Home Renovation

We made the error of relying on reviews appearing on sites such as this one. We had carefully planned, down to meticulous detail, our home renovation. After all, we were not inexperienced at this. We had done a home reno at your previous house, and that was a happy experience. This one was the last one we ever wanted to do. We loved where we lived. We were going build the house our children would grow up in, the house that they would forever associate with home and a happy childhood.

The experience was nothing short of nightmarish. I scarcely know where to begin to list all the headaches. Basically, it comes down to:
• Lack of a competent site manager: what you need a general contractor to do is to be around and understand what is needed. The general contractor has the entire picture, and acts as the point of communication between the clients and the trades. The general contractor needs to provide direction and co-ordination to the trades. Utter and complete failure on this front. Somerset weren’t even a competent dispatch service (getting the right people to show up on the right dates); much less providing a management or oversight function. Completely useless.

Company Response

Even though you bit the hand we extended to you (more than once); and you profess to be experienced, you really seem to refuse to recognise or internalise that we FULLY FULFILLED OUR CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS (which is borne out fully by YOUR Professional Architect).
Our site staff have been with Somerset for many years and very competent, honest and trustworthy. This particular site-super has worked for Somerset for over 15 years.
I need to point out that your disappointment is merely because you weren’t able to manipulate us into conceding items that were not specified in our agreement. On occasion we offered, as an act of goodwill, to split an unexpected cost; this shows our generosity!
We have tons of wonderfully pleased and satisfied, present and past, customers; we are sorry you aren’t one of them. At least, let me make this very clear, you have a gorgeous home that Somerset will proudly say “we built it”.
