Official No-Show Thread
by Corey in North Toronto over 3 years ago
Well, since there is currently no means of cataloging no-show / egregiously late contractors, let’s start one right here! If we all keep to the same format, maybe it may be incorporated into reviews later.
Line 1: Name/link on Homestars (see formatting tips for how to make a link)
Line 2: No show or late? Call or no call?
Line 3: Max. 1-2 sentences describing the aftermath, if applicable.
It’s important to keep these listings short to maximize their searchability. Cheers!

I’ll expose my back for a minute, if only to offer a suggestion on how customers can save time and disappointment.
Do digital quotes as often as possible.
Customers can send pics to the contractor.
I do 80% of my preliminary quotes this way, and travel far less than I used to a few yrs ago.
The contractor that takes pics of his/her work can use their portfolio to send back to the prospective customer with alternate ideas, examples of things they may or may not quite understand etc.
Contractors lives can be more hectic than a homeowner realizes, and homeowners often have to make an appt with someone to meet at their own home, and then arrive after the contractor.
And technology!
Lets temper our expectations about tech delivering the same quality of communication we enjoyed with just phones and/or emails or in person.
My Blackberry calendar has lost more than one piece of customer information, along with a host of other issues, so I got rid of it.
My (new) android deleted all (3)emails from one enquiring customer two weeks ago, and I have no idea how to reach him other than wait for him to call.
Yesterday, I brought the material to do a job to a condo that both the customer and I were arriving at for the first time. Turns out the husband and wife had both answered my email questions, in broken English, and had crossed their wires on info. More than half way thru the job, she commented I wasnt doing all the work, we sorted it out, I added the missing work to my day and therefore missed my evening appt. I was unable reach the evening customer till he was almost at the house to meet me and I look bad. I was 150 km away from him, and 175 km from home.
Darned if u do and darned if u dont.
The lesson: maybe the baseball rule of three strikes and your’e out or maybe send them an email or phone message if they dont show and ask for an explanation.
Im hoping the fellow whose emails Ive lost does that rather than post on Homestars.
But of course there are truly tardy contractors who dont show.
Just a few thoughts to try to cool down the temperature.

Nusite Fence and Deck (formerly known as Stone Mountain Fence and Deck).
No show.
Mark is the sales guy. Steve and Jeff are the owners. They will take your deposit money and not build your fence. We were told the fence would be installed in 3 weeks. After week 6 had passed, we had had enough of getting the run around. Well, after great effort on our part, we got our deposit money back. Some former customers of Stone Mountain weren’t so lucky. The Stone Mountain reviews are on this site. Don’t use this company.

I think this forum should be removed. After reading a review from a Cory fellow and remembering him, I looked up his email. We did try to contact Cory, even sent someone to his house the day of the appointment. No answer at the door, or the phone. Said he was home all day but our contractor waited out side of his residence for a good hour while calling many times. We can’t stand around forever.
But we get a bad review on this forum because he wasn’t around? How fare is this?

No show, no call.
I was hoping to get AnTa out to give me a quote on a new dishwasher installation, which is kind of complicated. They never showed. When I called to find out where they were, I was told they:
-Had the wrong date in their schedule (the receptionist had accidentally scheduled it in the past)
-Wrote my phone number down wrong
-Weren’t intending to come in the first place – their quote was an “educated guess”, without seeing the situation, that they left on someone else’s voice mail.
Sigh.

Personally, I think that there should also be a list of homeowners who set up appointments and are not home when the serviceman arrives or who do not cancel and we arrive to give an estimate and another contractor has been given the job. Happens at least three times a week. Time is money, not to mention, gas, etc.

Viva Kitchens is one to watch out for.
They partly completed a kitchen install at my place. Now they refuse to complete the work and refuse to answer or return phone calls. Be very careful, or better yet, just avoid this company.

No Show, no call
After receiving a confirmation call 4 days prior to my appointment we waited over 3 hours on the day of our appointment, 2 phone calls and 1 email later finally received an email stating they took the day off, did not know about my appointment and would not be coming. It looks as if this company uses a third party to book it’s appointments and I was told they were not told of my appointment, and if I had a problem with it I needed to call the person who booked my appointment and take it up with them???? Did not take any responsibility for this at all. Left a review on their Facebook page to which they responded, asking what my problem was. I left a very fair not rude explanation of what my problem was. Our conversation on their wall was deleted and now I am blocked from their FB page. Very poor customer service and poorly run business in my opinion.
