Roy Gibson's expertise is drains. He is knowledgeable, more importantly, he's not afraid to share his knowledge. I had Roy come in with the camera to inspect my drain for damage and cracks. With the help of his equipment, I was able to see the condition of my drains. He also left me with a DVD of the recorded camera work. Finally, Ron traced the drains for me and educated me on what I needed and what I did not need. Clearly, my drains didn't need changing - as a result, Roy saved me a few thousand dollars. Thanks Roy! I know very little about traps. My architech remarked an odour coming from my sewer. I called Mayday based on the reviews posted on Homestars. Inspection was thorough and informative. He didn't tell me I needed any uneccessary extras and in fact made some excellent suggestions to cure future problems. In addition he has a great sense of humour and was a pleasure to meet.

He came exactly when he said he would. He is extremely knowledgeable (e.g., knowing which house traps are in which parts of Toronto due to when they were built). He explains everything. And when he was wrong about his initial guess (that he would need to plunge the house trap) there was no hedging or blustering--just oops that's not it, I'll have to snake it. He was here just over an hour and he charged me the MINIMUM service/visit charge! Except for the sewer smell while he was snaking (can't be helped!) the whole experience was remarkably pleasant. Nice guy (one man operation). Great price!

What could this company do to improve their services?
Nothing--he was perfect!
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Hire MayDay! I had to wait a few days (because this wasn't an emergency and I'm off his beaten track) but he was WELL worth the wait!!

After an initial visit from Roy in which he helped us locate our interior trap via a scope search and snaked our drain, roy had informed us that the problem could return as he noticed our trap and drain pipes were off-set. His snake could only get so far out. While water was flowing better he did not know if the fix would remain permanent of for how long. While this may not sound like a great diagnosis I was grateful for his honesty. At the time he let us know that the solution would involve excavating the basement inside the house. He quoted me an approximate price as a best guess which was much cheaper (probably a 1/3 of what competitors would have charged) and was extremely honest about what needed to be done, what the problem likely was and the amount of work involved. Unfortunately the problem returned about 3 weeks later and drains in my basement were backing up again. Roy returned and snaked again as a temporary fix. He noticed mud and was sure the trap was shot and the pipe likely collapsed. He phoned his contacts to see the cost and availability for them to fix the problem. Within 5 minutes he had a quote for me (at half the cost of his original estimated costs) and we had his team in for 8:30 am the next morning. Honesty, Great pricing, Efficient and accounable. Roy saved us a lot of money, time and headaches. His team made a surprisingly small hold, fixed the pipe in a shorter time than expected and were relatively clean considering the work that was done. On top of that, they snaked the new pipe right out to the city line to assure me there would not be additional problems and that there were no roots in the pipe. Thanks again Roy. I have already and will continue to recommend you to anyone in need of service.

We had a slow draining toilet. The bowl would fill quickly, the water level rise, and drain slowly. I had uninstalled it, snaked it, snaked the drain to the basement, snaked the venting, all to no avail. I called Mayday and spoke to Roy. He spoke with me for 20 minutes and gave me his free advice. In the end I installed a new toilet and all is well. Seems the old toilet was suffering some kind of blockage, but I'm unsure what it was. Roy was very helpful and friendly and gave me good advice while not earning a penny. The next time I need a plumber for a job I can't do myself, Roy will hear from me.

We used this company and we were very pleased with their work. Our drains were in need of repair to about 2' below the ground surface. We had numerous quotes and each person that came told us a different story as to what was required to fix the problem. Prices quoted were from $3,500.00 down to $850.00. I was given Roy Gibson's name from Mayday Drain Services and felt he was very honest in advising us what to do. I am so glad I chose them. Everthing from price, quick service, clean up, and most importantly the drains being fixed, we are 100% happy. Thank you for such great service and a job well done!

We were experiencing backup in the main drain line going out from our house. Before calling Roy, we had another plumbing company in to do a camera inspection. They found tree roots and told us the line could not be snaked out and we'd need to either replace or reline the entire pipe for a cost of almost $10,000. We found Roy on Homestars and called for a second opinion. He was quick to return my call, called to confirm the appointment, and arrived on time. He did a thorough camera inspection, explaining everything he saw, and provided us with a DVD of the footage. He then proceeded to snake out the line and cleared the roots. Calling Roy saved us almost $10,000. Thanks Roy!

I called Roy after first calling a few competitors. Roy was a referral from a friend of mine and that was the reason we ended up choosing him...and boy was this a great decision!. Roy was able to come to my house within 30 mins. After the city of Toronto wasn't able to help me or locate the sewer trap in my basement I started looking for drain specialists to offer additional assistance. Roy took a look and quickly was able to identify the right plan of attack. He located a drain to perform a camera scope from to try to find the problem. He immediately was able to get the camera to the trouble location and determine the exact location within the house with another tool that locates the exact point the camera reach too. Ironically enough the problem led right to the sewer trap that we didn't even know existed in the house. The next plan was to snake the clog out. Again Another successful job done quickly and without mess. Roy was a pleasant to speak with, was very honest and explained the reasoning, possible other problems and the next plan should a problem continue. Compared to other companies I had called for quotes he saved me a ton of aggravation and money. I would highly recommend Roy to anyone looking for an honest tradesman who knows what to do, is efficient and very friendly. Thanks again Roy!

This is the second time Roy has come for a visit to fix a situation. Our main basement drain backed up yesterday, I called Roy to come and check with his camera ( he was on vacation until yesterday and called early this morning and was here in a few hours, very professional ) He ran the camera through the main drain in the basement, we found the clog, he ran the snake from outside and completley got rid of all roots and debris that had collected from teh our old clay pipes. Everything was fully explained, using his equipment to show us exactly what was going on. Only took about an hour, very effective, he knows his @hit and gets to the point. I would recommend him to anyone and already gave his cards to a few people, no BS when getting pricing either, ask him on the phone and he'll let you know, ( had others wanting me to pay for a quote, then they'd tell me how much ) Roy was upfront on the phone, what the basic initial charge would be and then from thier we would see, but he's a strait shooter so no questions.. Thank you once a gain. JT

Get pricing upfront, as much as you can as any job can have special situations that will cost you more and obviously they will not know how much until they see it. But paying for a quote, is rediculous, i understand why they do it, but naa not for me.

Company Profile

Welcome to Mayday Professional Drain Services, a 24-hour, 7 day-per-week operation. We are fully insured and WSIB covered.

At Mayday, we pride ourselves on our outstanding record of customer satisfaction. For over 10 years, we have maintained a level of success that few can match! Through honesty, quality, competitive pricing and hard work, Mayday is respected industry-wide. Some of our customers include the King Township, the Town of Markham, Donald Construction and various school boards across the GTA. We have the highest rating on Homestars to-date and we were voted Best Drain Company in 2008. As a small company reliant on customer referrals rather than costly advertising and promotion (that you pay for in the end!), we are able to keep our operational costs down. The service and prices that we offer cannot be beat despite the claims of our competition.

At Mayday, we will:
Give a price over the phone for our services (no games);
Arrive at your home with the best and most high-tech equipment in the industry;
Understanding the problem and providing the most cost effective solution is what Mayday does best! Our record speaks for itself!

Few Tips:
Planning to finish the basement? Paving the driveway? Perhaps some expensive landscaping? Have a camera inspection completed from in-house to street main. It could save you thousands of dollars.
If a company tells you that you need to excavate, get a second opinion. In many cases, it is not necessary. Don’t be rushed into things.
Before you buy a home, ensure you have a main sewer drain inspection done from the house to the street main. In many cases, your home inspection may not catch these very costly drain problems.
