Ever since I discovered Home Stars I've used companies on here exclusively. For this project however, I didn't have luck finding people that could take on this last minute job with a turn around time of just a few days. After receiving 4 estimates from handymen that I found on Craigslist etc, we decided to go ahead with Tom. He is exactly the kind of handyman that you want to hire - he is a problem-solver and a do-er. For our project, he came up with creative and practical solutions that achieved what we wanted, and looked better than what we expected. He delivered on-time and on-budget, and even though he was not the cheapest quote we found, the value he delivered was definitely on-point. I am glad that Tom tis now on Homestars because us homeowners need to have a trustworthy handyman in our phone books!

Before Morningstar came to fix my old manual roll-up garage door, the door was very loud and difficult to open/shut, the tracks were bent out of shape, the rollers were falling off, and the lock rarely engaged. Subsequently, one hard push and the spool of cable fell out along with snapped cable - so the door stopped working altogether. Danny came to fix it next day, and within 45 minutes he replaced the track and the cable, adjusted the rollers and lock, and oiled up everything. I can now literally slide up my garage door with 1 finger. Danny is very skilled, knowledgeable, and makes it his responsibility to leave you with a door that functions the best it could. Highly recommended! We will be calling him when we install the automatic opener.

Elvis is the roof-whisperer. I had a mystery leak coming in from the roof (3 years old), and after unsuccessfully repairing it myself with some can-of-spray-of-sorts, I read through the reviews on Homestars and decided to call Elvis. Since the roof is pretty close to new, and no visible evidence of a probable cause, Elvis patiently assessed the area and made a professional guesstimate on the issue. Sure enough, after he carefully peeled back some shingles in the valley area, the nails were found rusty (evidence of water coming through). He thoroughly explained the cause to me, provided a solution, and repaired it immediately with materials he had on hand. He even provided a 5 year warranty on the repair! Happy to report that we are leak-free ever since. He is like the Mike Holmes of roofs, except that he can "do it right" with a realistic, affordable solution, rather than tear down your whole roof. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

We had 9 or 10 contractors provide quotes on a bathroom remodel of a rental unit in our house, and addition of laundry room. Joe of Summit Renovations came recommended by my electrician, and despite his quote coming in higher we chose Joe for this job -- he brings in certified and qualified trades (as opposed to a lot of other jack-of-all-trades contractors who do everything and produce less than satisfactory results). He also assured that the work would be completed within our strict 2 week window, and that there would be no "hidden costs" beyond the quote, which I have encountered much too often. Furthermore, he has worked with my electrician, who was working on my house at the same time as this reno - less headache for me! Joe was a great choice. He is fast and thorough - complete gut and frame in 2 days! He subsequently brought in a certified plumber, a tiler, and a drywall taper to complete the job (on time). I was working on a DIY kitchen reno at the same time, and Joe didn't hesitate to help me out, including demo, building a bulkhead and fixing a railing. Really great guy! There were a couple small issues after the job was completed, which Joe took care of without fuss. The only surprise was a lower shower pressure than before, which Joe's plumber Mario asserted was an issue with the new fixture itself and would cost an additional X amount to replace. Joe immediately offered to share half the cost, although we chose not to take up the offer because plumbing had already taken up a good portion of the budget, and by that time I was already beyond budget! I played with the fixture myself and got the pressure to a reasonable level. All in all, Joe is a solid guy that gets things done and on time and well. We are pleased and our new tenants are happy to have a great bathroom and laundry facility!

Outstanding - the quality of work, the customer service, the post-work follow up are all 10+++, and super nice people to boot! Without a doubt the best crew that has worked on my home (and we've had many). When we decided to tackle the remaining knob & tube of our century old home and all its wacky electrical issues, we brought in the 6 highest-reviewed electrical companies on Homestars. We chose Antonio of Java, not only because his pricing was fair and all reviews were excellent, he was also extremely thorough when inspecting the house for the quote - in fact (and surprisingly) he was the only electrician who cared enough to opened up my electrical panels and sub-panels! We had a very tight schedule to follow, and although the job took longer than expected, we were more than happy that Antonio took the time to DO IT RIGHT. When problems came up, he never passed the buck, or changed the pricing, or left it undone. For example, after all the electrical was updated, lights still flickered when my 1800 watt countertop oven was on, despite being plugged into a dedicated line. Antonio inspected the main line coming to the house and sure enough, it was pretty much fried and totally unsafe. He took it upon himself, above and beyond the quoted work - and up 3 stories on a ladder - to fix the really shotty job that some mickey mouse electrician did (of previous owner). No more flickering. The ESA inspector came through and we passed without issue. I can rest easy knowing that Java has made my house safer… and it looks so much better, too! The cherry on top: the crew are MASTERS at wire-fishing. Not only did they make only the smallest and absolutely necessary holes through my old plaster walls, they rough-patched every single hole they made. Antonio is a consummate professional and true to his word. And everyone at Java (Laureano, Junior, Pavel) are excellent, hardworking guys that went above and beyond. It is so rare to find such an upstanding crew and I would not even think of hiring any other electrician from here on.

I cannot rave enough about the exceptional job that The Moore Brothers delivered on the exterior painting of our house. If you only have a second to read this review: They are thorough, trustworthy, and absolutely awesome, hire them!!! If you want to hear about my experience in detail: Read on. Our project was particularly challenging because the paint on the brick and the metal fencing was peeling significantly - in big chunks as well as cracking patches. Furthermore, the house is a relatively tall Victorian on a downtown street - which means that the crew needed to work quite high up in not-much-of-a-yard. We decided on The Moore Brothers after receiving half a dozen quotes. To be honest I hadn't met Kevin in person when we hired MB - which is a testament to his professionalism because I am very cautious and err, anal when it comes to hiring trades. After only speaking with Kevin on the phone I trusted him to do the job right because he was thorough, honest and service-oriented. His quote outlined exactly what needed to be done, and how much each service cost... down to the gallons of paint. Due to the nature of exterior work, MB wasn't able to promise an exact date (weather etc), but I let Kevin know that my preference is earlier rather than later and I was pleasantly surprised when he delivered two weeks sooner. The job took 3 long days, 2 of which were during the sweltering heatwave. The job was also more labour-intensive than anticipated due to the original layers of cracking/peeling paint which needed to be prepped. The crew did not complain once - that is true professionalism. When I saw the finished work, all I could say was "My house looks freakin' amazing!" Honestly. Even my neighbours and passers-by commented on how fantastic a job they did. I give two big thumbs up to The Moore Brothers and I would not hesitate to recommend them to my in-laws and acquaintances alike. Thank you, Homestars, for helping me find the Moore Brothers!
