Move

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! Everything that could have gone wrong did, They were late, very slow, took long breaks, truck broke down twice, overcharged three times their quote taking no responsibility for how long they took and charged me for the long breaks and getting lost and truck breaking down. Absolutely the worse service I have ever had for anything in my life.

A Dishonest Moving Company with No Integrity

My Story is the same as Jim Renshaw from Ottawa below. April 2013, I received an email pamphlet from this moving company about a Spring Offer and was even contacted by Priscilla (who's unfortunately not with the company anymore). After that, I asked her if they will start to charge me once their crew arrived and she did confirm that to me. On April 30 (my moving day) a truck arrived with a driver name Faid which happens to be just a part timer with the company where the company hires him and his truck. With him is just a part time student. So the first 30 minutes is for us to sign some papers which are about materials, trip insurance and Contract Terms and Condition which every customer should give more attention because the initial contract terms and condition initially sent is different with the one that they will bring with you for you to sign. And if you're a busy person on your move day, they take advantage of it where you will have no chance to read it. Along with those papers is also a summary of charges in blank where you are obliged to sign or otherwise they will not start the move. Trusting them that time that they will charged me fairly and as per agreed and they are accredited with BBB, I signed that paper which is the biggest mistake I ever done. For me, I don't want to pay more for the extra hours so I help with the move. Move took total of 5 hours; distance from my old place to new is approximately 12 kms. The next two days I was surprised to see that this moving company is deducting an amount in my credit card without informing me of my total bill and I didn't even received my Invoice. So I called them and ask why I don't have my invoice yet they already charging me for an amount that I do not know. So I made a dispute and I was contacted by Amanda of their Billing and Claims Dept. (which happens to be not with the company anymore too). So they charged me two hour $169.00, travel time for 1 hour = $49.00, 6 hours Loading and Preparation = $294.00 (take note, my move only takes 5 hours), Truck preparation = $49.00, Fuel 0.89 x 113kms = 100.57, Mileage = $100.57, Supplies = $543.00 which is the part that really sucks. They included a blanket on my bill to the fact that their promotion says “Complimentary Blankets”. Guess what how much is that on my bill $420.00, funny that whoever prepared this calculation doesn’t know multiplication because if you’ll see their bill, it’s 14 x $15.00 which is supposed to be $210.00. My complain was also filed to Better Business Bureau since no actions is being done on my dispute. For the past 6 months, they haven’t responded to the bureau that’s why their accreditation was revoked. Maybe I’m not the only complainant with the same issue.
So for other people out there who are planning to deal with a moving company, may this story serve as an example that is very cautious in dealing with moving companies especially North York Moving and Storage.

North York Moving

Never ever hire this unprofessional and fraudulent mover! April of last year, we took advantage of their "Spring Discounted Offer/Moving Sale". Their rate is $49 per hour for 2 men crew. The driver/mover arrived with a helper (a student/mover assistant) late by 2 hours. The driver insisted that we have to sign the new agreement for the supplies they will need for the move (ex. tape) . My husband provided his credit card to pay for the deposit of $200. For 5 hours, our bill should have been $401 (including the 8 pcs. packing tape for $5 each and 1 plastic wrap for $45. We only have small 20 boxes of clothes, a dining table and chairs, a queen size bed. Later on we found out that the company tried to charge our credit card several times and was successful to get only 500 instead of 1500 as per their bill. This company invoiced us for 1500 including supplies totaled 543 (rental of blankets for wrapping our furniture - 14 x $15=420, etc.. and for travelling from Markham to Richmond at maximum 13km, they charged us fuel and mileage for $200 equivalent to $.89 x 113km x 2. They are too slow and unprofessional. My husband has to do the lead to load and unload our things faster. If you deal with this company, expect to be robbed. It is a real nightmare. Until now, their paralegal is calling us to pay for our balance of $700 instead of correcting their billing and be honest to deal with their customers in good faith!

House move

On NO account hire this company! They are inefficient and dishonest! Let me tell you my story. I engaged them to move me from my semi-detached home into a townhouse, here in Oshawa - a distance of 7 kms - last April (2013) Two men arrived in a moving truck, which incidentally carried no company logo whatsoever. That should have aroused my suspicions for a start. The first half hour seemed to be spent by me filling in various forms, and them telephoning the office. They declined to commence work until I had signed a Visa form. They commenced loading the truck and worked from 10.00 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.at which time they told me they had done enough and would return the following day to complete the move! As our beds were all on the truck, we were forced to spend the night in a motel! The following day the crew arrived at 9.30 a.m. and completed the move by 1.30 p.m. So, in total they had spent 12 1/2 hours on the move. At NO time was any overtime rate mentioned, and I was never consulted on this possibility. It was seven days later, when I checked my Visa account, that I discovered the company had charged me $4,066.25! Unbelievable! It took me a further month before I was able to prise any sort of invoice from them. When it came, I discovered that included in that figure, they had charged me $911 for "supplies" on Day 1, and $896 for "packing material" on Day 2. The truck was already packed on Day 2, so where did this charge come from? Over the next 5 months I attempted to contact these people in order to address my problem. Eventually, a person by the name of Youlanne contacted me, and admitted that the company HAD overcharged me on the hours, and that they would also reimburse me for the motel cost. They would send me a cheque for $505.49. This payment actually came in the form of two seperate cheques, both of which subsequently "bounced" Further attempts to contact anyone in the company failed, as they would neither return my calls or respond to emails. It was at this time that I discovered this 'review' site! Oh, how I wish I had discovered it before hiring this company. Do you think it is any coincidence that, of the 44 reviews, 20 of them rate them at 9 or 10, whilst a further 21 rate them at 1 or 0? I also discovered that in September of 2013, they had their acreditation withdrawn by the Better Business Bureau for failing to respond to customer complaints! This company grossly overcharged me by falsifying the number of hours and charging me twice for packing materials. I have since reported them to the Ministry of Consumer Services and am informed that an investigation will proceed dependent on further complaints. I urge anyone else who has had a similar experience to myself to contact the said Ministry. It is disgusting that businesses should be allowed to defraud the general public in this way. Buyer Beware, indeed!

Moving Homes

I hired North York Moving in July and I promised them I'd write a review since I couldn't tip them and i personally feel they deserved it. These guys were pretty decent, Didn't take too many breaks and gave me a few freebees supply wise.I use to be a mover so I'm not new to this I know what companies usually charge, people act like getting charged for fuel is some kind of great mystery and then hop into a cab and pay 2 bucks per km. I've seen my fair share of shady movers, These guys aren't really anything to worry about.

Perfect move

Thanks north york moving for the great, stress free move.
They considered moving my households with the sort of care and professionalism that I would wanted. Other than few glassware, nothing got a single scratch on it and it went smooth and straight.

10 HOURS TO MOVE 66 SQ. FT.

I hired NYM because they had a spring deal ($49/hr) with no hidden costs, SO THEY SAID. They were 1 hour late, took a lunch break after an hour (which I paid for), were incredibly slow, broke the leg on my entertainment unit, and had the nerve to ask for a tip. The list is endless. They charged my VISA $1313 the day after the move and didn't even send me an invoice. I was told that I would be billed for the remaining balance if I provided $150 deposit. We visited their office to explain the discrepancies, they said they would take care of it and then sent me an invoice for $1218 and then another one for $999 and then the final one for $927 which added up to $897. I spent 5 LONG months trying to reach these people. They ignored all emails and phone messages. We then contacted VISA who was able to retrieve $400 back. They were rude, ignored me and generally very unprofessional. My total cost for my small apartment was $1077. They do seem to very shady.
