Arlen Singer Handyman Services

We hired Arlen Singer to hang drywall in 2 rooms and 1 stairwell. He told us that he was good at finishing drywall, and that his bid was to get everything paint ready. Getting him to actually finish the job was like pulling teeth. He said he was "done" 3 or 4 times, and we had to take a lot of time to point out all the areas that were not done.

In the end, and about a month behind schedule, we paid him the balance because it was just too exhausting to go on like that, and we were sick of the arguments. Numerous problems remain:

-- Most of the sure corners are either coming out, bubbling up, sanded down so much that they're splitting in the corner, torn up paper, not cut long enough, etc. and will have to be re-done...

-- He told us that he could plaster over the walls in the living room, and they'd look as good as drywall, but they still have lots of ridges left, big lumps, glass tape sticking out, etc...

-- The spaces around all the windows and doors are either not done, or have caked on plaster which was not finished at all

-- He kept buying 1 gallon buckets of joint compound, instead of the 5 gallons, as requested, and kept sanding most of it away, tearing up the paper on the drywall and sure corners, with his power sander. Then he charged us for all the extra materials.

-- Left broken glass on the floor, which I didn't notice, as it was covered with plaster dust

-- We also had Arlen fix a portion of the wooden fence that was leaning, and several hundred dollars later, it's still leaning, because for some reason Arlen cut off big chunks from the posts, before putting them into the ground. Only now it looks funny because the 2 sections were replaced with a new fence.

We are very frustrated to have spent so much money, and still ending up with so many problems to deal with, as we don't have more time or money to take care of them right now.
