Moving and Delivery

9.8

A review for Your Friend With A Cube Van Inc.

Sep 12, 2006

Able to do small moves and deliveries as well as entire house and apartment moves. I found their rates more than competitive and their service very good. They were able to charge me by the hour for a small move and moved other furniture in my house including disassembly and assembly of furniture. Personable and friendly movers.

dishwasher repair and dryer repair

10

A review for Brannan's Appliance Repair Ltd.

Nov 15, 2006

First it was the dishwasher, next week the dryer started sparking. So Steve was at our house twice in one week. Both times I called and he returned my call quickly and was able to be at the house within a day or two. Both times he showed up on time within the times scheduled. Repairs we done quickly and efficiently, with an estimate before he started the repair. He tidied up not only the area around the applianced when he was finished but the appliances themselves. Terrific, friendly service - with lots of information sharing! Thanks, Steve!

Home Fashions and Custons Designs in Wool Felt

10

A review for Felt

Nov 15, 2005

Gorgeous clean modern designs in an age old industrial fabric. See the most recent review: Canadian Architect, September 2005 "Checking In - The Gladstone Hotel Invites the Art and Design Community to Give it more than a Facelift" by Leslie Jen Kathryn Walter's virtuosity in the properties of felt is expressed in an entire wall composed of an ordered grid of highly tactile grey felt semi-spherical bubble tiles, enhanced by the presence of a felt-covered chair and felt lamps casting diffuse light throughout the room. This soft and inviting absorptive environment creates a cozy womb-like capsule, not unlike an elegantly padded cell.

Kitchen Renovation

2.5

A review for Albany Home Improvements

Oct 18, 2005

OK - First the contractor - Michael Cooke is not a contractor. He did not communicate with the cabinetry people and even though given a plan did not follow it. List of issues: Took down a wall - put it back up and the important corner where the cabinetry was to go was not square. He was asked to move a heating duct and vent and "forgot" to put the vent back in - this cost us more time and money and the vent can no longer be in the wall or use the original cast iron wall cover. The trim work was put on without being sanded - it was very rough. A shelf on the pass through was not level and he told me it would cost me $1000 to fix it - even though it was his mistake. Then in the next hour he gave me a bill for at least 30 percent more than the original estimate including a bogus PST claim. At this point the work was still not finished. This was one month after I asked for an accounting of the budget. We renegotiated the contract including an incentive for finishing the work early and a disincentive for finishing late - even though he signed this contract he finished late, was rude and did shoddy finishing work. We finally agreed he was "finished" to get him out of the house. It cost us more money to finish his work properly. We were told the work would take 4-6 weeks. It took over 3 months. I am sure there are worse contractors out there but as far as I am concerned this was a very frustrating experience.

marmoleum purchase and installation

9.8

A review for Downtown Flooring Company Ltd.

Jan 15, 2006

I looked for the flooring at a number of places, the prices were better. The selection was good. The service however was excellent, we felt that they tried very hard to get the flooring to us at the time we needed to have it and that they cared. They even came to inspect the work that was done on the subfloor becuase we were concerned that it was inadequate. The installation was very good and we lov the floor. Marmoleum rocks.

Cabinetry

A review for Inova Diversified Inc

Dec 02, 2005

What a disappointing experience. We're still waiting for shelves for one cabinet. We had them install the cabinets and honestly they were crooked, the corner countertop or cabinet had mismatched angles and if I hadn't noticed it and pointed it out they would have walked away with the work done shoddily. I was pushed for payment even though the work was not completed and although I've called repeatedly I still have not received shelves that we paid for and were promised 4 months ago. The cabinet doors don't look like they are going to last - they are already chipped from normal wear. Kitchen cabinets provided by Inova. It is now 8 months since the cabinets were installed - the laminate is peeling off the doors and becoming discoloured. The cabinets will not stand up to normal kitchen wear. We were told that the colour of the cabinets were going to deepen to the colour that we had chosen and were shown. No. They won't - they are not the wood laminate that were were shown - they are a diiferent type of wood.

Fabric Retailer

A review for Designer Fabrics

Nov 28, 2005

The best Fabric store in the city - specializing in imported brocades. I've been shopping there for years and have always had to restrain myself. They have cutain rods, accessories, sheers, fabulous wools and silks. Serious shopping for designers. hey rent out fabric samples to take home to decide whether the colour works. Love it!
