Dear consumer, I have been part of the HomeStars team for several years now. During this time, I have spoken to thousands of contractors about their businesses and about their challenges. In general, I have found that these contractors really do care about the work they do and that their biggest challenge is with their communication with you. That being said, some guys are good at their craft, but are not necessarily good teachers. What some companies don’t realize is that they do what they do everyday and that compared to them, you are a babe in the woods! So, how to bridge this gap? I think it takes consideration of this fact from the company’s side and a little understanding from your side. Perhaps the contractor you recently chose is doing a great job, but you feel a little in the dark about certain aspects of your project, then communicate this to your contractor. Don’t let it build up inside of you and nobody wins.
When writing a review, please try to make it constructive, keeping in mind that other consumers will read your review. Also, you can make suggestions of what you think the company can do to be better.

I am also hearing more and more stories about contractors being blackmailed by their customers, ‘to do work for free’ or they will write a negative review. Please do not do this. We do not support this conduct. Just hire another company to do the job for you if you don’t want to pay the rate. Keep in mind, when an electrician for prices a job for example, you are not only paying for his time. You are paying for his expertise. It is important to understand this, so you don’t feel ripped off. Always do your research first, so you can make an educated choice. Once you have made your choice and are presented with a quote or contract, make sure to review everything with your contractor. If your contractor is unwilling to take the time to do so, this is a sign that you should not proceed.

Dear consumer, please help us to continue to provide a great service for everyone. Thank you for the read.

Kind regards,
Terry Mardini
Director of Business Development

We are thankful for your post Terry. I can definetly agree to the above comments. Whats worse is we have had a client refuse to pay a final payment from a contractor we worked with and not hotwire directly but they were unhappy with the contractor and took it out on all the trades under the GC. We should all be careful when writing such reviews and be able to seek assistance when there is proof that the company did not do anything wrong after all. Thanks Terry for looking out for the contractors too :) I know this site is all about clients and their reviews and we are very happy to know they have a place to share it. But we are also glad to have a voice on this site as well and be able to reply. I have had 10 stars review by clients with comments that we are pricey. even after they called other contractors and got everyone to price the job. We never said we were the cheapest but what we provide is piece of mind and quality of work and we do not cut corners. Thats quality and sometimes cheapest isnt best. If you want good quality, you need to find a contractor you trust and one that will be there for you, we are there for the clients and we appreciate their reviews on this site. for the month of August we will donate 5 dollars for each client review given to Hotwire on behalf of our clients and in appreciation of them taking the time to write these reviews.

Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

You can’t fake quality any more than you can fake a good meal.

Terry,
Thank you posting this, as I think that you have hit the nail on the head. Quality is something that has been lost along the way to profit margins (in my humble opinion) and I fear for the direction that this will continue to push the trades.
I’m hoping I’m wrong…..

Thank you, ANJAC GTA. In my opinion, the contractors who take pride in their work are the ones who shine amongst others. There are many of them at HomeStars. Pride is the heart of quality.
