Rolltec installed a 16' X 8' black awning over our back deck last summer and it looks amazing. It also helps a lot to cool the adjacent room. They went over and above expectations for me to get a perfect fit. It was more important for them to provide the right solution than to make a few extra bucks, which I really appreciated. Order early! Wait time is significant (but what isn't these days?). I will say that they were perfectly accurate with their estimated time frame for installation. And it was worth the wait.

I was having a back yard awning installed, and needed two downspouts redirected so that the awning could extend the full width of the back wall. I contacted 3 of the top rated Toronto eavestrough companies on HomeStars. None of them were interested in helping me. I had to listen to a few mealy-mouthed excuses about needing too many elbows. One 10/10 rated company responded with this gem: "We’re going to pass. Good luck." Then I contacted Foxtrough. Jesse took the time to think about my request, and suggest an alternative solution that solved my issue, was prudent, and aesthetically pleasing. He also did all of the things we wish all contractors would do - he communicated clearly, showed up on time, did the job exactly as he said he would do, and sent a bill that matched his quote. What more could you ask for?

We had a couple of different spots of trouble in our damp downtown basement. I called Greg and he came promptly to assess the situation. There was one obvious problem on the floor, but also some other areas hidden out of sight that Gregg was able to suss out. We decided that the best course of action was to strip and clean the entire floor and about half of the basement walls. The crew, led by Yos, showed up on time. They were quick, efficient and very pleasant. Literally everything you hope for from a contractor. They set up a containment field around the entire basement. Then they dismantled, wrapped and carefully disposed of quite a lot of contaminated materials. Everything was cleaned from wall to wall, vacuumed, then re-painted with the appropriate paint. Throughout the process, they kept me informed of their progress, and I could see the work was top notch. Of course, face masks and PPE were always worn. The work took about 4 days in total, so I think the price was fair, and I'm very happy with the results. If I ever see mold again, I'd call them back.

We had a wallpapering job that was so small that we were worried no one would ever call us back - one single roll of (super expensive, designer) wallpaper in a very small bathroom. We found John on HomeStars and were impressed by his 10 star rating, so we got in touch. Much to our surprise, he wrote back right away and said he'd be happy to help. He came over to look at the job and quote. He showed up exactly when he said he would, and his price matched our budget. The job was booked for a day the following week. Again John showed up on time, and did a great job. Each time he was in our home, he was very pleasant and respectful. This is a big deal for us. We only want good, professional people in our home. Everyone who has seen his work has been amazed by how good a job he did. Highly recommended.

We called 4 different plumbers from Craigslist and HomeStars - 3 never called us back and the 4th made an appointment but didn't bother to show up. Finally, Sergio was recommended to us and we called. Very glad we did. Euclid Plumbing were able to come over at the last minute and help us out on a very small job that (clearly) a lot of plumbers weren't interested in. Euclid were courteous, reasonably priced, and went straight to work. I was very happy with them. As it turned out, I had to call them in again the next week due to a problem with our hot water tank. Again, they came right away and were in and out with minimal fuss. Great guys, highly recommended.

