When I made my first contact to another highly rated Homestars company for my landscaping project, I was disappointed that the fellow came to look at the project, said that he would get back to me with an estimate within the week -- and then I never heard from him again. Over 6 weeks later, no estimate and not even a phone call to let me know that they did not want the job. In the meanwhile, somewhat miffed with this last experience, we contacted Keith from Land Effects. And frankly, I must sincerely thank the first company because if it wasn't for them I would never have had the good fortune to meet Keith. He listened carefully to my needs, was very knowledgeable and had wonderful creative design ideas. We needed a retaining wall, but I also wanted a little garden oasis. You can see from the pictures before and after how gorgeous this space is now, my gosh the transformation is amazing. And they are so versatile too - doing everything - from a gate, a fence, original lattice, a retaining wall, creative interlocking, natural stone steps to selecting and planting trees. We needed it all and they did it all! His team worked diligently and efficiently, right on schedule and right on budget too. Keith was very responsive to my needs, returning phone calls promptly, and keeping me posted every step of the way with e-mails and phone calls. I smile and feel so good every time I see my little garden sanctuary - also thinking of what a great experience this was working with Keith and Land Effects. A review for Culzac Heating & Air Conditioning

Recently, my very elderly parents (living on their own with a caregiver)had air conditioner problems - in the scorching heat. On their own, they got two quotes - of 3,000.00 and 4,500.00 to fix the problem. They requested my help, which as a physician and daughter, I tried quickly to do, as their health was fading with each passing day. So I went to Home Stars. Now of note, out of my 7 phone calls to Home Stars companies explaining the problem, only 3 ever called me back. But Dwayne from Culzac called me back right away, even on a Sunday evening. I found him to be very conscientious, kind, caring, knowledgeable,and was able to go to them the very next morning. When there he was very systematic and methodical in his work to find the problem, and fixed it promptly. My parents were so impressed with how efficiently he worked, and how empathically and respectfully he treated them. And the total to fix the air conditioner? It was 197.00 - WOW. The other two companies were clearly taking these vulnerable elderly folks to the cleaners, which I find quite disgusting. But, as a physician I know from patients the alarming frequency in which this happens, especially with the elderly. So I tell everybody this story not so much to tell about how my parents were almost scammed, but to tell all of you about how special Dwayne from Culzac was. Dwayne, your honesty, integrity, and of course your extremely knowledgeable, efficient and excellent work that you did was amazing - you are truly a gem in the industry. We don't know how to thank you enough. I have absolutely no hesitation in giving you my very highest recommendation.

A review for Soft Surfaces

I have had a lot of different carpet cleaners over the years, but without a doubt, soft surfaces has been the best ever. I was impressed with how thorough and careful they were, did not hurry in and hurry out like most others I have had. Fred took the time to explain things, discussed various ideas. I had a question about whether our hall tiles needed their tile and grout cleaning, and was amazed when Fred said that not really, the grout line was very small and we probably would not notice a huge difference after spending the money, so save the money. Wow! Such honesty and integrity I do not see very often. Most others would have said sure, clean them, I'll take your money, no problem. And the results of the carpet and upholstery cleaning that they did was really nice, work well done. In summary my entire experience dealing with Soft Surfaces was so exceptional, I give them my highest recommendation.

I was so impressed with Nick and his team. I felt that he really listened to my concerns and preferences, was a great communicator, and was really knowledgeable. I made the mistake of buying a cabinet for the bathroom before putting up the wall tiles, and would you know it, the bathroom cabinet was too big, no room for wall tiles! Nick was really creative, figured out how to tile around the cabinet, in a way that looks so amazing! Also I don't think that any of the walls in our 40 year old house were straight (affectionately called the crooked house...) but Nick and his crew figured out how to make it work beautifully. Despite all of the challenges, Nick was always so pleasant, thinking of ways to make this work, checking with me to see if I liked this, or if I was happy with that... What a breath of fresh air working with them was for me. The job was done so efficiently too, in only 8 working days our bathroom was done, and looks so professionally and beautifully done, that I find myself always walking by to sneak another peak at it! Nick, what a pleasure it was dealing with all of you, thank you so much. I give all of you my highest recommendation.

I found myself recently in a terrible situation. Some contractors had been adding insulation to an outside wall of our house, and much to my horror, had done very bad electrical work to finish the job (even if they were not electricians!). When I discovered what happened and found open live wires I was very concerned, and tried to find an electrician urgently. Jerry from ElectroPro really came through for me. He recognized the urgency of my situation and came over promptly. He was excellent. A great communicator, really listened, and I loved how he "thought out loud" so to speak so I knew what he was thinking, and what options he was considering. His work was superb. As well,I found him to be a very sincere person with the utmost of integrity and caring. Jerry, I can't thank you enough. You have my business.

Would you know it, on a holiday Monday, our garage door decides not to open. So we called Tim from Speedy Overhead door services after looking at the Homestars website. He was here pronto this very afternoon within half an hour! He was not only prompt and efficient - turned out to be our torsion springs that needed replacing,which he did right away - but also he was very knowledgeable, friendly, and a pleasure to deal with. A review for Mega City Roofing Inc

Last year, Mega City did three of our roofs, and we were really impressed. This year, we have another problem -- HUGE scary icicles and ice damming. So I call Tom again, and they came pronto over here and did an excellent job of safely removing the huge ice blocks from the roof - and even during a snowstorm! But then Tom went through great lengths trying to help diagnose exactly what the problem was that caused this in the first place and trying to figure out the most economical way to deal with this problem, looking at the attic, the insulation, the venting, the drainage, everything that he could think of. He promptly got back to me on all phone calls, and was more that happy to answer all questions, and to teach me as well! I am really happy with the cleaning work that David does - he is so conscientious and trustworthy - and so creative in how he figures out even the most perplexing problems! I have noticed how he truly takes pride in the work he does, which is a quality that I don't see too much of in the service/retail world these days. We had several doors and windows installed by Encore, and I must say they(both the doors and the people!)are really impressive. Dave is very sincere and professional with a high level of integrity, rarely seen in companies these days. If something wasn't quite right, he jumped on it so fast and kept on it until it was rectified to my satisfaction. From a friend (who is a Mike Holmes fanatic and into renovating) who watched George install them, I got a play-by-play commentary on how excellent George was, and did everything exactly how it should be done. I am very impressed with Mega City Roofing. We had both a shingled roof and a flat roof replaced. The team was always prompt, efficient, respectful, and a delight to work with.
