POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE

Purchased a parasol umbrella in Pickering last October, end of season sale. Did not install it until three weeks ago. The crank mechanism did not work, the umbrella won't stay open. It was not in a box when I received it so I suspect it was defective when I received it, last one in stock! I returned it under the 1 year warrantee. I was told it would be repaired or replaced. Three weeks after I returned it I still have no response from the "warehouse". Calls go unanswered. Still waiting. No Umbrella to use after full payment. Last purchase from DOT Furniture.

12 ft Parasol Umbrella - Poor Manufacturing

We bought umbrella in Milton store. We used the umbrella 3 times maximum and watched it in a light wind self destruct. The top mast is attached to upright with a plastic fitting that only goes into extrusion approximately 3 inches max and attached with 5/15 bolt. Not enough strength to withstand any wind. We watched it self -destruct with a light breeze. Customer experience is non existent and they tell us we did not take good care of umbrella and that it was wind damage. Paid another $150 for repair. We will use it in zero wind conditions going forward. DO NOT buy any product off this company!!

12 foot patio umbrella with Tilt

Bought this umbrella around Nov 2013 from the outlet center on Ronson Dr Etobicoke. Didn't start using this until spring of 2014. I didn't realize all defective products are sent to their outlets fixed and resold again. The sales person never mentioned
nor were there any signs advising customers. The granite base broke apart from the adhesive used by Dot Furniture. The umbrella arms snapped off in 3 places May 20th 2017 from slight wind. I suspect the umbrella metal fatigued before I bought item. Very cheap quality and would never buy from this company again.

Entire Patio set

Never, Never buy from this company! We purchased a full patio set from D.O.T. within one year all the cushion faded to the point that there was no pattern left on the cushions. The next year we brought the cushion out from indoor storage only to have all the fabric deteriorate and tear. Customer Service were extremely unhelpful and told me they do not warranty the cushions for more than one year and that they no longer make those cushions (wonder why). Due to the configuration of the cushion they cannot be easily replaced, without having to pay someone to make new ones. The best they would do (after telling me they don't make the cushions anymore) is to advise me to go to their store and see if I can find something that might work.

At the time of purchase I was told there was a life time warranty on the set as long as I had the original receipt, which I do.

Terrible quality bad customer service. We just paid $1500. for a patio set that we used 3 seasons.

Umbrella

My Wife purchased a 12 foot patio umbrella in yellow. While umbrella was up a Little breeze on a sunny day swung the umbrella but caught it in time before smashing into a near by wall. 2nd time it happened I was not so fast enough and smashed into our wall damaging the umbrella. I suspect faulty base as it unhooked itself to swing under a light breeze. And of course Dot stands by their products and have absolutely no defects in their products (that are shipped from China mind you).
So Here I am stuck with a busted umbrella damaged by "WIND" that it DOTS disclaimer says warranty does not cover wind damage.

Now the wonderful customer service just as the other comments in here. Called with no answer and a full voice mailbox. I had to go to a store myself to get someone. yadda yadda yadda I take my umbrella in to have rods and the torn canopy fixed. SIX WEEKS LATER it is ready. Well somewhat.... as the fabric was not replaced. I ended up leaving the umbrella behind again as they waited to get the fabric colour that I have which is yellow. I get called back in a few days to be told they don't have the yellow but we can give you brown or red. I said no to those colours as we bought for the yellow. "well you can check back in the spring for the yellow fabric" they say.

Now it is spring and I call about my yellow fabric to be replaced and NOT IN STOCK. I am told they cant order just one neither as it comes from CHINA. Now back to fighting with DOT.... Stay tuned!

DONT BUY from this place.... Stick to Costco if you are a member!

12' Sun Garden Parasol

Quality- Poor- I am not one to get upset wasting my time writing reviews but I spent around $1500 for the 12' Sun Garden Parasol that looked great the first year. Took down and stored in garage in winter. 2nd year the base deteriorated and became brittle, discoloured, and the fabric faded dramatically. I would not buy a toy umbrella for my childeren's sandbox from DOT as they did not have any customer loyalty for my conerns.

pathetic quality of resin wicker

All my resin wicker has disintegrated, fallen off, creaked and looks terrible!! Purchased in June 2013 this damage started in May 2014. I phoned customer service and got no response. Gave up and hoped the problem would not get worse. It did. Now I only hope to get one more season out of the 4 chairs and table. I will never buy from these crooks again.

Patio furniture

I purchased a table and umbrella just over a year ago. I brought in my umbrella because one of the ribs snapped. I was told that they would repair it at no charge. I get a call two days later that they would charge me $30. I called several times after messages were left for me to call and they would not answer. I called head office and they said that I must have a bill even though they have it in their system. Wow what terrible customer service. They do not stand behind their product. They do not keep their word. I will never buy from dot again. Buyer beware!

UPDATE:
I took my broken chair back to the DOT location where I purchased it about 10 months ago. I could not find my receipt and I was very apprehensive about having to go through this.
However, I was very pleasantly surprised when the store representative took a look at the broken chair and said 'well, I have one more in the back' after which he went to the back, brought out the chair, and then put it in my car.
Needless to say, I was happy with the experience, not to mention quite relieved.
The rep told me that the store has recently come under new management (him) and that he doesn't really bring in this teak furniture anymore because he's seen that it doesn't hold up well.
Kudos to him. I will visit the store again with confidence, and I am changing my rating from the original rating of '1'.

Here is the original post from a few days ago:
I have made 2 purchases at DOT furniture over the past two years. The first was a cast metal bench (I would say cast iron but although that's what it looks like, I'm not sure). I bought it on clearance for about $60 and it has held up fine so far.

In contrast, I spent over $1200 on a teak table with 10 chairs. It was delivered to me in the fall, and I stored it on a concrete deck covered in tarps over the winter. I stored the chairs wrapped in their original plastic in my shed over the winter. By the time I opened up the set for use in the spring, there was already damage. The wood on the table was warped, resulting in an uneven surface. On some parts of the chairs you could see that the original wood chosen for the piece had unsightly knots and other damage-- why would they deliberately use a weaker piece of wood in the construction of outdoor furniture. By the way, the set was perfect in the showroom. There were two additional chairs that were part of the set but in the back of the store which I did not inspect.
I have oiled the set for preservation and beauty, because it lost color right away. Isn't teak supposed to never warp? That's whenI found out that there are different grades of teak. Clearly this was not the highest.
The warping of the wood has also affected our ability to take advantage of the extendable nature of the table. The parts are very hard to pull apart and fit together again.
As a last straw, my 35-lb daughter was sitting on one of the chairs yesterday when she announced 'look, the chair broke!' I couldn't believe it. A piece had actually broken right out of the seat of the chair!
I intend to bring the chair back to the store today and see what they will do for me. I will update after.
