10/10

waterproofing, basement reno, lowering floor, new drains, heat, walls, everything!

Our basement leaked! Of course . . . we bought a 100 year old house! But my office needed to be in the basement permanently.

I interviewed 10 different companies until we decided on the Steinbergs and their crew at Nu-Site! They are profession, reliable, courteous, honest, and they really make an effort to communicate with the client about every step of the process.

They took care of everything for us in two stages (1) waterproofing & (2) rebuilding. They did an OUTSTANDING job!

We decided on underpinning based on our house and needs and this crew provided a reliable budge and took care of everything, including the initial demo; digging out the basement floor; pulling out & replacing all drains; underpinning with delicate care; replacing the floor with proper insulation; waterproofing; installing proper heat (finally-heat in our basement!); providing guidance in the design for the new space (Geoff is an architect!). All this work was done on time and there were no hidden costs.

The second stage of our renovation was the rebuilding: from the initial framing of the walls to the final painting these guys were organized and did great work. We are so please with our basement. It looks and feels great: Warm and Dry. The work was done exactly as we wanted. It's also Beautiful and Comfortable.

I am super pleased with our choice of working with Nu Site. If you need waterproofing--these are the guys to call! If you have a bigger job, like we did--they can handle it! I highly recommend this company for any of your waterproofing or renovating needs. /ml

Approximate cost of services:
$120,000.00
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
We weighed heavily the dilema of underpinning vs. other waterproofing options. Underpinning was the more expensive option. But the investment was SO SO SO worth it. After a quick refinancing, we realizing that underpinning was the only way we could totally get our basement warm and dry. Today, there is no water or moisture coming up through the floors. We also installed underfloor heating. This added $7K to our budget and we questioned the value of this expense. From our opinion, this was a wise choice. I have no qualms about working, living -- being barefoot -- in the basement. Note: Nu-Site did not "talk us into this" or even try to sell us this underfloor heating system. . . In fact, they really sat down with us and wanted us to know about the added expense (it almost felt like they were trying to talk us out of it) and how the mechanism would work. I wanted this option, having done researching online. And I'm glad for my research and my additional investment. I'm a lot more comfortable. /ml
