Repairing split poly-b

Cost of materials, $7.00(two poly-b to PEX adapters with crimps and about 1 1/2 feet of 3/4" PEX), cost of labour, close to $600.00 (for a job that I feel should have not been more than $150.00). Checked repair myself about four hours after completion. The repair was leaking at one crimp. I re-injured my knee by having to crawl under our mobile home to check on work done. I then phoned Clearview and was told that I would have a return call within 15 minutes. I called back the second time after no one called back after waiting 45 minutes. A lady did call back within a short while and said a tech would call me shortly. She asked if the repair could not wait until the next day. My reply was that " Seeing as the temperature was supposed to go down to -9 tonight ajd snow in the forecast, I felt that the leak should be repaired so the pipes could have the insulation replaced to prevent a freezeup." She told me that a tech would call shortly. The tech did call, I explained the problem to him (Derrick). He said he was in Woodbine and would be right over. When he arrived he checked the leak and re-crimped the repaired area to stop the leak. After that he took the time to replace the wet fiberglass with dry fiberglass, that I had provided. I thanked him for his timely response and going beyond what he was supposed to do (replacing the fiberglass insulation). Like I said before, if I did not have an injured knee, I would have completed the repair myself at a total cost to me of less than $20.00, including a $10.00 tool rental fee and one hour of my time, including picking up and returning the crimping tool. I called Clearview due to their website and Homestars reviews, as I was unable to do the repair due to my physical limitations. Every one I dealt with was very polite and professional.

Company Response

I'm sorry to hear you had a negative experience. Although you're entitled to an opinion as to what a job "should cost", however only one with a knowledge of what the company's overhead is can actually state what the job "should cost". Furthermore, all of our quotes are performed BEFORE the work is done, which is the best time to debate price, if there is a debate to be had (as opposed to after the quote, after your authorization, and after the work is complete.) As far as the quote goes, we do not break down our prices nor do we charge "per hour" or "parts + labour". We do not claim to be an hourly rate company, in fact we expressly state we are not. This keeps our customers from dealing with surprise pricing. It does sound as though (we have not heard from this customer in the office, so we can only speculate as to where the job is or who the customer is... Steve, call us in the office so we can discuss this matter and have it resolved, please) the job was performed in a mobile home. For those who are unaware, plumbing in a mobile home is actually mostly done underneath the home. This is a 1.5-3 foot gap, depending on the home, that our technician has to shimmy under. As Steve mentioned, the conditions were such that he actually injured himself while attempting. We do factor things such as this into the price, so while we can appreciate your opinion, we will have to agree to disagree about the value of this job.

Although you, yourself, may have been able to perform the work for less (the same can be said for any repair) that is not the route you went - you had called in for service because of the circumstances and technicians do charge for their time - a charge that is quoted before you decide to go forward with the work.

Again, I'm sorry you had a negative experience with our pricing, please feel free to call in with your invoice number so that management can look into this and we can come to a resolution.

Thanks for your business, thanks for your feedback!
If you were to call in to the office and speak to our Customer Service Manager, Jesse, we could perhaps see about a credit to your account.

I had Clearview send a technician to connect my dishwasher and sink, as I was having a new countertop installed. Joe was punctual, he did the work well and he even cleaned up after himself and I just wanted to take a moment to recognize that! Thanks Clearview!

We always appreciate you taking time to mention positive aspects of the job. We're big supporters of positive reinforcement and the best kind comes right from our customers. We bring up every comment and compliment, good or bad, big and small, in our weekly tech meetings (they happen on Tuesday mornings) while we do in-house training to make sure our technicians are up to speed on the latest technology, policy and procedures going forward. The industry is ever changing and we need to be as well! Thanks for the comments, we'll most certainly pass them to Joe!

