Hi there,
I’m looking for some advice on a beam in our basement. It’s by the basement stairwell and runs about 7.5ft, it is sagging (about 2" on one end), and all the beams attached to it seem to be coming away from it. The floor above has a sag as well.
One of the previous owners put a jackpost(?) on one side, and I’m wondering if the same could be done on the other side… is it possible to jack up the sagging beam and re-enforce the attached beams?
I’d love to know what can be done, and what kind of price to expect – I’ve included some photos. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Jacking up the beam to the original place might not be possible but reinforcing it along with the attached beams and stop the sagging it is.
Consulting with an engineer before you try to do anything should be the first step you should take. Also he might be able to approximate the cost involved to do this right.

It Looks like a temporary solution. Most likely there is no adequate footing to support post and a load. Strongly advise on taking a second opinion from structure engineer.

this seems like those downtown (davenport area) homes, i have done a few basements like these in the southern Ontario area, i have jacked up beams that was sagged 8 inches
