I believe this company is not in business anymore, at least no one answered the phone or showed up at work in their Scarborough location. Hand written notes from angry customers can be found on the front door asking for their money back. I'm writing this review because I'm sure the bad apples who used to work in this company are still in the industry and people should stay away from any dealings with them. I wish I've come across the negative reviews on Active Temp sooner but my electrician referred this company to me because he personally rents his tankless water heater from Active Temp. I compared products and prices of about 5 - 6 company and Active Temp was in mid-price range and the sale person (Peter) seems to be professional at the time. So I went with them. And that's when my nightmare started. (That was July 2010) 1. Peter booked a time for installation, when the technician didn't show up I called the office. Whoever answer the phone said Peter is not supposed to book appointment and said he'll call me again for another appointment. No call back, then I had to chase them with numerous phone calls to nail down an appointment date/time. 2. Technician showed up without a water heater, he thought that someone already delivered at my house. When trying to figure out what happened, the technician also was mistakenly told that I need an AC installed not a water heater. He said he's not prepared to install water heater so he left. There goes my 2nd appointment. 3. Numerous calls with the office and talked to the so-called 'manager' Paul, got the technician to come back with the water heater. The technician could barely speak English and at one point Paul had to come over to translate. ( I think they're Iranians) 4. Installation was done poorly my husband came home and called them back to fix it. Basically they ran a giant yellow gas pipe (about 10 ft) from the meter to the furnace outside the house, and whatever they did to the pipe was not up to code. They came back a few days later and said they fixed the problem. 5. Winter came and we often left with no hot water. If you stand in the cold shower to wait you might finally get some hot water but something's definitely wrong. One day I went to the furnance room and walked around the meter outside the house, not knowing what I was supposed to look for but I smelled gas. I called Enbridge right away and they send a crew in 2 hrs. 6. Enbridge crew determined there's a small leak (probably not caused by the water heater installer but the fatique on parts) but they also noticed the water heater installation was so wrong that they gave us a warning tag that we need to fix within 45 days. 7. Called Active Temp again and explained the warning tag. They knew exactly what I was talking about and said they handled that often (oh how comforting). Said they would call back but never call. Voice mails left with them and no one ever calls back. I finally decided to pay a visit at their store, just to find out all signs indicating they're no longer in business. 8. Since then, I had to find another techinican to fix the warning tag and get Enbridge off my back. But I still have to fix the problem of not getting enough hot water due to the size of the gas pipe. Active temp was supposed to use a bigger pipe but apparently whatever size they estimated wasn't getting the work done. If anyone know the names of other people who worked at Active Temp please post it so other homeowers can stay away from them if possible. From my experience they're a bunch of unprofessional clowns - from Sales, to customer services, to technicians.

Installation of a 5 tonne air conditioner. The wire used was 10 guage, and not the required 8 guage. The wire shortered, and now it cost me $450 to get someone else to rewire it. By the way, they have also been removed from the Better Business Bureau as well in 2010. Too many complaints.

We purchased a tankless water heater and it took a few visits to get it working after is kept leaking. Now since it takes forever to get hot water and our unit has to be reset constantly and sometimes won't work. we have made several calls to get service with the warranty we are suppose to have on it but with no success. No call backs have been made to us we are now left with going to the better business bureau soon and to seek legal action if nothing happens soon. Let the buyer beware.

The details are the same as most posts on this forum. We have been without hot water for 6 SIX days! The most unprofessional, rude, imcompetent dicks I have ever hired. They claim they are all named Johne ( yes with an "e") Smith or Sam Smith but can barely put a sentence together in English. The product should have been good, but the installation was exactly the opposite of everything in the manual. They now refuse to honour the warranty because it was installed wrong- BY THEM! BUYER BEWARE! Google their name and you automatically get redirected to a Ontario consumer complaint form

Dealt with them in August 2009, called to install a tankless water heater. Somewhat professional sales pitch and a good looking price... it quickly went downhill from there: 1. technicians are rude, unprofessional, badmouthing the company 2. in some cases technicians barely speak English, which is not a problem until #3 3. technicians cut corners and installed only one vent pipe (exhaust) through the house wall. Open up manufacturer's manual that came with the unit, and in black and white it says: must install both intake and exhaust pipes directly to outside, otherwise bad things will happen and warranty will be void (specifically, backdrafting will cause freezing of the unit in colder climates). Had to argue almost to a point of shouting - their argument was that installation price included "basic installation service". Whatever that means. Eventually I called the bank and stopped the check, and they had no choice but to come back and do it correctly. 4. When they left, we had to shut off the unit because of gas smell, if you can believe it. We had to threaten to call Enbridge for them to get back in. Then they argued that there was no gas leak, going by the soap bubbles measuring method. I insisted that they used something more scientific - and sure enough there was a gas leak. Fixed. 5. One year later, I am calling to get my first year's free maintenance, and - surprise - since it was not written into the boilerplate contract, I am out of luck. So now I am looking for another company to take over maintenance of this unit, as these people will not be allowed back into my house.

In June this year, Active Temp Control installed a single stage furnace instead of the two-stage I had paid for. The office has promised that a boss would return my call at least 5 times, but I have had no such phone call (not one). They have spectacularly failed to take responsibility for their 'error'. I just pray the furnace they installed actually works this winter.

Installation is very poor, leaving lots of mess on the ground, from an Iranian guy and another young Iranian. Even worse, when air conditioner is working, lots of water is leaking from the furnace, which terribly damaged my basement. I phoned the customer service many times, they said that a contract had phoned us but could not reached us. Then they said our file was not in their system (Telling the truth, man!). After 2 or 3 weeks, they did asked a contact phone us, and we did receive the call; the guy said he would come to repair on either saturday or sunday, without telling when he would come. Guess what, the guy never show up. when we phone him on the late saturday or sunday, this guy did not anwer us. What a poor personality he is. If you can not come, just let us know and do not waste our time. If I knew and read this review earlier, I definitely would not install York From this company. Strongly recommend: NOT use this company if you do not want troubles. What terrible experience, and it is a nightmire.

Installation of the equipment was okay if you watched them very closely. I have to admit when I first used them I was unable to find so many negative reviews as I am finding right now. If I new I would have proabably spend the extra money to go with a larger company such as "direct energy". Been promised the world just like everyone, customer service and follow-up on fixing issues like my AC which I've been without one for 10 days are next to impossible form this company. Decided that the suffering is not worth it. Using the $180 fix it all from "Direct Energy" to get me going. Would not recomend this company to anyone. As everyone has stated, they are quick to promise the world, come and install it almost the next day but ongoing warranty is next to nonexistant. I had to vent and warn others...

From the sales man that came to my house I was very confident in this company and there service! I would like to thank them for gaining my trust and the great price on there product and also being fast and on the dot like they have promised. I am sure it is very important for everyone to know everything in details before spening money and Active temp control has answered all my questions and concerns that made me trust them with my money and my time. Thank again!

I purchased and installed York A/C from them April 2009. The sales is Roman. The installer was not professional at all. Created a mess and I didn't trust his work. They gave me 10 year labor and parts warranty on the contract. This year the A/C doesn't cool down any more and I called them 3 times and could not get warranty. Finally I talked to a rude man Paul (service manager). He said I have to buy maintainence plan $150 per year to keep the warranty valid. What a cash grab. Never deal with this company again. Poor install and customer service.
