Openings Closings and Service

These guys look after my moms pool in Oakville for us. Being elderly and living on her own with family out of town these guys go the extra mile to help her out and are aware she's on her own. All the little extras my mom has the crew do and the inevitable follow up visits to sort her out when she screws something up go above and beyond what they are supposed to be doing. Thanks to Dave, Colin, Andrew, Garrett and all the crew down there for giving our family 1 less thing to worry about with an elderly parent living on her own.

replacing equipment

I wish I knew of HomeStars before replacing all my pool equipment. A couple of years ago I had Total Tech replace my pool equipment along with changing my system to salt and installing a control panel. There was many things along the way I was very displeased with. (don't remember names now..but was for sure dealing with the "owner"for a major part of the installation) His communication was very poor and derogatory towards me. The equipment was to be set up in a new location, (as I found out later) they did not leave good spacing between the equipment and run the lines in the most efficient way. They ran wires through the side of the shed, when I asked them to run them through the floor. There was a problem getting the equipment started...he blamed it on the electrical set up and said it had to be changed, but wouldn't say what the problem was and wouldn't talk to the electrician. It ended up he had to call the equipment manufacturer to talk him through the set up. I wanted a bypass drainage valve put in, he asked me what for...he was going to leave me with no way to drain my water! Over the phone, I inquired about purchasing a timer. They sold me a $300 panel, that could control and diagnose all kinds of things I didn't need...needless to say there was cheaper options, my fault I didn't shop around to know them. Phone calls were slow to be returned. I felt that the boys that were sent to do the installation where not experienced enough. I would not recommend them.

We are truly sorry that Leanne feels this way and has not contacted us to discuss especially since the equipment was installed in 2008 and we have performed additional -non- related work since then. We have thoroughly reviewed the file and the process was handled properly and by industry standards. The main issue was the electrical hookup which was performed improperly by her electrician . This was immediately conveyed to her and it was further stated that we are unable to tell her electrician what to do as we are not licensed electricians. As soon as this was corrected we programmed and set it up properly. All the equipment was operating properly and we re-visited several times to teach her how to operate the system. Prior to her purchasing the system everything was explained in full. We invite her to contact us at any time if she wishes.

pool ladders (2)

I ordered 2 pool ladders in April of this year and took delivery the first week in May. After assembling and installing them on my pool, I noticed that the top steps were well clear of the water. This wasn’t the case for my previous ladders, so I called the store about this. I was told that, although this might be unusual, they saw no cause for concern. However, I soon discovered this not to be the case, as the local birds took to using the steps as a perch with subsequent fouling of the steps. After scrubbing the steps clean a couple of times, I ended up wrapping the steps in plastic garbage bags to protect them.
I further pursued this with the manufacturer of the ladders, who indicated that if I wanted the steps changed to match my old ladders, it would be a custom order at extra cost, and further that I would have to coordinate this through the retail merchant as far as new dimensions and ordering of the parts.
I went back to Total Tech Pools and discussed this with the manager, Colin. He said he would contact the manufacturer to discuss. After about a 2 week delay, he said he discussed with them but then told me if I wanted a custom ladder, I would have to deal with the manufacturer directly.
The manufacturer gave me a price for new ladders, but could not credit me for the ones I had just bought as the ladders were not purchased from them directly. Finally, I went back to Colin at Total Tech Pools and asked what the refund policy was for these ladders. He indicated that, as the ladders had been used, he could not take them back and suggested I try and sell them privately. I pointed out that these ladders had never suited my purpose because of the top step location, but Colin was adamant that he would not take these back and that there was no further recourse for me. Until now I have enjoyed a good relationship with this company, but this episode has really soured the relationship. I do not feel that I have been fairly dealt with on this issue.

We are sorry that Ron feels this way but we sold him the only standard ladders available in the industry currently. Ladders are designed to have the top tread above the water for safety reasons currently and were replacing much older ladders. We were certainly not attempting to hide anything and we do not manufacture the ladders either. We could not take them back at this point as they had been used and had also bee soiled by birds ( as stated ). The vast majority of pools have ladders like these and it has never been an issue in the past.

Green pool

My pool was showing signs of green, and dirt on the bottom. The total TechTeam was able to tell me what chemicals I needed to use to clear it up without costing me an arm and a leg.

