Front porch

BBG Carpentry rebuilt the front porch of our house, which had originally been built in 1908. That means that the old porch had lasted 111 years. I am sure the new porch will last longer, long outliving both the present homeowners and new builders; but BBG’s name is on the underside of the porch so that in the future someone will appreciate the people responsible for this remarkable piece of craftmanship.

BBG’s work was meticulous. I was much harder to rebuild the porch thad it had been to build the original—over time everything that was square had shifted and much was never true in the first place. The new structure is much improved, stronger, and greatly modified. We could have been happier with John’s work as a carpenter.

What impressed us even more was his work in cladding the structure in ipe (also sometimes referred to as Brazilian mahogany), an expensive, but very hard and extremely durable material. It is a material that requires great attention to install properly. Instead of using clips, which is what many installers do who are not as adept, John and his colleague Sandro, predrilled and countersunk stainless-steel screws which were then plugged and sanded in order to control for warpage or bending in the deck and fascia boards.

The resulting product does not resemble a deck really, but rather looks like a piece of fine furniture or the deck of an expensive yacht. For example, where the fascia boards meet each other the miters are beautifully precise and exact from top to bottom. BBG’s attention to detail and desire to do the very best work was produced one of the best experiences we have ever had over a decade of thoroughly renovating our old home. I think I can say that John and Sandro were almost as proud of their work as we were and continue to be pleased by it. Every day we leave or return to our house we have the opportunity of enjoying a truly magnificent work of art. For that we are extremely thankful. It is so rare to deal with a company so dedicated to excellence in their work and eager to exceed the expectations of their clients.

Incredible Job, Ideal Contractor for any Project.

What can we say, John was incredible, his craftsmanship and attention to detail are in my opinion unparalleled in the GTA market. We had been searching for a long time and had been met with overpriced unreliable contractors who joshed us around. We were recommended John by a family friend and he was amazing. John at BBG is an incredibly prompt, honest, reliable, hardworking, knowledgable expert carpenter. He answered our numerous questions drew up over 4 different plans and worked within our budget. Hands down the best decision you can make. John is open friendly and serious about his work, my only regret is that I didn't have more work for him. We just hired him once again to work in our house and can not wait for the results.

Baby Nursery

We had a vision for our baby's nursery - showed John a picture, asked for the work we had been quoted by other contractors, and he came back with a more affordable solution than we had even known was possible. John offered guidance in terms of material to use to align with the look and feel of our modern home, came to do the job in a timely manner, and was extremely professional throughout. Best of all, he left us with a high quality output and we are thrilled!

Replacement Interior & Exterior Doors

John came in and replaced an interior door and repaired an exterior steel door, as well as some damaged baseboard and casing. Overall great work - doors all function properly with a great fit, no rattling and even gaps. Was respectful of home and cleaned up after completion of work. Will definitely use John again for future work.

Trim, crown and doors

I first have to apologize as this response is long overdue. I received John’s name from one of his colleagues due to the size of the job. John responded to my voice mail promptly and set up an appointment for him to come by and provide a quote. John attended as scheduled and it was clear he knew what he was doing.
Due to the size of the job (baseboard, casing with back band, new doors and crown moulding throughout entire house) John brought Sandro along to help him out. I have to say the two of them were very enjoyable to have around.
It is always a challenge to live through renovations especially when it affects every room in the entire house. John and Sandro were very respectful and did their best to ensure that nothing was damaged throughout the install. With constant communication we were able to work together to minimize the disruption to my family.
Together they made a great team as Sandro worked on the finer detailed work demonstrating his superb woodworking skills as John installed the crown, making it look easy. Considering that our house is a new build and there isn’t a straight wall or square corner in the place, John was able to adjust and adapt leaving the finished product looking remarkable.
Due to the size of the project it took about four weeks to complete and in that time they became like family.
They were dependable and a pleasure to have around. At the end of the project the quote was fairly accurate and they also installed some additional crown moulding over our built-in cabinets as our cabinet company was unable to provide the same level of installation quality.
Overall it was a great experience!!
Thanks again John, looking forward to the next project.
