Gable Roofing

The roofing on top of the garage was changed by competent and courteous workers. The work is well done at a very reasonable price. It included the removal of platforms and railings and putting them back in place after the roofing was changed. It also included changing the shingles on the mansard roof on the side of the garage. The place was left with all rubish removed. The workers responded well to our questions and the points we raised about what needd to be done.

Gable Roofing did our roof after only 10 days notice, which I was very impressed by, at a very busy time of year. The crew worked quickly in horrible weather conditions and with four layers of old shingles to remove. They were also very careful about not damaging our next door neighbours' siding by covering it up with a tarp. When a nail popped out and left a shingle loose a few days after the job was completed, they came back to fix it promptly and did not expect payment until all was perfect. We now have a great looking roof. Thanks!

My flat roof job was not an easy one. My neighbour wasn't interested in replacing his roof, but I didn't want his equally lousy roof to undermine any work I paid for. I had frost-ruined brick along the parapet wall and two crumbling chimneys which needed to be replaced by masons. My insulation was nil.

This is a situation where you want to pay for experience. Company head Mike had a working relationship with my masons, Quality Restorations, so they were willing to talk to each other about what sort of brick was needed to fit with the roofing project. Adjustments had to made during the project, and the two companies interacted as true professionals.

When it came to the insulation, Mike's original solution to add 2" ISO boards proved to not be the ideal one. Once the crew had the roof boards off, it turned out that the ceiling had no insulation at all. Mike had the knowledge to adjust his plan. His crew filled the house rafters with top-of-the-line R-31 fiberglass bats.

They left the job site clean, as well. Michelle the receptionist was always quick in getting my questions answered. The company provided a photo log of the entire job as well for my scrutiny. Gable are proud of their work.

I have worked with contractors over the past six months who expect me to do all the running around for them and have answers to questions that I, as a non-professional, shouldn't be consulted on. Hiring a contractor who has his own experienced crew, can work with other companies and has the knowledge to adjust quoted was such a relief.

I got to see first hand what my job could have been like with another company. My neighbours across the alley had hired a different roofing company, Shaddai Roofing, who did their roof at the same time as Gable. This crew left the entire neighbourhood covered with tar paper. Gable's crew took photographs of Shaddai's crew working in case they (and by extension, I) was blamed for trashing my neighbours' gardens.

My previous roof was done by Wilkens Contracting and they had done a fine job. When Wilkens left the roofing business, Mike, who had worked for them, started Gable Roofing and looked after the warranty work for Wilkens' customers. We were pleased with the repairs that were done under warranty and then had Gable do some eavestrough work. Recently, when there was a leak into our house after a heavy rain, I called Gable and the inspection by David suggested that the old shingles had to be removed and a new set of shingles, flashings, and underlayer needed to be put in place (after 13 years). I had a much lower estimate from another roofer who was working on my neighbor's house. I discussed it with Mike and we came to an agreement to do it at a somewhat lower cost with a few modifications. Since I had been satisfied with Gable's long-term service, I decided the extra cost was worth it. They did a very careful and prompt preparation and completed the job very quickly and cleanly. My neighbor's roofer also did a fine job. I am satisfied that should any problems arise, Gable will be there and will do the repairs. One special thing is that Mike is excellent at communicating by email, giving clear details about the job. He shows a very professional interest in the work, which I find reassuring and unusual. As well, his office person, Michelle, is courteous and helpful too and they can be reached very easily.

I trusted Gable Roofing because they had such a high rating on Home Stars. They came and did something to my flat roof/chimney, but it did not stop the persistent leak into my basement every time it rained.
They came back and squeezed some foam into cracks in the chimney, and until now that stopped the leakes - but it seemed a very unprofessional approach.
Now, the rain is pouring down, and it's once again coming down the chimney and into my basement.
Can anyone give me a recommendation for an HONEST and COMPETENT roofer before I shoot myself?

Overall, I was pleased with Gable Roofing. While some people have mentioned that there are some communication issues and there were times when I would have to follow up with them after they had said they would call - I think the work they do is good quality. We'll have to see how the roof holds up - but I found the person I spoke to honest, informative, and friendly.

Our sadly aged pitched and flat roof suffered from years of neglect and too many hurried patch jobs, and we were beginning to suffer from water damage inside. Mike sent a crew up on the roof with a camera and sent extensive pictures of the disintigration on the roof so the whole board of directors could see the ongoing problems. (This helped for a speedy decision) They did a quick tidy over of a potentially disastrous situation (hole!) then filed a great quote for the board to consider. Once decided on, the crew came quickly, and efficiently removed layers of flat roofing material, thick layers of tar dating back to the original roof. The crew worked tirelessly for two days, were sensitive to the neighbour's needs and cleaned up amazingly well after themselves.

I've availed myself of Mike's services for many years in my personal home and felt secure that he would come through just as well in this more challenging application. I can't say enough of the great job this company does and the integrity with which they conduct their business. They continue to impress.

I used Gable roofing to replace the roof on my house, porch and eaves. They provided a reasonable quote and were honest, they told me I don't have to complete some work for another 4-5 years!!!The crew came, worked hard and cleaned up extremely well. I would ( and have already) recommend them to friends and family.
One other small point - they return calls!!!!

Gable Roof replace all some of our roofs and we were happy with their service. When we had another section fixed we had problems. The job was done and a lrg puddle area was left. We have spent considerable time trying to get them to fix it.

Like many houses in Leslieville our house has both pitched and flat roofs. We have also had a continuous problem with leaking roofs where the water migrates into the house making the source difficult to locate. Over the past fifteen years we have had both flat roofs and one of the pitched roofs replaced at least two times each. And still the rain found its way inside. The latest damage was in the fall of '08 and caused about $ 2500.00 damage to one of the bedrooms.
This is where Gable Roofing entered the picture. Remember, we have already hired a number of "reputable" roofing companies over the years. And each new company was more incompetent than the last. Clearly we were not going to be easily impressed by any roofing company.
When the Gable guys showed up (exactly when they said they would, surely not an industry standard), they gave the damaged room and the roofs a rigourous inspection which included pointing out some the shoddy workmanship done by previous contractors. Everything they said made sense and showed their experience and they offered a couple of ways we could go about solving the problem. Within a day men from Gable had "tarped" the weak area to stop further damage and we were ready to sign a contract.
When the crew showed up (once again when they said they would .... who knew?) they were professional and courteous and had most of the job done that same day. They never stopped working all day long. The second day only required a couple of hours work and then it was over. The roof looked great, a small extra job was corrected without our asking it to be done, and we were left with a feeling that our roofing problems were a thing of the past. We have renovated our entire house and property over the years and rarely have we had such a positive experience with a contractor.
