I wanted to add this post because I was scammed by a local contractor to do a fence. Horrible feeling to see someone take your money, and not do the job.
Beware of this person! I paid him a $600 deposit, plus I paid another $575 for materials, to put up a small fence. A small job which a professional would have completed in a few days. The only time he showed up was to collect the deposit, which he was very anxious to get. After 15 days of contacting him daily, asking when he would be starting the job, he had the most pathetic excuses why he could not do the job. On the 15th day I asked for my money back, I had enough. He said he didn’t have it anymore and was not going to do the job…wow! Unbelievable. It has been horrible dealing with this unprofessional person, so stressful. I had to contact him daily to ask him to show up and work. Every day he would tell a lie why he couldn’t work and then say he was on his way, or that he was coming tomorrow …which never happened. I now have to take him to small claims to get my money back. So disgusting that people like this are out in the field scamming the public!!!!
If you or yourself were considering using this company…RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I think for this case, I would call the police! He may as well have broken into your home and taken your cash.
Every story has 2 sides, but NO ONE takes people’s money without keeping in touch. Contract or not, that is theft.

I agree with Robert, the police should be called on this individual! It is these practises that give our industry as a whole a bad name. I’m not sure how it is in Ontario, but in Alberta we need provincial licensing in order to accept deposits.

Interesting to see there are now two of us….who knows how many more have been scammed? Robert, I did contact the Police but they won’t do anything since it is contractual law.

very strange indeed. Do either of you have a written contract with his company details, licnese number, insurance number, WSIB number, etc?

I have a quote, have to check what info is on it.
What can I do with this info?

he may have faked that as well. If it is a genuine company, you can trace his company and report him to possibly get his company named revoked and his business license suspended.
