I was impressed by the selection here - you really have to sort through the merchandise to find what they have (i.e., it takes some time to go through everything because of the way the store is set up), but I think it might be often worth it. I found a small area rug for our office that I could not find anywhere else (everywhere else I looked, an area rug that was the 'specialty size' that I was looking for was way more money). The prices are probably better than most places for larger area rugs as well - I'd always go back in the future to comparison shop here.

We got a wooden bench for our front hallway (i.e., for people to sit and put their shoes on) at Wood Sense. I didn't think we'd find what we were looking for there, but we were driving past it one day and decided to take a look. It was good timing for us because the bench was on sale and we paid a really reasonable price for what we got - high quality, real/all wood, well-crafted, and really nice looking. I would go back for other wood furniture - the prices are high on some items, but as I said, we hit a sale and we paid a reasonable price. I also believe the prices are worth it all around, as this is really quality furniture.

We dealt with Cody at DOT, and he was extremely helpful. He showed us around the entire showroom, describing the pros and cons of each patio set. We ended up buying the same patio furniture that he himself owns - he recommended it to us even though it was nowhere near the most expensive set in the showroom, and we really appreciated his honesty and first-hand experience with the furniture. DOT is really interesting because a lot of the furniture goes together, even if it isn't technically part of the same set. We know that in the future if we want to add 'pieces' to our set (e.g., side tables, rocker/swivel chairs, etc.) we will be able to go back and find something that matches. THe case iron furniture is so durable that we were told it doesn't even need to be covered in the winter - and it still has a 10 year warranty.

Academy Stone was recommended to us by our neighbour when we were first considering redoing our front and back patio stones. We went there as well as several other places, and found the customer service and selection at Academy to be the best. We were allowed the opportunity to take samples of each stone type and colouring home with us to look at next to our house and to see how it would look with the sun and light patterns that hit our front and back yards. They also talked to us about different sealers and provided recommendations that did not seem based on 'upselling' us. We really appreciated the 'no pressure - here is our expert opinion - then you decide' kind of attitude and service. We have recommended them to others in our neighbourhood.

I was very impressed with Smart Roofing (recommended by a friend). I knew there were a few loose shingles on my roof, but I was afraid that someone would tell me that the whole roof needed to be replaced, and I would need a second opinion (not knowing much about rooves myself). The gentleman than came to my house first talked to me about what I thought I needed, then went up on the roof and took pictures to show me spots that needed repair, then repaired (once I'd 'ok'd' it, took new pictures to show me the repairs, and charged much less than I was expecting. Very professional from start to finish.

I had purchased my master bedroom suite from Joshua Creek several years ago, and I didn't hesitate to return recently when looking for pieces for a spare bedroom. What I love most about this place is that so much of the furniture is Canadian-made (ours was made in Oshawa by carpentry students... it's impecibly made). The customer service here is second to none - they spend as much or as little time as you want with you, answer all questions with a great amont of knowledge, and are also great about after-sale assistance (i.e., delivery and follow-up questions). I have had countless people compliment me on this furniture. It's beautiful, obviously well-made, and timeless. I would recommend in a heartbeat, and I will surely be back.
