Even though we had to wait six weeks for them to come because they are so busy, I cannot recommend Darby and his team highly enough. They were excellent. We could not believe how tidy they were and how quickly they were finished. And they were highly respectful of our neighbour's property when they had to dig on the north side. After they finished, our water problems in the basement disappeared.

I discovered a leak in my stone foundation basement and a friend recommended the Mud Monkeys. I called up for an estimate and Darby arrived the next day, assessed the problem and provided a written quote by that evening. They dug around the outside wall and sealed it up beautifully. The work site was left clean in the evenings and was pristine at the end of the job. Darby is a wonderful person who will go out of his way to solve your problem (including going above and beyond what I expected). I only have praise for him and his team.

Darby and his crew did an amazing job. Needed to excavate and waterproof an old brick foundation. Darby was always prompt in returning calls, his crews showed up on time and worked in a tight downtown backyard and did a great job cleaning up. I highly recommend Mud Monkeys for your waterproofing needs.

Thank you Kevin, its always a challenge sealing a foundation in Cabbagetown, but it's definitley a great feeling when you know you have successfully stopped the water. These homes were built in the 1800's and numerous homeowners have had to do work on the foundation to stop water leaks. Once you have exposed the wall from the outside and have located the problem area, you can be assured you will be able to solve the problem. Thanks again for choosing us. Darby

We are in a semi-detached that had water coming in from both the exterior and interior walls of our basement. We interviewed MANY companies. Various sources had us needing to re-drop our basement without a guarunteed result for the tune of $45,000. The costs we were being quoted were out of this world... and then came Mud Monkeys. Due to our unique situation, we chose to interior waterproof our basement upon their consultation. Not only did Darby provide the friendliest service, but also the best price. We intend to use Mud Monkeys to do our external waterproofing in the coming years, but can now use our basement as a comfortable living space in the meantime. Thanks Mud Monkeys!

Juliette, we genuinely appreciate your review. We were happy we were able to help you with your problem, which is very common amongst houses on the Danforth. Whenever a previous homeowner chooses to lower the floor without properly benching or underpinning you can have this problem. We can waterproof the exterior walls and not stop the problem, only an interior waterproof will work in this situation. We do look forward to waterproofing your exterior walls at a later date if you choose to restore them. Thanks again, Darby

Darby and his team did a great job. We needed to completely waterproof the perimeter of our 80-year old bungalow. Darby explained in detail the work that they were going to do, and was able to start a day early. His team was punctual, and even worked during the weekend to stay ahead of schedule. Everyone on the team was courteous. They kept the site as clean as possible, and cleaned up and covered everything each night. They were always happy to answers our questions and explain details of the work as it progresses. They completed the work ahead of schedule. The only thing left is to fill in some spots along the house as the ground settles more, and they will do this soon as part of the job. We've had a few major rainfalls since the work was done, and the basement is dry!!! Thanks!

Darby and his team were on time and on budget and worked with me to achieve exactly what was desired. After Darby had completed the job, the city changed our inspector who of course found something he wasn't happy with. Even though Darby followed the recommendations of the previous inspector, he came back no questions and addressed the issue. As far as I'm concerned, Darby and the Mud Monkeys are an 11 out of 10

I would like to express my complete satisfaction with the weeping tile system Mud Monkeys provided me with. I own a 100 year old home. Needless to say, the house requires quite a bit of work. The basement in particular has quite a few problems. Most notably, however, has been the years of water leaking through the bricks creating both tremendous brick degradation and mold growth. As a result, I decided that the best solution would be to install a weeping tile system that would redirect the water and drain it out. I looked at least 15 quotes before deciding to go with Mud Monkeys. From the time I first spoke to Darby on the phone to the the day the project was fianalized, Darby and his team's professionalism, dedication and diligence continuously exceeded my expectations.Mud monkeys not only offers a very reasonable price for their line of work but more importantly they did the job in a timely and tidy manner. They managed to install their entire system in TWO days!!! The team was extremely personable and polite. We are extremely happy that we decided to go with Mud Monkeys. We would have no hesitation in recommending to them to other prospective clients. On behalf of Daniel and myself, we thank you for all your hard work and dedication.

We used Homestars to find a waterproofing company and I am thrilled with the work done by Mud Monkeys. Darby has a terrific crew of fellows especially Nick and Troy and Mark. The were efficient and conscientious in everything they did as well as a pleasure to deal with. We had major water problems and they worked diligently to fix all the areas needed. Our only disappointment was that we offered to adopt all the guys and they turned us down! They are welcome back anytime!

Darby was very personable and professional to deal with. No over the phone quote but a hand delivered estimate, a full description of the work to be done and an explanation of their guarantee. Other firms would do the work for the same price but wouldn't replace the interlocking brick that had to be removed to do the repair. Darby explained that he couldn't replace the brick until spring and suggested I hold back part of the payment until it was done. He asked that I give him a call in the spring. I did and within a short time our brick was back in place and in better shape than before it was removed. In addition he rerouted our downspout that was not part of our original estimate to help prevent future problems . I would definetly recommend Mud Monkeys to my friends and use them again if needed.

We had water leaking into our 3 year old finished basement due to settling between an addition and the original structure. Upon contacting the delightful Darby, he came out within 24 hours to quote us on the job. He gave us repair options, gave us all the info we felt we need to make a decision and quoted us a price much lower than expected. He and his crew made me feel like I was the most important job they'd ever had. They updated me on the progress of the job (which they finished very quickly) and were nicest guys. They were accommodating and respectful of my neighbour and even offered to come back to repair any issues with her interlocking brick later in the spring. I would recommend Darby & the Mud Monkeys to anyone.... EVER. A pleasure to deal with, to be sure.

WATERPROOFING

Tired of mopping the water in your basement? Does your basement smell of mould and mildew? Is your foundation wall retaining water slowly and deteriorating? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then the following will describe the reasons why, and how, to eliminate the problem. The cause of your basement's musty smell is because your foundation wall is retaining water, be it in the hollow block cavities or trapped behind the double brick or stone wall, as well as the water that is absorbed by the block, brick and stone. This combination causes the wall to produce mould, mildew and epharecense. The water trapped in the wall slowly deteriorates the wall, starting at the bottom. The water that makes its way into the basement through the wall and seems to cause us the most grief may not be the most concerning problem. The same problem will not occur with a solid poured concrete wall. The reason being you will find a defined crack in the solid wall that allows all the water to enter in, without retaining little, or any water.Regardless of which type of foundation you have, it can become watertight, mould and mildew-free by sealing your foundation from the OUTSIDE. With solid poured concrete foundations, you can inject the crack from the inside and the elements stay out.You must expose your foundation wall from grade level to 6" below the top of the footing. Then you must clean the wall thoroughly, exposing the deteriorated areas and cleaning all the dust and dirt from the wall. Then, restore any cracks or loose mortar joints with hydrolic cement. Cement coat the wall,Tar and install 6mm poly plastic on top. Once the wall is treated, install a 4" continuous weeping tile covered with 6 inches of 3/4" stone. Then back-fill the earth compacting at every foot. At grade level slope the earth, concrete, interlocking etc. away from the house. This method never fails. I have used this system over 13 years without fail. I have the references for you to refer to. We also have a photo album to take you step by step through the procedure. So, stop mopping! Relieve your allergies from mold and mildew and restore your foundation. When you do decide to restore your foundation do it the right way - from the outside. Remember, 40% of all my work is fixing other people's attempt to stop the water.
