Me and my family decided to redo our entire main bath and contacted Handyman Connection as we had used them several times with great satisfaction. Tub, backer and tiles were installed by Mario Monaco who did an outstanding job. He had several good suggestions during the project which were implemented with results exceeding expectations. We are very pleased with the service and quality and will no doubt be calling Handyman for future work.

We hired handyman connection last year to tile a very small area in the front foyer (about 4 feet x 3 feet). The initial estimate was reasonable approximately $700. There were some complications and the handyman said he had to increase the cost -- he had removed the existing tile and the floor underneath was not the proper material so he had to put in a new subfloor -- this was fine -- however, the end cost of the job, NOT including materials was $3,000! Of course we had to pay as we could not leave the job half done. The other problem was that he took an entire week to do the job -- because he rarely showed up before 10 or 11 AM, took a couple of hours for lunch, and did not work until the end of they day. So I was stuck in the home waiting for him to show up. When I complained to Handyman Connection they said they would "pass the comment along". When I tell people I paid $3,000 for that tiny area in the front of my house to be tiled they look at me like I'm insane.

We chose to use a Handyman vs. a Contractor for part of our bathroom reno. The scope of the project included removing existing tub, plumbing, framing new tub, new plumbing and installing cement backerboard. By using a Handyman (vs. a Contractor) we saved enough money to invest in higher quality tiles (which we sourced to a tile contractor). Pro: the handyman assigned communicated with me a number of times before the project began, and even came to site the day before to do a walkthrough. I was out of town most of the week, but my wife tells me he was very communicative. The job was completed for the most part. Con: there was some sloppy workmanship and some corrections that I had to make to the project once complete. We went in with "eyes wide open" and expected this would likely happen. For example, incorrect plumbing fittings were used (we purchased a tub faucet which came with fittings that weren't used, which I had to replace) and large gaps inbetween the cemnt backerboard that I had to mesh and tape before the tile contractors came. I take partial responsibility for this, and acknowledge that if I wanted an A1 job done I would have hired a bathroom contractor instead. In my opinion, Handyman Connection will provide you with a proficient DIY'er. Fortunately my tile contractor was able to correct some of the work. Handyman does offer a warranty, but I felt it easier to fix the issues myself.

What could this company do to improve their services?
Use a more formalized training process for their Handyman, rather than using the customer as a guinea pig and taking customer feedback as the only determinant of a Handyman's proficiency.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Do your homework. Handyman Connection would be great for smaller projects. We rolled the dice and used Handymand for part of a bathroom reno.
Company Response:
This was valuable feedback, thank you for your detail and this will help us improve. We do lots of larger jobs and your comments are helpful

We converted a spare bedroom into a master ensuite and contracted Handyman Connection to comlete the work tiling and drywall. The folks at Handyman Connection did a decent job. They were responsive and worked with us on any complaints. But the handyman they brought in was brutal and required us to spend extra $$ to have his work either corrected or completed. I can't recommend these guys because you have little control over who they bring in.

Tried to find this customer in our database ( no last name ) - my best guess is the job was done about 2 years ago and we were not aware of any problems at that time. However all feedback is appreciated. After 15 years in business we have served and pleased 1,000's of customers.

The work was done to my satisfaction and a few days later, I had a problem with the ceiling fan / light...the service man came back a few days later. but before he did he spoke to me on the phone, then went on line from his home and found that this was an issue with many Hunter Ceiling fan/lights. He was able to come up with a solution and which allowed me to make use of the brand new fixture, without taking it back down and replacing it all over again. This was done at no extra cost to me. I felt Steve went the extra mile to find a fix for my brand new defective light fixture. Sure I could have taken it back, put together another one and had him install another brand new one but I had thrown away the receipt, since it was up and working. So I needed to make this one work and Steve did just that .

This was our second time using Mississauga Handyman and this was a small job. The job took longer then it was scheduled as the contractor had to pick his daughter up from daycare which made this a 2 day job. The workmanship was average as he had to leave early and rushed the mudding of the bathroom. He left without finishing the hallway explaining how to finish the job myself. He was easy to get along with however rushing the job we realized after painting the flaws of his workmanship. It was only when we painted the bathroom we noticed that we had to sand and mud his errors as well as finishing the hallway. I am giving Handyman Connection a high rating as the company provides skilled tradesman for smaller jobs.
