Richard and Jennifer were very friendly and easy to deal with throughout the process (full bathroom renovation). Regretfully we were not treated as if we were important to them. The completed work was very satisfactory but the process was painful. Work was done when Richard could get someone to come. The tradesman who did the work was doing so as a second job. Sometimes he would call to see if work could be done on Sunday afternoon/evening. The job took a month and a half to complete. I paid by cheque in installments but never was given a receipt. I require a paid invoice for tax purposes. Since that time I have attempted to contact Richard by email, text and telephone (over twenty attempts). Richard has never responded. Soooo..... if you want a quality job done and are prepared to wait a long time for it to be completed and then to be ignored like you never existed, hire Richard and Jennifer. But I will never do so again

We hired HSG to do a full kitchen reno, which included tearing down a full wall between the kitchen and dining room, shortening a wall that divided the staircase and living room, removing two knee walls and replacing the flooring throughout the entire main floor. Jennifer created an innovative design to meet the needs of a smaller space. Work commenced on the scheduled day and continued without interruption until a scheduled break for installation of the countertop. The same work crew that did the specs also did the tear down and rebuild, and they were excellent. Each day, they removed the debris and were careful to clean up. We had a wall-mounted TV and an internet router installed and worked with the crew to ensure that all wires were hidden; it took a little extra work, but the crew were enthusiastic about getting it right. There are always going to be issues, but Richard was focussed on getting a satisfactory resolution. For example, there was a lack of insulation between the dishwasher and an outer cabinet, causing an unsightly warping on the outer cabinet a few weeks after the job was completed. Richard ensured the crew promptly fixed the problem, adding insulation and replacing the outer cabinet at no extra charge. Thanks Richard and Jennifer for a great job! We are pleased to show the results to friends and neighbours and recommend HSG.

Rick took the "lath & plaster" "knob & tube wiring" Century old house and brought up to code and ready to live in with style. The crew was always on time, very clean after each days work and friendly. This job was large in scope and Jenifer was very helpful with making decisions in all aspects of the job as it evolved. I have recommended them to 2 others and they both had the same opinion of the work that was carried out. I will use them again on my next house.

I thought the workmen were excellent and did a great job, and were very considerate about the impact they had on the rest of our house and our schedule. Richard and Jennifer had a lot of good suggestions and ideas, and whenever I had a question Richard was just a phone call away. I am really pleased with the way everything came out.

We just love our main bathroom renovation. It looks so clean and crisp. It is a small bathroom but looks much larger now. We had no problems picking out tile, cabinets, toilet and tub and fixtures as there was lots of choice and Jennifer did a great design job. We were very impressed with the crew who showed up every day for full days. The job from teardown to beautiful finished bathroom was 3 weeks as promised. A year later we are now getting estimates for other projects in our home from Richard. I would definitely recommend HSG and thankful for friends who got us in touch with Richard.

We were initially apprehensive when we decided to renovate our kitchen by opening it up into our dining and living rooms. After receiving designs and quotes from several companies, we felt Richard and Jennifer's ideas and professional approach to our needs surpassed all others. The crews were very skilled, thorough and thoughtful when working in our home. Richard was always available when called to come to the site to discuss and resolve concerns we had. The kitchen reno was completed in the time frame quoted and the finished product was more than we could have ask for. I would recommend HSG Consulting to anyone who is considering a home renovation.

We have a beautiful master bedroom, but had an ugly and tiny ensuite bathroom that over the years we grew to dislike for many reasons. Certainly, the small and ugly bit bothered us and so did the pre-fab corner shower that was leaking and causing mold as well as the linoleum floor (did I mention ugly) that always looked dirty. There was a crappy (pun intended) little commode that constantly need attention to keep it flushing properly and the box-store vanity was, well, just plain ugly. The whole room was a disaster and an insult to the rest of the house. So that brings us to THE PROJECT. I researched and reviewed and even did a scale CAD of the room as a conversation starter with contractors we would interview. I sent out feelers to a few on this Homestars site as well as a number of web responses to other contractors' websites. None seemed in any hurry to respond despite repeated attempts, except Richard Gartner, one of the principals at HSG Consulting. Subsequently we met Richard and his wife, interior designer/decorator, Jennifer and they put together a drawing of the suggestions we had discussed. Speeding up the story, we arranged to meet at the showroom to pick tiles, stone and fixtures. It was difficult because the choice was endless, but Jennifer guided us the whole way and we settled on everything right there. Fast forward to the renovation work. The team arrives early morning at the appointed hour and immediately put down drop cloths wherever they are to walk and they completely seal the bedroom from the work area so no dust may infiltrate. These guys are so polite and so efficient and don't seem to mind working long days that the job was accomplished amazingly quickly. Each of the team was a craftsman and did flawless work. Every day that they came and went they tidied up and you would hardly know they had been here. Richard and Jennifer checked on progress everyday and made sure all ran smoothly. Now we are proud of the room; it's a joy to use, especially the shower, the heated floor and the heated towel rack. How nice is that on a chilly winter's day? We will engage Richard and Jennifer on the next project, this time it is the biggest room in the house, the great room. It cries out for hardwood and paint. It will be a pleasure working with them again.

We met with Richard and Jennifer to discuss a challenging Kitchen project. Redesigning the space, and moving a structural beam. This was a huge project for us and Richard and Jennifer delivered on every level. Jennifer worked with us to get the design we wanted and gave us a kitchen to fit our lifestyle. The workers were considerate of our home, worked 6 days a week and always cleaned up at the end of the day. Richard was attentive to our questions and concerns and dealt with issues immediately. He was generous with adding extra work for reasonable costs. The final price was as we expected and we would highly recommend HSG consulting for any project. Richard and Jennifer make a great team!

The key for me was in the design. I had a number of contractors quote, and Jennifer was the only one who provided a thought out design. It was different from all the other and she explained why she made the recommendations. Some minor and not so minor issues during build were all resolved. I have already recommended them to friends, who are happy with their work.
