Repaired outdoor water faucet

I used Milani Plumbing because of a Referral from a friend. Joe the Plumber came by June 8 (job no is 857319) and looked a my leaky water faucet, and fixed my troubled water faucet , he had to solder the faucet come apart, while waiting for the pipe to cooled down , i asked Joe to help looked at another faucet i had which i believe is leaking too. Joe took a quick look and said it just not turn off tightly enough. Trusting that he is the expert and i am not, i assume he is right. The next day i notice that the facuet that was looked at was still leaking and i called Milani 24 hrs after the appointment . I told that that the about what happened and they said that they will come by again and look at it but they will charge me a $98 "continuing rate " which i feel was absurd.

I told them that i trusted their expertise that by i went by their word , now they want to charge me $98 just to have a look where it was already looked at and their plumber said it was not shut tightly enough. Will never used this company again. Really disappointed.

Company Response

Thank you for your feedback, customer service is very important to us and we are sorry to hear that you were left unsatisfied. However, we were unable to find your service call in our history. We only have one plumber “Joe” and he was not working on May 22 as it was a day off for him. We would really like to come up with a resolution for you so if possible could you please provide us with a job number, address or phone number, please send it to marketing@milani.ca, so we can address this for you promptly. Thank you and we look forward to your response.

Radiant Heat System, sewer line inspection, PRV replacement

We've used Milani to install an innovative heating system for our half-dupex. Dave and Steve were both great to deal with, and did a very professional job while also being a pleasure to have in the house. On another occasion we contracted Milani to perform a camera inspection on our sewer line and were similarly pleased with their service. We'd highly recommend them to anyone in need of plumbers. The Air Miles points are another nice bonus.

Water Heater

My parents (both 83) called Milani in September 2012 re: no hot water. One "tiny" plumber came out & decided he could not move the stacked, condo style, washer & dryer, by himself, to get at the hot water tank, so called for and waited for back up (I've moved this washer dryer, solo, by hand and with a dolly). After the two of "Milani's finest" examined the tank, they hit the reset button and charged my parents $360.00.
My parents complained & got $25.00 refund. 2 weeks later, no more hot water and my parents called the Milani gong show (probably out of loyalty to old Mr. Milani). They came out and replaced a $47.00 part and gave them a bill for over $217.00 Milani says that they gave my parents a 1.5 hour break on the second bill, worth about $225.00. They seem to think that nearly $600.00 to replace a $47.00 part is fair. If my parents hadn't complained and gotten a "break", the total would have been over $800.00. The whole thing should have been resolved the first time, by one guy for less than $300.00. How you think that you gave them a break and still pocketed over $550.00 for installing a $47.00 part... is beyond me.
Manager at Milani says "we already resolved this with your parents & they signed off on it". Like I said, my parents are 83 years old and english is their second language. Just cause you got two elderly people to sign on the dotted line doesn't mean you didn't screw them over..... YOU DID!

Response to Milani comments:
Just because you gave some concession and the accepted it, doesn't mean that you made things right! Or that it was ethical or fair. You can't even read your own invoice! The $97 was just another labour charge. It was not a part. They did nothing but do a "reset".
Your dynamic duo couldn't even figure out how to put a bifold closet door back on. I arrived in town just as the two man Milani gong show was packing up. They struggled repeatedly with the closet door not shutting properly. I finally told them to leave and adjusted it quite easily. I don't have the receipts at my disposal now, but will be visiting in a couple of weeks and will post images of both receipts. It's quite easy to see that the first bill was nothing but labour charges. Or you could post them. Feel free.

Thank you Venice, for reviewing our situation and addressing our issues. I recognize that Milani has a long history of good customer service and appreciate your acknowledgment that things could have gone better in this case.

Service

After a day of us trying to fix our clogged sink we decided to call Milani. I am very happy with the service I received. Wes showed up on time, completed the work quickly and cleaned up after. Wes was polite, and professional. I would definitely recommend Milani to my family and friends.

