Eavestrough Repair

It took a couple of years to tweak the eavestrough job, but Issac of Eastern Eavestroughs came through. In several visits over time, he made the most important repairs to his job.Happily, now long icicles hanging from in front of our bay windows and dripping from the corners of the house are no longer a problem. Pipes expanded from the ice over the last couple of winters have been cleaned out. For a fee, the shingle company who replaced our shingles with new ones before we changed eavestroughs come back to re-position the shingles in front of the bay window so that they would stop curling behind the newly-installed eavestroughs. I took lots of pictures so Issac could see what the dripping issues were in several different spots along the roof.

This fall Issac cleaned out the pipe that expanded over the garage, saying it had about two inches of (oak) mulch in it. He has suggested that we get our eavestroughs cleaned out every year. I do it myself on the first roof level, but will be looking for an eavestrough cleaner to take care of the highest roof of the house which I cannot reach. It gets filled with oak leaves from a neighbour's tall tree.

We had replaced the original eavestroughs to change the colour from light yellow to beige. Even if we had not changed the eavestroughs, given the size of the neighbour's tree which dominates his back yard and leans over our pool , the large oak leaves probably would have become a problem for the former light yellow eavestroughs as well.

Issac made corrections to the job under warranty. He was very fair with me. He says he checked and cleaned out all the eavestroughs he installed on our house and took pictures as well.

I am thankful knowing that no pipes should explode this winter.

My mother's farm house is next to a 180 year old walnut tree. Her house has no eavestroughs and no leaf problems. I wonder how a house like ours here in Unionville would fare if there were no eavestroughs to catch leaves or water. I know of no houses in this city that are without eavestroughs.

Next summer I think I will install a water barrel to catch the drain off by the side of the garage rather than have water rush down the driveway bricks causing erosion. Our driveway is now too inches below the floor of the garage so the car has to take a bit of a run at it to get in. Next job will be redoing the driveway bricks for the fourth time. I recognize that with house ownership there is always a job requiring attention.

The eavestroughs do look lovely against our brickwork and work well with the roofing and new windows.
