter home without permission when he thought no one was home and alarm was not working (my older daughter was home but studying and not answering the door) and chronic falsehoods communicated by Karl. After 6 months I advised in writing that the contract would expire at the 3 year mark and we were not renewing. Now is the end of 3 years. Karl has deactivated the system. However the new installer has advised that the system has been locked out by Maxguard, the system we paid for in full in advance. I contacted Karl and he states he does not have the code to unlock it, despite that fact he needed that code to deactivate it weeks prior. Seems like a fitting way to end my relationship with Maxguard, since it started with poor service, it ended with poor service. I would avoid Maxguard at all cost. We are now with The Monitoring Centre which so far has been better service and cheaper. Lesson learned. I also found out there is an association of Alarm Companies called CANASA, which Maxguard is not a member of, should have been another red flag to not deal with them.