Replace Pool Liner

This company is fabulous. We contacted them in crisis mode after noticing that our pool had lost about a foot of water overnight on a Saturday morning in early-October. They were the only company of the 3 that we contacted that actually gave us useful advice to deal with the crisis before coming to quote on the liner replacement. They showed up promptly and were friendly and knowledgeable. We thought that we were racing winter & had visions of stressing all winter about more leaks, but they had the new liner in & the pool covered within 2 weeks! Excellent, excellent service.

pool opening

I was so disappointed with TTP. this is our first year with the pool and we don't know much about it. we call TTP to open the pool, the guys came just open the cover and turn on the pump. there are two switch on the pump, they just turn on one and it waw no working properly. I call them and ask them to check out the pump why it's not working, they refused to come down. They asked me what wrong with the pump and of couse I don't know(if I know what wrong, I won't call them). and they said if I can't tell them what wrong, they wont go down because they are far away from us and it will cost them gas to come down. It was ok at that time and I didn't border to talk to them again.
But it's not done yet. Now it time to close my pool, I call another company to close my pool. When they came and open my cover, it was terrible ugly, dirty with the old leaves left over from last time that they did not even take them off. The cover was ripped and the clip was bend that they couldn't clip to the pool walls....It cost me alot more to buy the new cover than just paying for TTP to open the pool...what can I say...
People, please keep watching when they come to open or close your pool.....

Unfortunately due to the anonymity of this review, it is difficult to verify any details that Vivien has provided with regards to the opening, but I will do my best to address each of the issues mentioned. Vivien, or any other potential customers, are encouraged to contact us directly with any questions or concerns.

The services that are included in a pool opening are outlined on our website (www.totaltechpools.com), on our pool opening flyer, in store, and by Total Tech Pools staff upon booking. Depending on the package selected, these services go beyond simply removing the cover and turning the pump on. The entire process also takes place in two stages (once again, depending on the package selected).

The first stage is for de-winterizing the equipment and preparing the pool to be started up. This stage typically does not include starting the pump as the water level must be half way up the skimmer in order to ensure proper circulation. Since the majority of water is drained out of pool in order to properly winterize it upon closing, there is typically not enough water in the pool to start it up. There are exceptions; if there is already enough water in the pool to be started up, then our crews will start the system. If there isn’t enough water in the pool or if there are other outstanding issues (such as technical problems with the pump), the customer is required to fill the pool up with water and contact us when the pool is ready to be started up, at which time a technician would come out to the pool to start it up at no charge. In the event of technical issues, the customer is informed on the invoice or in person by the crew performing the opening, and advised on the next best course of action. Once again, because I am unable to reference our record for this particular opening, I can’t comment on what, if any, issues were present.

When a customer calls in with an issue with the pump (or any piece of equipment), we ask the customer to identify the symptoms of the problem to us providing as many details as possible. The reason we do this is to try to troubleshoot the problem over the phone without having the customer have to pay for a service visit by a technician. In the event the problem cannot be resolved, or if the customer has specifically requested a technician to come out to the property to address the problem, an appointment is scheduled for the earliest available date. Our service range goes from Waterdown to Woodbridge and everywhere in-between with no fluctuation in price based on location. Assuming Vivien is located in Oakville (according to his/her Homestar account), there is no immediate reason why service would have been refused.
Referring back to the services included with the opening, dirt and leaves are removed from the top of the cover, and the condition of water under the cover is dependent on the condition of the pool when it was closed as well as preventative care during the winter as necessary (such as replacing water bags damaged over the winter). Getting the pool cleaned up is a service that Total Tech Pools provides, but is not included with the opening.

The last issue mentioned in this review is the ripped cover and the bent coping. Depending on the type of cover, rips can be quite common and would account for leaves and debris getting into the pool over the winter. The bent coping is typically from lock-in covers being used past their recommended lifespan. As they get older, the covers themselves shrink, putting increasingly more pressure on the coping surrounding the pool each year when weight accumulates on the cover over the winter.

This has been quite a lengthy response to a rather short review, however it is necessary in order to properly address each of the issues noted without being able to reference the particular services or customer. Please feel free to contact myself or any of the other staff here at Total Tech Pools if you have any further questions or concerns.

