I was looking for someone to fix an irrigation issue which was leading to a retaining wall problem at my waterfront property. Bob from Windmill came and gave me a quote claiming that I needed some drains and weeping tile placed. He said he has done a lot of work like this in the past. I had no expertise in this type of work at the time.
After the job was completed the water drainage problem was far worse and severely damaged a flagstone patio on the top of the retaining wall. His team came to fix the problem and found that one of the connections to the catch basin was disconnected. However, even after this was repaired, the problem persisted. He came by once more to assess the matter and did nothing after that. He basically walked away and ignored my correspondence. I then realized that he really had no idea what he was doing.
I did some reading about yard irrigation and repaired the problem myself with about 70 hours of work. I should credit him with 10 pounds of weight loss. The problem with his work was that all drains were placed 1" above grade (you need a pool of water before it empties into the drain) and the weeping tile was not sloped enough to allow gravity to drain the excess water.....seems like a lack of experience or just poor attention to detail. I ripped up all of their work. I place several feet of weeping tile with proper gravity drainage, several more catch basins and reset all of the flagstone. Now there is no drainage problem!!! He has been doing this for years and could not do the job while I figured it out in a week. Obviously, I would not recommend this company.
