After getting quotes from 3 paving companies, and then reading about the horror stories that others had with those companies, I came upon Ludwig Paving Co. on Home Stars. I contacted them and there was no looking back! William came to estimate and explain the service that I would receive. He was punctual, friendly, extremely knowledgable, and committed to assuring me I would be satisfied with the work. Well, every cent was worth it. The excavation and paving were flawless. (The white custom made curbs were not done by Ludwig Paving. After the excavation, the curbs were made onsite by ProTech Curbs, and then followed by the precise paving job by Ludwig Paving.) The team of pavers from Ludwig are A-1. The job was done on time, and was flawless! In fact, if a driveway could be considered gorgeous, it was that! William was here for the whole process and it was evident that the whole team strive for perfection. The job was done in July 2012 and I know that THIS driveway will last for a very long time. My husband was thrilled with the work we recently contracted for our home and our neighbour's home. William Robinson came in on time and on budget, despite weaher delays and tight timelines. We continue to enjoy the expertly laid driveway and walkway. We also really appreciated the extra work that William undertook to find the exact interlock product that our neighbour wanted (we didn't have the name so he worked to match it). In my husband's words this company "knocked it out of the park". He found Ludwig Paving on Homestars and the positive reviews were spot-on.

Ludwig did an excellent job in paving our driveway. They had to take extra time to cut the roots under the driveway from a tree close by but they didn't charge extra for this added work. William was excellent to work with and very professional. We would use this company again.

These guys did a great job. they were quick and so friendly and accomodating when we asked them to do more than they originally had planned. They worked very well with our plans and explained everything. They even had to come back to regrade after a big storm.

Joe was excellent and knowledgable in his quote. The job was done well. My only suggestion is they use email transfer money to pay for the service vs cheque but they are looking into this service in future and welcomed the feedback.

We retained Ludwig for what amounted to three different jobs: (1) to install asphalt paving with curbstones on the presently used portion of our driveway, (2) to install turf-stone with curbstones on the now unused portion of a driveway, and (3) to replace an old cement sidewalk with sidewalk pavers. The work was carried out in three phases: a) removal of old cement driveway and sidewalk and laying down of gravel; b) installation of asphalt, laying of pavers, and laying of turfstones; c) correction of defects. The estimator was William Robinson, who demonstrated at all times a wish that we should be satisfied with the work, and who followed through with the correction of all defects to this end. The installation of the asphalt driveway was thwarted by hidden tree roots from the neighbour’s recently removed tree. Removal of the roots created damage along the borders between the new driveway and the front lawn. William provided additional soil and good quality grass seed to remedy this. The original installation of the sidewalk pavers omitted metal edge restraints, and resulted in spilled discolouring material on the new pavers that could not be removed. Instead of using metal edge restraints the team applied concrete along the sides of the new sidewalk. We indicated our dissatisfaction with the installation, and Ludwig totally removed the new sidewalk and replaced it with new pavers including metal edge restraints. We are very satisfied with the new replacment sidewalk. This was apparently the team’s first experience with the installation of turfstone, including the curbstone alongside. The turfstone was laid unevenly in spots, and one unit was broken when installed. The curbstone alongside was not high enough to prevent the soil behind from washing down over the curbstone. We indicated our dissatisfaction with this installation, and Ludwig levelled the turfstone where necessary, replaced the broken unit, and raised up the curbstone to a satisfactory level. Although initially we were dissatisfied with some of the work, Ludwig, in the person of William Robinson and his team, corrected all problems to our complete satisfaction. In many respects the job was a learning experience for both us and Ludwig. Because of the time we spent in communicating the nature of the problems, we are giving a score of 9 rather than 10.

My review of Ludwig Paving is a mixed one. Initially, we were pleased. The company provided us with a new driveway. The work was done in a timely manner. The pricing was not inexpensive but it was not unreasonable. We even referred customers to Ludwig. The warranty provided by Ludwig was only for one year. We weren't thrilled with the short warranty but we had no reason to think that we would have trouble with our driveway (our last driveway lasted decades, without cracking). Well...a little over the one-year mark...our driveway started to crack in three places with one crack being more than two feet long and branching out in all directions... We called the company repeatedly to ask for someone to come out to repair the cracks. After months of begging and many broken promises, someone finally came to our home. The cracks were blow torched but they were not repaired. The cracks remain and new cracks have developed. We have called the company and written the company and offered to pay for repairs (we don’t expect something for nothing) and the company has ignored us. It’s well and good to be responsive when you are soliciting a large job that pays well but what makes a company above average is when it stands behind its work and treats its customers with respect. The cracks in our driveway developed quickly. We shouldn’t have to beg Ludwig to repair them (particularly when are ready to pay); and, our calls and emails shouldn’t be ignored. This is NOT good customer service.

The crack in this driveway is caused by a large tree on the property that has been continuing to grow. As is standard in the paving industry, our contracts state that we do not cover damage from tree roots. However when you contacted us 2 years ago, even though it was after our 1 year warranty and this type of cracking isn't covered, we did return and provide a fix for you at no cost, in good faith. This year we were contacted by you to once again repair a crack in the driveway. We were courteous and promptly responded. At no time did you offer to pay for this job, but instead wanted the work to be performed for free. We are glad you were satisfied with the original job and hope you can understand our position.

We needed to completely repave our 30 year old driveway. It was cracked, patched, uneven. I found Ludwig paving on Homestars and called. William called and set up a time to give us a quote. He was personable, professional and knowledgable. I felt immediately that this was the company I wanted to deal with. The day they came to take up our old driveway, 4 huge truck and lots of equipment arrived. Looked like overkill, but made me feel we were getting lots of bang for our buck. The driveway was prepped and a few weeks later William called to set up to have the paving done. Again, lots of eqipment and crew arrived on time to repave. As promised, William was on site the whole time, making sure we were happy with everything. They did a fantastic job. All our neighbors have commented on how great the driveway looks. I would recommend William, George and the crew to all our friends and neighbors. I am so happy with the driveway and the knowledge and professional job they did. Thank you all so much. Thanks Deborah, for the kind words. Actually, what you saw was 3 large dump trucks and a pick-up truck. I assure you they are all needed. One has to carry asphalt or broken concrete (but not both), one has to carry dirt and one has to carry gravel. Having this flexibility with us at all times allows us to keep the price down: waiting for trucks is unnecessary downtime. When you perform the work to Ontario standards, as we do, with no shortcuts on quality and material, every detail counts. We do everything we can to make sure you don't get ripped off. Starting from getting the estimate and throughout this project, we have been dealing with Joe, the owner of the company. We find that Joe is comfortable to work with and is honest and responsive. Joe was present throughout the project to supervise, and even installed the interlock walkway himself. We requested to have the job done in a short time frame, and Joe made an effort to meet our requirement. The driveway and walkway are well done. The work done by Joe and his crew has enhanced the look of our property. In the process, Joe even fixed a sideline problem for us. Highly recommend this company to anyone.