Metro Roofing replaced the flat roof on my downtown house in early 2006. I was always unsure of the quality of the job. My roof was replaced in the middle of the winter when daylight hours are very short. Before signing the contract, I asked if this would be an issue, and was told not to worry about it - there would be plenty of daylight hours in which to get the work done. To my surprise, when the work day came, the first guy didn't show up until after 10 AM. It was about 10:45 before the rest of the crew arrived and started work. 2 good daylight hours were lost. Sure enough, at about 4:30 PM when the sun was setting, I climbed the ladder and took a look at the roof - it was about half done. Joists were still exposed, and patches of the old roof were still attached. So, about half of my roof was built in complete darkness. I've always had a sinking feeling about that. And I was right. The roof has been leaking since day 1. The roofers weren't even the true disappointment. The sheet metal crew who capped the parapet wall are the real reason for the bad review. They came a few days after the roofing crew. My girlfriend was watching through the window as they were arriving, unloading and prepping the work. She was appalled to see one of them relieving himself on the tree in our yard. Not a good first impression. But they did their work and I never thought much about it. After the work was done and because of my concerns, I had a home inspector take a look at the roof. He was shocked that he was looking at a new roof. He noted several bare spots where the tar was exposed with no gravel protection, and that there were a few large areas of water ponding. He pointed out that there was no Gravel Stop at the edge and that over time, my eaves would fill with gravel (which they did). He also noted a lack of caulking on the parapet cap. Plus, since the site cleanup was done in the dark, my yard was a mess of gravel and bits of old roofing. I called Tony and asked that he come back to inspect the work for himself. He never did. He sent the foreman from his roofing crew who put down a bit more gravel and did a more thorough clean up. The parapet cap was constructed in several pieces, joined together with folded seams. None of the seams were caulked. I'm not sure if this is normal, but I am sure it contributed to its failure. I'm not a roofer, and I don't have access to the CRCA specifications, but my eyes and my common sense tell me that the fasteners they used to attach the sheet metal were too short. So about a year ago, there was a really windy day. And on that day, about half of my parapet cap came unfastened. Some of it fell back on to the roof, but a few pieces actually blew off and on to the ground. I don't need to tell you what a tragedy that would have been if someone had been passing by, or in the yard when a 4 foot long, sharp edged piece of 26-gauge sheet metal came flying down. We were lucky. The roof came with a 10 year warranty. So I emailed Metro Roofing to ask them to come and take a look at the damage and fix it. I got no response. A month later, I called Metro Roofing and left a detailed voice message. Again, I got no response. I called once again and left another voice mail, this time pretending to be a new customer. Finally someone called back and I got to explain the problem in person. I heard a lot of excuses about wind speeds and CRCA specs, but they said they would call back and arrange for an appointment to come and see the damage. They never called back. I called again, this time even offering to pay a service fee, and was again told that someone would call to make an appointment. AGain, big surprise - no call, no contact from them. I even went to their location in Ajax to see if I could talk to someone in person. It's an empty office. I should have known. I have contacted Metro Roofing six times over the course of a year to give them a chance to rectify this problem and they have pretty much ignored me. I'm left with no alternative but to post this review and warn people that METRO ROOFING DOES NOT HONOUR THEIR WARRANTY. I see a lot of 10 star reviews here, and I'm genuinely happy that some people have had a good experience. But a company or contractor has to be judged on how they handle problems, as well as the easy stuff. Metro Roofing failed to handle my problem. Even if it turned out that the work was done to spec, and that the roof would have failed anyway, it doesn't change the fact that no one from Metro Roofing ever came to inspect the work that I was initially unhappy with, and no one has ever come to look at the failure of the sheet metal work. Unacceptable.

The back wall of our downtown home had developed some "character" over its 80 odd years of service. Perhaps too much character. There was evidence of former attached porches, roofs, clothes lines and about six different kinds of (failed) mortar repairs. Victorian Restoration was recommended to me by another contractor. When I called, Bill was able to quickly come over and assess the damage and what was needed to fix it. His quote was reasonable and we set a date. The guys showed up on schedule and got to work. The restored wall is stunning. Tar and paint that had been there for decades were gone. The various mix and match repair materials used over the years were gone, replaced by proper color matched mortar. Bill also kindly pointed out some other areas of concern on the outside of my house and did what he could to help fix them. Smart guys. Straightforward advice. Reasonable price. Good work. Pretty much everything you'd hope for in a contractor.

When we thought we saw mold in our basement, I snapped a picture with my phone and sent it to Gregg at mold.ca. The response was very prompt, but an official diagnosis couldn't be made without an inspection. The guys showed up exactly on schedule (a pleasant surprise for any Toronto home owner), completed the inspection, confirming our suspicion. We received their quote within the promised 48 hour period (the rate was very reasonable) and scheduled the work. Once again, the guys arrived at exactly the time promised. They were very respectful of our home and took great care to protect our floors. After the work was complete, they placed everything back as they found it and took the time to explain what they had done, and what to watch for in the future. Other than the mold being gone, it was like they had never been there because everything was as it was before. If you suspect mold, don't hesitate to call mold.ca. We, and our dogs breathe much easier!