I called Clearview because I had a leak from a pipe in my basement shower. Geordie came to help and he was great! He was punctual, confident and very accomodating (he had no problem working around the dogs!). He was competent and was very able to explain what he was doing. Honest and up front about what any charges would be, he was understanding of our priorities in regards to what was needed to be done and what we could afford to have done - we didn't feel pressured with any of the options presented, but best of all: He did the job well and wasn't in a hurry! Thanks Geordie! Thanks Clearview!

Thanks for the great review Bev! We're always happy to hear our techs go above and beyond when it comes to unique sitautions like energetic dogs! Glad you enjoyed our technician being able to take his time and be thorough - hourly rate guys aren't able to provide that "something extra" that pops up near the end of a job, or guarantee your price won't change if the situation becomes more difficult than expected. We love being able to take the time to answer questions, quote on other work, or whatever the situation may be, without our customer watching the clock and their bill increase with every minute! Have some piece of mind by KNOWING what you're going to pay, BEFORE you commit to the job!

My kitchen hose/tap had split open one morning and I had 90 minutes until I had to be at work. I didn't think any plumber would get there before my leaving, but CLEARVIEW did!!! Geordie (the plumber) kindly started his shift 3 hours early to accomodate me, gave me a quick analysis of what needed to be done and what my options were and then got to work! I had no choice but to leave him to work on his own and came home to a new and amazing tap system and a sparkling cleanup of the mess the old tap had made that morning! I am now planning a bathroom renovation and CLEARVIEW are going to be my # 1 choice of plumbers! Val Calgary AB.

Company Response

I think everyone has had "one of those mornings" - unfortunately they can't always be chalked up to being a Monday! We can certainly empathize with having a tight deadline, especially when work is involved. We always do our best to meet customer approved windows, especially in situations like this! Our techs are people too - they understand stressful situations such as that, they're usually quite flexible for our customers. The other nice thing is because we handpick only the finest technicians (who are all security cleared, drug tested, liscenced, bondable and insured for up to 2 million dollars) you can feel comfortable and totally secure leaving our technicians to do their work and lock up behind themselves (after cleaning the job site, of course - as clean or cleaner is our motto).

Thanks Val, we look forward to helping you out in the future!

Water Softner Install

Must be nice to just verbally rattle off an estimate at the door with nothing written down in hardcopy. My mistake in signing off, or even letting the Tech in the door. I had the Softner, all they had to do is install the lines and hook up.

Company Response

Hi there Shaun, I believe we've spoken about this issue already, but I just wanted to take a moment to address the concern. We certainly acknowledged that a clerical error may have taken place; although the price WAS listed on the invoice you signed, before (authorizing work) and after (upon completion of said work) it was not listed on the "Work Authorization" portion as well on the invoice portion, for that we sincerely apologize. Of course, the technician did review the job and price with you before the work was started - of that we can agree - although it wasn't listed in BOTH spots on the invoice, as it should have been.

These are the 3 pillars of our Company: 1. Go over the price. 2. Guarantee that price. 3. Guarantee the work. We follow that every time and we don't start a job until we get the authorization to do so.

Because you felt unsatisfied we issued a courtesy refund of 150.00, in an effort to put our best foot forward and do right by you, our customer.

Thanks for pointing out this error in our paperwork, Shaun, the only way a business can really learn and grow is through constructive criticism! It doesn't go unnoticed, or unappreciated!

I first called in to Clearview when I noticed I could go swimming in my basement! My entire hot water tank had burst all over the floor, water constantly flowing into the tank (and then into my basement!) They sent Ladislav immediately and did absolutely amazing work. He was punctual, polite, and he was able to get the job done quickly and even tidied up after himself. I'll definitely be recommending them to everyone in the future!

Company Response

We're all for swimming pools here at Clearview, but in our experience it's always been better when said pool is planned and anticipated! Glad we could get your unexpected basement lagoon tidied up and taken care of, there's nothing worse than having a flooded basement. Ladislav is an acclaimed technician, so while it pleases us to see your comments, we're certainly not surprised! We handpick our technicians not just for their technical knowledge, but also for their personality! Always happy to help, call us back any time!
