Rewiring a hundred year old house

Told by insurance company that I had to remove all the knob and tube wiring in my hundred year old house, I got a series of Quotations. The worst was a contractor and Electrician who quoted 60 thousand dollars to remove all the interior walls and demanded that we move everything out of the house (including my whole family) into storage for 6 weeks.
Peter from Sigma Electric did the job of rewiring the whole house in one week while we lived there, not just removing the old wiring with only 7-8 holes in total which he repaired before leaving, but also adding safety features such as wired smoke detectors at no extra cost. I could not recommend him more highly.
He was a pleasure to work with and he and his colleague had a great sense of Humor.
He was totally trustworthy and professional in every way and from our first meeting I felt completely comfortable entrusting him with the keys to my house while I continued to work. He checked in with me by cellphone as needed but otherwise completed the job as agreed and on schedule without any need for supervision.
I have recommended him without reservation to all my colleagues and friends.

Re-wiring of kitchen lights and diagnosis of electrical surge

I had Piotr diagnose 2 problems in my house. The first was the repair of kitchen lights that were not working. The lights were connected to a transformer that was defective, however, the transformer was hidden behind the walls and was nowhere to be found. Piotr ran new wiring and installed a new transformer. The lights now work.

The 2nd problem I had was a flickering of lights, and a resetting of my clocks every few weeks. Piotr worked hard to diagnose the cause of the problem. He attempted fix 3 or 4 possible problems that may have been the cause.

He was on time, quoted a very fair price and guaranteed the work.

He is an honest guy who works hard. Hes a quality guy.

Sam.

Piotr was very helpful and very professional. His prices were reasonable and he went over and above the call of duty. I would call to use his service again.

Service Upgrade

I would love to add my voice to the praises of Peter at Sigma Electric. I used previous reviews to decide I'd like to call him for an estimate. After meeting him, I chose him for the job, and I was not disappointed. He was professional, courteous, and he stuck to both his price estimate and time estimate.
On top of that, a week after the job, he helped me out of wiring situation I created myself during the evening hours.
I have no hesitation highly recommending Peter. He gives all electrical contractors a good name.

Peter, thanks for another job well done.
I appreciate that you are always prompt and courteous and clean up after the job. Any difficulties you encounter you view as a challenge to be met instead of a problem to avoid. I always feel confident that the job will be done right.

I will definitely pass your contact info on to family and friends.

Thanks so much.

Repair of Hydro Power Line Connection

I recently discovered I had a squirrel problem in my house. They had chewed through the main mast where the Toronto Hydro power lines connect to my house. The squirrels also chewed through the wires under the mast and ripped a hole in my roof, leaving bare wires exposed to the elements and to each other. Hydro refused to fix it, another electrician quoted me an astronomical price after a 2 week delay (clearly he didn't want the job), and another electrician's only response was to laugh at me when I described the problem. Then I contacted Peter, and he immediately called me and expressed his concern that the exposed wires could cause an electrical fire at any moment. He came by the house the next day and arranged to fix the problem on the next non-rainy day. In the interim, he covered the bare wires with a temporary cover to minimize risk of fire until he could fix it properly.

All in one working day, Peter replaced the damaged mast, conduit, wire, and part of the hydro meter that had rusted due to the squirrel damage. He rebuilt the conduit in a different way than before so that squirrels would not be able to damage it again. Peter obtained all of the necessary approvals from inspectors and arranged for Toronto Hydro to redo a permanent power connection to the newly repaired mast. Peter did a phenomenal job, very quickly, and at a very reasonable price. It's hard finding a good electrician in Toronto, as evidenced by Peter being the only electrician who took my problems seriously. I would definitely use Peter again.

Electrical rewiring

If you’re looking for professional quality workmanship at a fair price, Peter and his team at Sigma Electric are your Electricians for Life.

During the kitchen reno of our first century home, it became apparent that the *70% knob-and-tube removed* bandied about at purchasing time was closer to 7%. Peter and Caz rewired the entire house with minimal damage to lath and plaster walls, all the while adding time-consuming features with a smile; they helped make a potential reno disaster bearable, and made our home safe to live in.

Last month we purchased and closed on our second century home; although most wiring had been upgraded, the entire 2nd floor (sandwiched between the finished 1st and 3rd floors) was ungrounded. Again, it was Sigma to the rescue. We were amazed by the lack of damage to the walls and floor, given the circumstances.

Tidy, prompt, courteous and gentle with our houseful of pets, Sigma is our electrical Dream Team. Tackling a large-scale reno is not for the faint-hearted, but we’ve learned the secret to reno success: assemble a professional team you can rely on.

Get ready fellas, I see a new kitchen and powder room in your future. ;-)

Remove knob and tube wiring from century home

During the course of a kitchen renovation it became obvious that it would be a good time to rewire our two story house. I had heard horror stories about the mess that would be made with holes in walls everywhere, so I was more than a little concerned. Well Peter and Kaz did a terrific job! They were thorough, professional, tidy and helpful. During the course of rewiring the whole house they only had to punch a whole in one wall. I could not believe it! They repaired the hole and that was it. All new wiring and a new electrical panel with much less disruption than anticipated. I would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them. Thanks Poitr and Kaz.

electrical short

We were thrilled with the service we received from Sigma. We were able to arrange a mutually convenient time for the visit. Peter was prompt, and did an excellent job of locating and solving our problem. The price was very reasonable and although we have additional work that needs to be done in the future, we were not pressured to arrange to have this done immediately. I would recommend this company to anyone who is looking for good service and a fair price. There is no doubt that when we need any further service, we will know exactly where to look and who to call.
