Paint used for the staircase railing/spindles was not the right type for such a high-wear area (Sherwin William rep later confirmed my suspicion). After 2 months you could use finger nail on a spindle and paint easily came off. At this point it should be fully cured. __________________________________________________________ Update 3/1/23 - Painting company re-visited house and re-painted staircase railing/spindles with a different kind of paint. It has been several months since that time and results are much better (paint coating is much more durable and damage resistant). Issue appears to be resolved.

Company Response

For Staircases we have historically used Oil based Products: Emerald Urethane. We were introduced to a zero VOC product by our paint company, Sherwin Williams, for staircases. As we have our customers' long-term health in mind, we are always very keen on using VOC free products. At this time all of our products used for walls, trims, and ceilings are ZERO VOC certified. We used the new product for Brad: unfortunately, the new product did not provide the desired adhesion; although, it seemed to perform well in our internal trials.

We typically wait for four weeks after painting for the product to cure fully. Upon subsequent examination, with our Sherwin Williams paint rep, we were not satisfied with the final result and decided to repaint the staircase with our traditional product.

Our traditional product has held well and Brad is happy: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

We are very pleased with the basement renovation Joe and his team completed for us. Simply put...it was a great experience. Only took 5 weeks to boot! We would highly recommend Joe for any renovation work, and plan to invite him back when we tackle our kitchen in a few years time. He is very dedicated to his craft, offering suggestions and recommendations that help things go smoothly along the way. The end product was outstanding. There were a few minor issues along the way, and Joe was quick to get them fixed up without any hassle. Reliable, honest, efficient and friendly - Joe's the best!
