The mattress off gases so terribly its not possible to sleep on it. They refuse to honor their return policy and I am stuck trying to sell this mattress privately, knowing that anyone who buys it will be unhappy with the smell. I did try to work with the company, however, they continue to avoid me, and will not honor their 60 day exchange policy. Do not buy from Ultramatic.

I purchased our Ultramatic bed some 20 yrs ago for medical purposes.Having read the great warrantee that they stuck under my nose every 2 minutes during the origional meeting I was ensured that there would never be any problems with the bed and any that should arise would be handled to my satisfaction.Time went by with no problems besides finding anything in the linen department of any store but theirs that would fit the mattress.About 1and a half years ago I had trouble develop with the controler.I contacted the company and the guy at the repair center said to send it in.I did so and he worked on it and sent it back in working order. It worked well for about 6 months then started to act up to the point where last night it stopped working altogether.I contacted the company this morning and inquired about purchasing a replacement as the mechanical coverage for the controler ran out after 5 years. At this point I was informed that the new controlers are not compatable with my bed and that the company has delegated their customer service to a company called Legette and Platte. So in effect Ultramar no longer is resposible for their own service on their own product. The shop where I had sent the controler before has been closed and apparently all that Ultramar does now is sell a product that they will no longer support themselves. So after talking with Legette & Platt I was informed that they would be very happy to sell the updated version of their controlers and the receiving mechanism that goes in the workings which by the way I would install for the low,low price of $200.00 or more per side plus shipping and taxes.Being on a disability pension for the medical condition mentioned earlier as one of the reasons for buying the bed in the first place I cannot afford to do this upgrade.Having nothing to loose I took the controler apart and found a black substance blocking the contacts.I cleaned this with an alcohol wipe and behold it is working.I presume this is what the service person did before and Ultramar will not do now.Being as Ultramar cannot see fit to provide the service required to keep these beds going I would suggest any future buyers think long and hard before laying out your thousands of dollars. If they cant fix a controller I'm afraid to think about any serious mechanical breakdowns

My husband and I purchased a king size ultramatic bed in 2000 (approx.) The set consisted of two single beds (together). We never found the mattresses comfortable and replaced them with Tempurpedic after a couple of years. Bedding is impossible to purchase as I need two single fitted sheets and one king top sheet. Open stock sheets are rarely available and I usually purchase two twin sets (including two useless single pillow cases) and stitch the two top sheets together. This is not my idea of a luxury bed! Reading in bed is impossible as when you raise the back of the bed your light source remains behind you. Duh! Also, a couple of years ago my converter control quit working and when I phoned the company they wanted $85. for a replacement. Life time guarantee on what!! Am I satisfied .. NO!!

We signed a contract and paid a deposit for an adjustable bed from Ultramatic on August 29, 2010 with a 10 day cancelation option. In a follow-up call to the marketing manager I was unable to reach her and has not returned my call. A week later I sent a detailed e-mail to the company and still there has been no reply. The ten day cancellation period has now expired. The local salesman also does not seem to want to talk to me either. Is Ultramatic a company that you can trust? I don't think so.

We are not happy with our beds! We bought 1 1/2 yrs ago - phoned the company within a couple months - could do nothing if we were not happy. The size of the single beds are odd - you have to buy special size sheets etc. We do not find them comfortable (the mattresses). I am real sorry we purchased these beds!
