Two Bathrooms and a Fitness Room

I wish I could give a glowing review like the others here, but I can't.

What was supposed to be a 6-week project took over 11 weeks. Overall communications was poor, and most often had to be initiated by us. We never knew from one day to the next who, if anyone, was going to show up or what work was going to be done. And when work was done, there was usually a problem with it.

In fact, about half of everything had to be done more than once. The plumbers (Black's) left a mess every time they came. They drilled through studs and joists to run lines and just left the shavings, pipe cuttings and debris wherever it fell. Water lines that were moved in the basement ended up leaking and flooded an area of our storage room. Then there was the toilet in the main bath that wasn't bolted down properly until we noticed brown water seeping out from under it a few weeks later. Despite all kinds of assurances, Black's and Robinson Lighting and Bath screwed up the plumbing fixture order and failed to have taps and sinks onsite when the granite installers arrived.

Like the plumbers, the electrician never cleaned up after himself, either. Bits of wire, wood shavings and drywall bits were left everywhere he went. And it took three tries to get the floor heat controller in the right place in the master bath - despite going over this with Rod and marking the walls.

The tile (Contempa Flooring) was a nightmare. After three attempts, the tiles are still not level and there is significant "lipping" of tiles. We decided to just put up with it because we wanted these yahoos out of our house. The installers would show up before 7 am - sometimes on a Saturday - despite being told not to arrive until after 8. And, after hammering out poorly installed tiles into the tub and standing on them, our acrylic soaker tub is deeply pitted and scratched. The acrylic shower base in the master bath is also scratched.

Contempa's handiwork didn't end there. The engineered hardwood installed in our fitness room has dried glue patches in several places. And, even though it was on the work order, they failed to use the proper transition piece where the hardwood meets carpet in the adjoining room. When the carpet installers came (we went with another supplier thank goodness), Contempa had to come back to fix the transition piece before our carpet company could finish the installation.

Attention to detail and quality of finishing was hit-and-miss. Drywall work is not stellar. Finishing carpenters would fail to sink nails and fill holes, then painters would come in and paint over - even if the nails were sticking out a quarter of an inch! It was like no one had any pride in anything they did.

It became a comedy of errors, really (like the dumpster truck driver who dropped a dumpster onto the back of our car parked out front, causing over $3000 damage).

Rod seems like a very nice guy and I feel confident things are done to code, but by now you've likely gathered...we won't have them back.

Kitchen/living room/dining room

We had Ashwood homes do a major renovation of our main floor and a small addition. I must say that Rod and Mike are very easy to work with. They were hands on every step of the way, from planning to completion. They always kept a tidy work site and did a full clean up when the job was done. The trades people were always courteous. They stuck to the estimated price. Any issues were addressed promptly. It seemed like progress was made every day, they never left you hanging like other contractors I've experienced. Last year we had them do a bathroom renovation with excellent results. I would definitely recommend them to anyone!

3 bathrooms, deck and outside concrete landing

2 projects were done. Firstly, 3 bathrooms were fully reconstructed and, secondly, a deck with accompanying French drain and a concrete landing and steps outside the back door.
The advice received for all these differing projects was extremely helpful in deciding what would be done.
The projects were all excellently supervised and the craftsmen working in the different areas did quality work and were very pleasant and helpful.
The projects also came in on budget.
I would not hesitate to use them again on future projects or recommend them.

Two Story home Renovation

We had Ashwood renovate two stories in our home. Kitchen, bathrooms, floors, ceilings and main living areas. Project came in on budget, which we believe is due to his relationship and the professionalism of his contractors being able to quote appropriatly on the project. There were no surprises and Rod was always very easy to contact and discuss any concerns we may have. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend their company for any type of project.

great room addition and basement after flood

Great on-time and on budget on both projects. We worked mostly with Rod but Mike was always there if needed. Good practical suggestions and input along the way and they appear to have strong relationships with subcontractors where applicable,

Kitchen Reno and 2nd Floor Reno

We did a kitchen renovation with Ashwood Homes 4 years ago followed by a second story renovation 18 months ago that included 2 bathrooms. We are currently working on a basement renovation with them as well. We've always been extremely happy with our experiences with this company and would not hesitate to recommend them. Honesty, appreciative of budget and time constraints and great trades people working for them.

Home Renovation

Rod and Mike from Ashwood Homes were wonderful to work with on our home renovation. Rod assisted with the design and had suggestions for companies to work with for tile, wood flooring, granite, etc. Our renovation was on time and on budget. We are very happy with our "new" home.

Basement Developement

What a difference your choice in contractor makes! This was our second major project in about a year and did not invite the first contractors back for repeat business. We WOULD however ask Ashwood back if we have another project in the future.
We dealt with Rod and Mike, but almost solely with Mike once the project started. They started when they said they would and finished the job in the 9 week time frame. There were a couple minor touch ups after that time, but we had full use of our basement during that time.
Mike was professional and great to deal with. He would give his opinion on logistics or look, but would always say it is our space and he would do what we wanted.
We would definately recommend Ashwood and we already have to people we know.
