Ted's home inspection service is awesome. He gets to the site early and looks around the external area before you show up. During the inspection, he explains everything thoroughly and patiently answers naive homeowner-to-be questions. Ted provides suggestions and recommendations during the inspection. As another review noted, Ted's home inspection report is an owner's manual for your house. You can go back and make the suggested changes or corrections to make your home a better home for your family. Ted will take the time to review the entire report with you once he finishes compiling it. He will offers to provide advice should you ever need to ask him anything regarding your new home. I would speculate that most home buyers can't appreciate the true value of a home inspection in some of the ways you have described. Unfortunately for many, the inspection is just a necessary formality, where the inspection fee is the critical factor to choosing their home inspector.
Most home inspectors have designed their service to accommodate two inspections in a day- approx 4 hr. turnaround. Whereas I believe the minimum inspection should be a full day turnaround. Years ago I suggested a full day turnaround to the two inspection associations, members balked with: What the @$&? are we supposed to do after the first 2hrs. That was an honest query. things have changed a bit but inspectors are still rushing through your inspection. For myself I cannot, in good conscience, do an inspection in less than a 2 day process- one day to inspect and another to compose a custom detailed report after which, as you have pointed out, we sit down to review.
