Beware of this company. It started with a nice feel to buy in “Canada” from a company that employs Canadians. However the relationship the company had with our architect did not feel right for several reasons, like we (the client) were on the outside. This is where the tension started. Once the architect quit our project (under dubious circumstances), things got worse with ArtCraft.
My first clue should have been the build-quality in the showroom.
I was told several things by the lead designer, Tom Ellis which proved to be not true.
“Don’t worry, I can deliver your kitchen within this budget.”
“Don’t worry, I am generous with my accessories”
A “retainer” is required.
After repeated and laborious efforts to get drawings and revised pricing, a revision came back with more than 25% increase in the original quote. The quote which was used to take our retainer. The new pricing included an added $1000 for accessories which were promised for free. After some haggling and using the weight of our Architect, he “discounted’ the price but it was still more than the original.
The biggest problem was that the designer failed to listen to our needs and wants. It was the classic case of knowing better than the client how we want to use our kitchen. It felt like we had to fight repeatedly to get what we wanted.
We finally made the difficult decision to not deal with this company after considerable time, effort, and a $2500 retainer. I offered in good faith 50% of the retainer, which was more than fair. After the problem occurred the “retainer” magically became a “non-refundable” and I was dumped on the owner Daniel Trabuco, who did not have the decency to even respond to me. I have never received an invoice to justify them holding my retainer.
Everything I say here can be backed up with email evidence and I am not one to complain publicly. However, this company merits the effort. This company lacks class and honour and I strongly advise not to deal with them.
