I ended up getting Total Move Management as a local (Ottawa) pickup company for my long-distance move as an agent to Great Canadian Van Lines (I hired Viktoria Professional Movers).
They tried to charge me for waiting because we were still packing the last bit. They said they "waited" since 9 a.m. (their promised start time) while they actually came at 10:30 a.m. They were not waiting for us to pack at all because almost all packing had been done before they came. Two friends of ours came to say good-bye and we had a short chat out of the way of the movers. This was also "causing a delay." In the end, I had to agree on their "waiting" for some reduced amount of time.
One our of three guys were working only on recording damages on our goods so that the movers don't have to pay for damages later. You of course pay for this guy.
They walked all over my house with their wet boots without laying protective sheets. What a hard job we had to do afterwards to clean their mess!
After all, there were damages including water damage. It is more than two months after the move and I am still waiting for the resolution. This damage compensation part is actually due to Great Canadian Van Lines and Viktoria Movers.
