Upselling and Unprofessional

I have used this company in the past and had good experiences. However my most recent job with New Canadian Plumbers involved fixing a leaky pipe coming from my air conditioner.

The plumber who came to assess the job, first said that I needed to:
-install a new drain in the basement ($4,000),
-update my trap ($4,000) and
-to replace the stack ($7,500). I found out after the job that they would be leaving the wall incomplete and I would have to spend a few more hundred dollars bringing in a carpenter to install drywall.

He also told me he would reduce the cost of the stack if I agreed to it immediately and would bring it down to $7,100. I was unfortunately naive and agreed to 2/3 repairs as he made them sound urgent which ended up costing me $13,500, plus another $1,000 to bring in cleaners and a carpenter for to install drywall.

During the repairs, their team would throw cigarettes my tenant's barbecue and ruined a desk and towels altogether costing $239 in damage. New Canadian Plumbers did agree to cover the cost of damages.

I found out later when speaking to 2 separate HVAC technician that fixing a leaky air conditioner should cost between $100-$200. I felt extremely foolish and dissatisfied with the pressure put on me to spend thousands of dollars. In a big way this is my fault for succumbing to pressure and not getting more quotes, but I incorrectly assumed this company would not be pushing me to make unnecessary repairs. I was wrong.

To summarize, my most recent experience with New Canadian Plumbers has included damage to my property and unprofessional pressure on me to spent 10 times more on a repair than I should have. I will personally never be using New Canadian Plumbers again.

Approximate cost of services:
$13,500.00

Company Response

Our technicians do not pressure anyone into deciding on the spot, they simply offer solutions to resolve issues they find need to be addressed. They only suggested replacing the plumbing stacks and the drains underground as they were 100-year-old drains, cracked and leaking. These are not the sort of issues a HVAC technician can fix, especially not for the amount they quoted. Our crew worked hard and were on site until late at night to repair the plumbing for you. We do apologize for the inconvenience of the damages caused and we compensated you for the damages in good faith. We are sorry to hear that you feel this way.