Heating

One of the bedrooms was continuing to heat even thou go the thermostat was turned way down. Called Milani the same morning and they were able to come that afternoon. serviceman arrived within the provided time frame and only took less than half hour to find out what the problem was, fix the problem, and test the heater after it was fixed. I had an unrelated question about the hot water tank and the serviceman took his time to explain things to me. Quite expensive though I must say. $180/hr for the first hour even if they only take 5 minutes to fix the problem. but it was nice that they could show up the same day to fix the problem.

Fix furnace and heat pump

I found that Milani was very reasonable to work with and they were able to fix my furnace and heat pump, 2 separate issues an honor the parts warranty with Lennox, even though I hadn't bought the furnace and heat pump from them. They were very responsive and I would call them again.

Renovation and upgrade

I called these guys as I had seen them in my neighbourhood. I explained what I was trying to achieve and they offered good sound advice. They ended up saving me lots of money from my budget, by giving me lots of options. I felt like I was in control of the project and not being steam rollered into work I didn't want

low hot water pressure

UPDATE: The problems I had with this most recent call were dealt with by the company in a professional way and the compromise they came up with was reasonable. I've updated my score to a 7 and will probably use them again.

I tried to post a 10 star rating for Milani based on previous experiences which have all been excellent along with a 0 star rating for the most recent experience which was awful but I'm not allowed to post 2 reviews for the same company. Here is my most recent experience:

Previously I've had nothing but great experiences with Milani plumbing but unfortunately my most recent experience was terrible. I called Milani about an issue with my hot water - the cold water pressure was working fine, the same as it had previously but the hot water would come down at a trickle. The plumber shows up and let's just say he was far from pleasant - this isn't important to the issue but not acknowledging or saying hi to my wife and daughter as you walk by them when you come in with an annoyed look on your face is not the type of service I'm sure Milani expects.

He comes down to the hot water tank and immediately notices the PRV which regulates the pressure. He says our model has too low a setting and that is the problem. I show him how that the cold water pressure is fine. I explain that the pressure has been fine for the 4 years we have lived here. He goes back to the PRV each time. I ask him to try other tests to narrow down the problem. He responds with "Like I've been saying over and over, it is the PRV. If you want I can cut open the hot water tank.". I ask him if he can measure the hot vs cold water pressure in one of the bathrooms and he says he can't without a hose attachment in the sink. I ask him about it being debris or sediment in one of the pipes - "no, you have a water pressure problem". Finally towards the end of the service call he remembers that he does in fact have a tool that can measure pressure in a normal sink, wow how about that. He goes upstairs and then tells me "Like I have been saying all along, the hot and cold water have the same pressure." although he doesn't show me the readings. I grab a glass and go to the sink and fill it with cold water - it fills in 3 seconds. I switch it to the hot water and it takes 10 seconds. I ask him how they could possibly have the same pressure and repeat for the 20th time that the cold water pressure hasn't changed and is fine. Finally I give in and he leaves.

I book my followup appointment for a week later on a Friday not because I wasn't available during the week but because I knew he didn't work on Friday's. The new plumber comes in and wow, a smile and a hello. I try to quickly explain what the initial problem was but he was there it install the new $270 + tax + additional parts PRV so that's what he did. After he was done the pressure improved - cold water was coming down even faster and hot water had a slightly better trickle but as I had fully expected, it was not fixed. I was worried he would try to somehow cover this up but right away he said that the problem wasn't fixed. He decided to check one of the pipes for debris and 10 minutes later, after removing some debris/sediment, I had hot water pressure. My total bill over the 2 visits was over $900...

So to recap, a plumber who ignores everything that goes against his initial flawed theory despite me asking him for the entire hour to look at other possibilities (since his conclusion made no sense to anyone with any sort of problem solving ability) cost me over $350 in parts that I didn't need and about $300 in labour that I didn't need. The remaining $250 is reasonable and includes clearing a plugged toilet, the 10 minutes spent clearing the debris that caused the problem along with replacing a corroded pipe in the exhaust.

I'm hopeful that Milani will resolve this and restore my faith in the company
