Moving furniture

I've just got done with moving using Payless Movers. I've never had a problem with any other moving company, and I'm generally pretty understanding with movers, but this company was dishonest, rude, and was out to scam me. I have a one bedroom apartment, and the price they quoted me over the phone was 240 dollars. When they came over and looked at the place, they said it would actually be 273. I thought this was understandable. They seem to take their sweet time with the moving, lingering around the truck area. This made me suspicious, and as it turned out, I was right. When they got to my new apartment (only 5 mins away), they demanded 660 dollars, or else they would dump my furniture into "the yard". I asked them why it was so much higher than the price they estimated earlier, and they just replied "It is what it is, either pay me or I will dump your furniture". We had a verbal dispute, needless to say, however I never insulted them personally, I only commented on what I thought was unfair. Still, I was harassed into signing the contracts and gave them 300 cash with the rest on credit card (I only brought 300 because I didn't think it would go over that amount). It didn't make sense for them to charge me before they even knew how long it would take to unload the furniture (they gave a 6 hour estimate, which is ridiculous). Had I known that it was illegal for moving companies to hold your belongings hostage, then I would have called the police. The damage tally at the end was a broken lamp and a scratched up armchair. As they left, one of the movers said to me: "Have a f**** day".

Approximate cost of services:
$660.00
