Cold Room Swamp

We've been seeing moisture in our cold room for a number of years but managed it well until that last few torrential downpours when the proverbial "dam" broke and we got flooded. I called Darby at Mud Monkeys as his reputation for quality workmanship and fast action is known far and wide in my industry.

All the positive reviews were true! He was on time, gave me a reasonable quote and promptly had the job done within days! The best part is I can now feel secure when it rains and not have to contend with the anxiety that comes with a potential flood every time there's a downpour!

Job well done!

Leaky Basement

We had a flood in our basement from a freak accident and decided to get waterproofing done. This was more complex as we only had about 1.5 feet between our house and the neighbour's house on that side. We called Mud Monkeys who we had worked with before to help us with the job. They were swift to come and give us a recommendation and quote. The job was done as quoted and professionally. I would highly recommend them for any waterproofing work that you may need,

Underpinning, Waterproofing, Weeping tile linking into the sump drum and Pour new concrete floor

Darby offered us a fair price for a job done right estimated number. He and his crew lowered and waterproofed the basement. Their underpinning, waterproofing and concrete pouring jobs were very remarkable, we are fully satisfied.

Underpinning included dug out inspected foundation walls, backfill and install a 4-inch gravel base and pour a new 3-inch wire mesh reinforced concrete floor. Darbys Mud Monkeys team always showed up on time, and kept a very organized and clean job site. They are hard-working people and the most respectful and professional crew who enjoy doing their work every day. They explained exactly what they were doing from day 1. The project ended on time, with Darbys extra help we were able to quickly finish the whole concrete floor. I couldn't have done it without you, truly appreciate your help.

Our Dufferin has an extra 500 sq feet floor added to our Toronto home. 8 foot ceiling at lower level. Thank you, Darby and your team. I look forward to working with you on future projects. I have and will continue to refer Mud Monkeys Waterproofing to friends and family.

High ratings are well-earned

Mud Monkeys got our job done super quickly. They did all the digging in one day (including under a deck without having to remove it), leaving the site neat and tidy overnight. They installed the weeper, fixed some problems with a previous waterproofing job and backfilled the next day, and removed the excess dirt and did a final cleanup the third morning. Darby clearly explained every step in the process and he and his guys were all pleasant and eager to please. I highly recommend them.

Great communication and follow-through!

We had Darby & team waterproof our old home and they were great! The crew always showed up when they said they would, everyone was polite and respectful. There some complications that came up on our job but it got done for the quoted price. We've had some questions and needed some additional backfill since the job was done and Darby has always been super quick to respond and helpful. Highly recommend.

Foundation Waterproofing & Insulation

I needed to improve the energy efficiency of my 100+ year old home before I had a new heat pump installed, starting with waterproofing and insulating the exterior foundations. I had several companies come in and quote. Most of them gave me a hard time or made a big deal about having to dig under the front porch and back deck. One even said they would need to remove the deck boards to do the work. Not Mud Monkeys. Darby took a look and said they had done this before with similar homes. He made me feel comfortable right from the start. Once they started working I knew I had made the right choice. Darby and his crew were excellent. They worked hard under difficult conditions, were pleasant to deal with and kept the area as tidy as possible (hard to do when youre moving that much dirt!) at the end of each day. They truly take pride in their work and it shows. You can trust Mud Monkeys to do the job right. Im glad I did.

We have worked with Darby twice - 6 out of five.

Darby replaced weeping tiles around our previous house. This is dirty, messy, difficult work. His work was spotless. His explanations thorough and very helpful. He not only explained what he was doing and why, but how underpinning and weeping tiles work.
When we sold the house he provided a very clear transfer of warranty to the new owners.
In our new house we needed to do some waterproofing. First rate work once again. We needed to involve a plumber as a third party. He handled this contract and the fee was much less - and the work done more quickly -than we could have arranged.
There is no one finer.
Cost of underpinning and weeping tiles, about 12 years ago was about $30,000. Recent waterproofing was about $2500.

Basement Underpinning

Mud monkeys had underpinned the basement of a friend of mine a few years ago. As I was one day dreaming of having this work done in my own basement, I paid closed attention to the work being carried out at the time. Witnessing the magnitude of the work required, challenges encountered and workmanship of the final product, it became clear to me that I found who I needed to make my basement dreams a reality.
A few years later, I called Darby to request a quote. Work began and I knew my basement was in good hands.
The employees were very friendly and had excellent work ethic. The crew showed up every day until project completion. Housekeeping of the front yard, sidewalk and walkways were top of mind at the end of each shift. The crew powered through several challenges such as encountering a large boulder. Darby was always ready to help with any questions, concerns, and requests I had throughout the job which put my mind at ease.
Darby delivered my 8ft high basement within a few months as per the quote provided, and exceeded my expectations of the final product.
The best lesson-learned I can give, is to retain Darbys Engineer to provide the permit drawings and inspection of each stage. This will save you the headaches I have experienced, of having to coordinate with multiple parties at times of inspection.

Waterproofing and sump well

Darby and his crew stepped in, without delay, to waterproof the exterior south wall of my house, after I discovered some termites and had to remove the interior wall of the basement and waterproof the exterior wall before I could redo the interior wall. They came when they said they would; were finished in the time they estimated; and stuck to their quote!
They were courteous, professional and timely, and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

WATERPROOFING

Tired of mopping the water in your basement? Does your basement smell of mould and mildew? Is your foundation wall retaining water slowly and deteriorating? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then the following will describe the reasons why, and how, to eliminate the problem. The cause of your basement's musty smell is because your foundation wall is retaining water, be it in the hollow block cavities or trapped behind the double brick or stone wall, as well as the water that is absorbed by the block, brick and stone. This combination causes the wall to produce mould, mildew and epharecense. The water trapped in the wall slowly deteriorates the wall, starting at the bottom. The water that makes its way into the basement through the wall and seems to cause us the most grief may not be the most concerning problem. The same problem will not occur with a solid poured concrete wall. The reason being you will find a defined crack in the solid wall that allows all the water to enter in, without retaining little, or any water.Regardless of which type of foundation you have, it can become watertight, mould and mildew-free by sealing your foundation from the OUTSIDE. With solid poured concrete foundations, you can inject the crack from the inside and the elements stay out.You must expose your foundation wall from grade level to 6" below the top of the footing. Then you must clean the wall thoroughly, exposing the deteriorated areas and cleaning all the dust and dirt from the wall. Then, restore any cracks or loose mortar joints with hydrolic cement. Cement coat the wall,Tar and install 6mm poly plastic on top. Once the wall is treated, install a 4" continuous weeping tile covered with 6 inches of 3/4" stone. Then back-fill the earth compacting at every foot. At grade level slope the earth, concrete, interlocking etc. away from the house. This method never fails. I have used this system over 13 years without fail. I have the references for you to refer to. We also have a photo album to take you step by step through the procedure. So, stop mopping! Relieve your allergies from mold and mildew and restore your foundation. When you do decide to restore your foundation do it the right way - from the outside. Remember, 40% of all my work is fixing other people's attempt to stop the water.
