We hired Skylights Unlimited in 2012 to replace old dome skylights and were extremely happy with their work. We recently had a new roof installed over the room where our skylights are. Long story made short... shortly after installation, the new roof began to leak around one of the skylights, the roofer (a supposedly reputable company) told us we needed a new flashing kit and he could repair it, then stopped returning my calls. I finally called Denis and asked him to come out and take a look. Denis came over the next day and advised that he could fix the problem. Two weeks later Ed was scheduled to come and do the repair. Ed spent four hours on our roof removing the shingles and completely dismantling the skylight and reinstalling it and the shingles. The end result is that our roof no longer leaks. Once again, it was Denis and Skylights Unlimited to the rescue! We are incredibly pleased with the work that they have done for us. I would not hesitate to recommend this company.

Mr. Roof Repair did terrible job replacing our roof, came out twice for unsuccessful repairs to the original job, and then became totally unresponsive. We hired Mr. Roof Repair to replace a roof with a low pitch that needed a flat roof treatment. After getting several quotes and doing our due diligence, we hired Mr. Roof Repair. Our initial dealing with them was very favourable, until our brand-new roof sprung a significant leak. The old roof, as worn out as it was, never once leaked. Twice, Mr. Roof Repair sent a crew over to repair our leaky roof. Twice the leak was not fixed. After several no-show appointments (which I took time off work to be home for), and weeks of our calls and emails not being returned, I finally connected with the owner, Steve. Steve said all the right things. He came over to examine the roof as well as the damage the leak did to the inside of the house. He promised us that he would look after us and that he would figure out and repair the issue. We thought we were in good hands. After weeks of following up with him, he finally told us that the problem was the flashing around our skylight and that he would provide the labour but we had to pay for a new flashing kit. I was not happy about giving him more money, but we needed the leaking to stop so we agreed. And then we never heard from him again. Luckily we had not actually paid him any additional money. During all of this, we found ourselves in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, so I appreciate that there may have been other factors at play. But had there not been so much wasted time following up with Steve and Mr. Roof Repair, the problem should have been resolved long before the pandemic became an issue. We continued to follow-up with no response. Eventually, we had no choice but to hire another company and pay someone else to do the roof repair. I cannot recommend this company. In our experience, their work is shoddy and they don’t stand behind it. The owner said all the right things, but when it came time to actually fix the problem, he became unresponsive and we were forced to hire someone else at our own additional cost. At the time of writing this, it has been months since I have heard from Steve or anyone at this company.

Hi Esther,
It’s indeed unfortunate that it has come to this.
There is a lot that has transpired since the beginning of the year that you are unaware of, including a company-wide restructure.
We’ve terminated many of the people directly responsible for your repairs.
We’ve spent the better part of the last 6 mths rebuilding and resolving issues left over from the previous management team and their technicians, who proved to perform well below our standards.
No company is perfect, and our success is directly connected to the technicians we employ as well as the management team and their ability to oversee.
Both of which have now been completely overhauled.
The team we have in place is a vast improvement, and we will continue to provide the top tier workmanship and customer care our clients have come to expect from us.

We contacted Home Appliance Repair because they were recommended by the manufacturer of our Range Hood which needed repairing. I checked them out on HomeStars and most customers seemed happy with them. We had two issues with the range hood, one was the motor vibrating and the second was a problem with the light fixture that made it so we could not change the bulbs. The technician came to the house and spent quite a bit of time checking the motor and the fixtures. He was also not able to change the bulbs. We were told that he would get us a quote for a new motor and would contact the manufacturer about the light fixtures. After a week, I didn’t hear back from them so I called Joanne to follow-up. I was told that she would look into what was going on with the repair and call me back. She didn’t call. I followed-up with her the following week and then once a week for the next three. I always received the same response; “Let me look into what’s going on and I’ll get back to you”. No one ever got back to me. After three weeks someone called to ask what country our hood was made in. I provided the information and then…nothing. After five weeks, someone finally called with the cost of replacing the motor. When I asked about the light fixtures, she didn’t know anything about them. Five weeks to provide a quote for a partial repair! I told her to close the file, that we would not be using their services again. Perhaps this company is good for easy and immediate repairs. Since the light fixtures appeared to be a problem (even the manufacturer admitted that to me), perhaps the repair was too much for them and they just didn’t want to be bothered. Once the technician came out the house and I paid for the service call, the service ended there. Although the technician tried really hard to figure out the problem with the light fixtures, based on my experience I would not contact them again.