Best Regards,

Evan Harben - Manager, Total Tech Pools

Liner, cover, pump, filter, heater

This is our third season with a pool (that came wih the house) and with TTP. Since day one TTP staff has gone out of their way to help us. We had not even purchased anything from the company when we requested and got a visit to walk us through the equipment and basic maintenance. One thing that has always made us trust TTP is that they sincerely tell us when we should not be spending money on things, or when we have the flexibility to delay replacements. On the other hand, when they tell us that we need something, we listen carefully.

Over the three seasons we have bought from TTP a new liner, pump, sand filter, safety cover, heater, openings and closings, and a load of chemicals. Each and every time, the guys take their time to explain our options and help us find the solution that best meets our needs. Even once, management was more than generous and fixed a damage that we mistakenly caused...

I cannot remember the number of times that we have called or visited the store and each and every single time we feel treated as special clients. Not once I have had the feeling that I am getting an unfair deal. This is important because when it comes to pools the average person knows nothing, so trust is essential! This is why we keep going back.

This is the first time I ever write a review on Home Stars, and I do so because TTP is a store that genuinely cares for excellent customer service, honesty and trust. Plus they are very friendly (even my daughter loves the store, she gets a popsicle at every visit!). Thank you TTC, this is a well-deserved compliment and I am happy to recommend you.

Safety cover and work over the years.

I have been using Total Tech for all my pools needs for many years. Even though I am in Burlington and the are a bit further than some of their competition, I find the extra drive worth it in every aspect.

Most recently I had Total Tech install a new safety cover for me. The continuous professionalism of the team working in the office never ceases to amaze me and the workmanship of Andrew, their project leader, is second to none. He and his coworker were able to complete a tricky installation into a wooden deck in a very timely manner and the end product looks incredible.

I first started using Total Tech about 12 years ago and within that time I have had them redo everything on my pool including a variable speed pump, sand filter, high efficiency heater, salt water chlorinator, liner and now safety cover. And this doesn't even include the years of high quality openings, closings and service repair work.

I would recommend Total Tech to anyone looking for a reliable pool service company.

Total Tech is totally the best.

-Peter

Pool pump and liner repair

Great service! Highly recommend this company!
Was in a bind and needed quick service..even though they were very busy at this time of year they actually sent 2 service techs to my house before I even woke up! The two young guys they sent identified the problem in literally less than 2 minutes! I've been trying to figure out why we lost pump pressure for 3 years! They fixed it in under 20 minutes and made it better than when it was new!

Fixed the liner in places where it was coming loose too and didn't even charge me for it!

These guys really did right by me and my family. I own a number of service businesses myself (not in the pool industry obviously) and it is so hard to find young guys that really care and know what they're doing... these guys do!

If you're looking for a really good pool company I HIGHLY recommend Total Tech Pools !!!

What could this company do to improve their services?
Loved the service, the guy on the phone when I initially called (can't recall his name at the moment) actually took 15 minutes with me and talked me through the issues I was having with my pool)... in other words, he spend his time with me when he didn't even know he would get my business... this is rare these days!
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
My advice to anyone with a pool in the Oakville area is to call this company... they were really great.

Pool Upgrades

I hired Total Tech in 2008 as I was disappointed with my previous pool company. My husband and I were looking to make some upgrades to our 20 year old pool at the time. I was referred to Total Tech by several friends and can not thank them enough for pointing me in the right direction. As soon as we walked into their store we knew we had found our future pool company, the staff were very friendly and extremely knowlagable. The store atmosphere is inviting and with treats for the kids and biscuits for our dogs, weekly visits to the pool store has become a family event!

In 2008 we purchased a new pool liner and safety cover. The store staff remained in touch with us throughout the entire process and the project manager Andrew did a spectacular job at renewing our pool. We could not have been happier with the entire process and the workmanship (the liner was even completed well ahead of the expected installation date)! The following season we attended Total Tech's Annual Spring Barbeque and Sale had some spectacular food and bought a new pump, filter, heater, and converted our system to salt. The following week they had their service technician Garrett out to install all the equipment. Not to our surprise, as per our experience with the rest of the staff, Garrett was wonderful and extremely professional.

I can not thank Dave, Bryan, and Matt enough for all there help week to week in the store and taking care of our pool! I would recommend Total Tech Pools to anyone looking for a pool company. Stop by their store, meet the staff, and you will never have to look anywhere else ever again!

Thank you Total Tech!
