moving company

The communication with the dispatcher and the van driver was very good. All furniture and other items were wrapped well. The driver and helpers showed up at the time we agreed to. There was not breakage or damage. One improvement could be that the movers said a queen box spring and mattress could not be moved to the top floor. They could have removed a banister and chose not to. I managed to move it with the help of my neighbours.

Moved from ontario to alberta

The company was great from begining to end. Mark was very personalble & friendly when it came to the quote and then confirming the job. He was professional and very dilegent. I called around to alot of different companies and got alot of quotes, Great Canadian Van lines was by far the best and they were great to deal with. Our belongings arrived within the 2 week time frame given. The two gentleman (can't remember thier names) that moved our furniture in were outstanding they wouldn't let us do a thing i basically pointed to where stuff was to go. They were very professional and super friendly. All of our items arrived in one piece except for one very cheap book case, which they apologized for and offered to pay for a new one. I was EXTREMLEY satisfied with the company and would recommend them in a heart beat.

move household from Vancouver to Vancouver Island

I had to organize our move from Europe, while on vacation. I was extremely impressed with the web page that made the job of estimating weight an easy task. I had to do all communications through e-mail, I was impressed with the professionalism shown and the understanding of how difficult the task was, long distance. The move was on-time, on budget and painless. Thank-you the Canadian Van LInes team, you did a great job.

Moving from Ontario to BC

It was very important to have the movers on site in Ontario due to a very small allotted moving time that was dictated by my Grandmother's apartment. Great Canadian Van Lines was over 2 hours late even after several phone calls to find out where they were. I had made prior arrangements with them and had specifically asked several times that they be ontime or a bit early - that of course didn't happen and i looked irresponsible to my family that was there relying on me.

However, despite being very late, the movers that showed up were very professional and worked efficiently. When the furniture arrived in BC, the movers were again professional and efficient.

Overall i am satisfied, but when i spoke with the boss in Ontario, no compensation was offered and that was disappointing.

Move from Winnipeg to Vancouver

Great Canadian Van Lines moved my stuff from Vancouver to Winnipeg.

They were fine in person: Polite, clean, careful.

However, they were 3 days late coming in. They told me they'd show up between the 1st and 7th of September but didn't show up until the 10th. This was extremely aggravating because they gave me no notice they were going to be late and it took tonnes of work to try to get someone on the phone to tell me what was going on with my stuff. When I finally did, they told me they'd only be a day late, and then on the day I got a call telling me that it would an extra two days.

I had to stay on a friends couch (since I had no bed) while I waited. I would have got a hotel, but I couldn't get a hold of anyone to find out if that would have been covered. When I asked them for a reimbursement for my trouble they tried to charge me extra for carrying my stuff up 3 floors (which I had already made clear when we worked out the cost).

After a lot of awkward haggling with the driver I had 10% taken off my total bill (which was less than what hotels would have cost me).

Would I use them again? Maybe... the price was right from the start. I would need assurances that my items would arrive on time with better reimbursement if not.

What could this company do to improve their services?
Be on time. Don't have dishonest charges that you have to argue with driver about.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Make sure that you get, in writing, exactly what they're charging for in advance (otherwise I would have been charged more) and what happens if they're late. Also, make sure they see the condition of expensive items in advance because the issuance will cover it only if the condition is documented.

Company Response

Hi Nick,

Sometimes delays do occur in the transportaion industry and our dispatch and driver should have advised you of this delay. We do however have a late delivery compensation program that we offer to any clients that have been delivered late. Please contact us at 1800 665 0055 if you have not yet received your compensation. We will be happy to pull your file and confirm this for you.

Best Regards
GCVL Management

I would just like to say a very big "thank you" for moving us from Toronto to Nanaimo this February. It's quite a daunting task finding a mover because for every one good story, you hear 20 bad ones. Everyone we dealt with at Great Canadian was friendly, courteous and professional. A special "thank you" to Steve Ellis in Markham, Kevin Ingram in Dispatch and most of all Wade and everyone who helped him with the physical move. I will definitely recommend you any time.

Just a quick note to say thank you for your excellent service, my items all
arrived in Toronto on time and in perfect condition. Still busy getting settled in, however I have already referred a friend of mine in Calgary to your company, he will be calling/emailing you to get a contact who can provide the same professional service that you guys did.

Keep up the excellent work!

Thanks for staying in touch! Your company is THE BEST, and not just among movers. You should be the template new businesses study before they open their doors. Your customer service is excellent and consistent among every employee I dealt with. I was able to speak to a human whenever I called and when I did, they were able to access my file instantly and answer my questions. If I emailed, I was replied to promptly. The fellows who actually moved me were professional, careful and ON TIME!! They hadn't worked as a team long either but you wouldn't have known it. I recommend you every chance I get and would rebook with you, no question.

Whatever you're doing, keep it up because some of us know and appreciate the difference between fair and fabulous!!

Cheers and a belated Happy New Year!

Thanks for your letter of July 22. I am glad I chose your company for our move: your rates were reasonable, your service efficient and prompt, and your personnel (especially Jerry, the truck driver) friendly and competent. Overall, GCVL eased a lot of our stress inevitable in such big moves.

I will recommend you unhesitatingly to my friends, and would myself choose you for any future moves.
