We’d like a small bathroom tiled and new tub installed. How much would this be approximate ballpark?

I would purchase the tile and bathtub myself if it meant saving money but I’m not sure at this point about the tile. I’d like to see a couple photos of work that you’ve done and choose something we like ultimately. It’s our main bathroom but it’s small, 6’X 5’ area, not including the tub space which is about 5’X 2 1/2’.
I’d like to hire someone who can recommend which type of tile to use. I have installed a new mirrored cabinet with lighting over it and will change my vanity myself, I just need tiling and tub done, toilet we can also do ourselves.
Ballpark anyone? Sunday afternoon is good for me to get a quote.
I’d also like a jetted tub and not sure if they come in such a small size. Also not sure if one can be hooked up in my bathroom as I assume it needs wiring or something?
Not sure there…

Hi Sonja:

I would say you are looking around $1500-1700 in labour. (ballpark) Materials and fixtures extra. Jetted tub would be more as it requires dedicated GFI circuit. I would be happy to talk more and provide you with a written estimate. see my work at rbwcontracting.com

You might go to an Italian tile store or other high quality store and bring home samples.
Many tile stores have backroom discount rooms. I got beautiful Spanish tile for $1 per square foot. But it took me about 15 samples before getting one that looked good in the light in the room (with both a window and a fluorescent light). What you need is to measure, make sure
you have extra tiles for breakage and irregularities, in fact the store can tell
you how many extras you should get (10% or 25%). There is a difference between
wall and floor tiles so you need to specify which. Tile stores will let you bring home
samples. All of the beige tiles I brought home looked like dirty grey in the room.
Even if you don’t buy them on discount the store will let you take them home and
then return them (you have to put them on your credit card then they refund it once returned)
I am so glad that the tile store insisted I try them out in the room. Especially important in
a small area. You should definitely try samples in the space at home and at different times of the day and night.

Hope that helps (my tub area is about the same size). Not including labour but including the
taps, valves, shower base (equal in cost to a soaker tub), the tiles, grout, sealer, new toilet, and tiles) – about $3,000 in materials.

Hi Adrian,
Thank you for the quote. I still haven’t gotten around to the bathroom so it’s fine that you are quoting on it.
Can I ask if you could send the quotation to my email at sonjagallant@bell.net with a complete breakdown of what is included and what I’d need to purchase? Do you have a website I could look at? We want to ensure the person we hire has experience behind their crew and a solid reputation.
Thank you,
Sonja
