I’ve just gone through hell and back with a contractor and pray no one else falls prey to this man. His name is Joel A – Easy Interior Design & Renovation. His smooth talking, easy nature and confidence sucked my wife and I in. We hired him because he promised to finish in 2 weeks, only requested $4500 down (with the rest on completion) and promised not to work other jobs while doing mine. Through well practices cons he managed to pull over 3/4 of our money from us (breaking promise 1). A 2 week job has now turned into 3 months with only 2/3rd complete (broken promise 2) . The work that is complete is deficient and has to be redone. He used the money I was giving him to fund another job which he also left 1/2 complete and managed to scam much of their money as well (broken promise 3). I was lucky to get more than 4 hours of work out of him in a day and lucky if he would show up for more than 2 days a week. He used every excuse in the world not to show up. He spent more energy delaying the job than working. I've spent far too many sleepless night wondering when or how the reno will be completed on budget and before winter. I've since learnt that there are many other victims' that he has prayed on with similar stories as mine. He’ll leave your reno half completed with garbage strew around your house, garage, backyard, etc. Nothing he has built is level, plumb or at right angles. The tile work has to be regrouted and doesn't slope to drain. The two doors he installed jamb in the frame and aren't plumb. Concrete block walls aren't straight or plumb and mortar joints have cracked. I have previous employers, home owners and subs contacting me looking for missing tools, threatening to lien my house, demanding payment or just to vent about how much money he’s scammed from them. I terminated Joels contract and demanded he repay me the amount I've overpaid him. After weeks of persistence he did make good on half the debt by repaying me a little less than half the owed money. This is a start but doesn't make up for the anxiety, lack of sleep, additional money I've had to spend and self performed work that I'd incurred. Watch out for this guy. He’s a proffessional con artist and very, very good at it.6 of 6 people found this review helpful.