One of our skylights started streaming water into our sunroom during a storm. We called Skylights Unlimited and I spoke to Denis. As we don't live very far from their office, Denis came over and we had a quote that same day. Denis explained that our old skylights were acrylic and both needed to be replaced because they had cracks in them. My husband and I decided to hire them to replace both skylights. We were told that it would take about four weeks. Denis told us that if we continued to have problems with leaking, he would try to do a temporary fix for us until the new skylights were ready. We received a call only 1.5 weeks later that our skylights were in and could be installed the next day if we were available. My husband took the day off work and our skylights were installed 2.5 weeks earlier than expected! The installers were very nice and did a great job installing and cleaning up afterwards. After the installation, I had a question and Denis took the time to answer my question and make sure that I was satisfied, even after the job was done and paid for. I highly recommend this company.

The Door Doctor did a great job installing our new garage door and opener. We had purchased the opening several years prior, on sale, and thought that we would install it ourselves but just never got around to it. They were happy to insall the opener that we purchased and were very reasonable about the price. There was never any pressure to purchase an opener from them or upgrade. In addition, our garage had an overhead shelf. In order to make room for the track, the crew had cut a strip out of the shelf and then reinforce each side to keep the shelf stable. There was no extra charge for the additional time that this took or the material used to reinforce the shelves. If I had one complaint it would be that the door took two weeks longer to deliver than originally stated. But that was due to a delay by the manufacturer and not the fault of the Door Doctor.

We purchased a house with an apple tree in the back yard. It was obvious that the tree had not been pruned in many, many years. Davey was able to come and look at the tree while we were at work and leave us a quote. They also added removing some large branches from a neighbour's dead tree that were hanging over our yard. I had a few questions which they did a great job answering and explaining. They came within a week of me calling to confirm that they were hired and did such a great job cleaning up that we didn't even have to rake the leaves from our backyard that week.

After pricing a few places for a new kitchen, we ended up at Logart. Manny came over to view our space and take measurements and then provided us with a beautiful design that worked around several problems such as bulkheads. He was also able to provide us with a great deal on granite that only cost us a few hundred dollars more than the laminate counter-top that we priced at Home Depot. We never thought that granite was in our budget, but thanks to Logart it was. The kitchen was ready for delivery exactly when promised. My only complaint about Logart was that installer they provided was obviously inexperienced. There was a more experienced guy that showed up on occasion when he needed help, but mostly he was there alone and spent a lot of time on the phone asking someone how to do things. We would have been better off having our own contractor do the installation. But in the end, the kitchen looks beautiful and everyone who comes to our house compliments us on it. About 18 months after the kitchen was installed, the cabinet door beside the dishwasher began to peel from the steam. I called Gerry and the door was repaired and hanging back in our kitchen in only a week...no charge. It has now been three years and my dream kitchen still looks beautiful.

We bought a house with a badly neglected garden. After three years of the weeds getting the better of us, we decided it was time to call in the professionals. I chose Stonehouse Property Care after reading all the great reviews here on Homestars. I was not disappointed. Andrew was very good to deal with and answered all my questions before I agreed to his service, and I never felt pressured. The crew of three men showed up exactly when they said they would! They walked through the garden with us to discuss what our needs were and what they would do. Then we left for work and left the crew to do their job. We came home from work eight hours later to an impecably clean garden. The transformation was unbelievable! In three years of trying to get a handle on things we could never have accomplished what they did in just one day. We now feel like we are finally winning the weed war and can start moving forward with our landscaping plans. No doubt that Andrew and his team will play a part in those plans when we're ready. I highly recommend this company.
