We are in the middle of our move. The on-site movers were on-time, professional and courteous. At first, we were dissastisfied with the administrative folks. We were concerned about an overall lack of responsiveness and a change to our moving date. However, after we escalated our concerns, we were pleased to have a very friendly customer service person (Laurie) work with us to resolve the situation to our satisfaction. Overall - worth considering.

"I'm thrilled that you have a Facebook page so that I can leave this message for y'all! I just used GCVL to move from Burnaby, B.C. to London, Ontario. I was so nervous about moving as I had a dreadful experience with another moving company recently. I dealt mostly with Rick, who is very professional and pleasant to deal with, and then the driver who drove my belongings to Ontario was Daniel! I can't fully express how happy I am with this move. I have not completely unpacked yet but all boxes are opened so I could have a peek and NOTHING is broken or out of place. It was such a pleasure to deal with Daniel and see his smiling face when he arrived in London. The guy is a gem and he has a heart of gold! Thanks so much again for taking such great care with my belongings! The next time I move, I know who to call! "

Attention Mr. Mark Valliant: My family moved this summer from Vancouver, BC to Winnipeg, MB with Great Canadian Van Lines. This was our third move in two years as we had to travel for my wife’s job. For our first two moves, we had hired the two big names in the moving industry. We were very disappointed by both companies as they failed to provide us with the service we had hired them to provide. Their level of incompetence was so bad that I felt obligated to write the CEO’s of both companies to inform them of the poor service they had provided us. Without going into too much detail, company 2 was 18 days beyond the quoted delivery spread with my wife being 6 months pregnant at the time. She spent close to 6 weeks sleeping on an air mattress. They also managed to “loose” our 42” plasma TV. The reason that I am writing you today is not to complain like I was forced to do in the past, but to congratulate you and your company on doing a fantastic job. As our previous two moves went so poorly, I was dreading having to move again. While searching for a company to move us from Vancouver to Winnipeg, Great Canadian Van Lines was recommended to us by our tenants who were renting our home in Winnipeg at the time. They had moved from Vancouver to Winnipeg with Great Canadian and had very positive things to say about their experience. With my faith in the moving industry completely shattered, I decided to take their advice and give Great Canadian Van Lines a chance. To my pleasant surprise, Great Canadian not only met my expectations, but blew them out of the water. With Great Canadian, it was refreshing to see a team of professionals working together as opposed to your competitors who displayed nothing but professional incompetence. The gentlemen that packed our belongings took great care in making sure our possessions were protected and packed safely. Amar was our driver and he was very professional on both ends as well. In conclusion, I just wanted to take the time to let you know what a great job you and your employees have done to make our recent move as stress free as possible. Great Canadian Van Lines will be our first choice if we ever need to move again and I will be sure to recommend your moving company to colleagues and friends for their moving needs. I thank you and your employees for taking pride in your work. The difference was night and day, and as a customer I have noticed. Regards, Kevin

Kevin, Once again thank you for taking the time to write this great letter. I have passed it along to all of the crews involved. Amar is in Vancouver this week and I made sure he got a copy of your letter as well. All the best to you and your family in Winnipeg. Mark

Right from the start, your entire staff provided fast, friendly and knowledgeable service, answering our many questions and being bang-on with the total estimate. When the crew arrived to begin packing our load into the truck, we were struck with how courteous and enjoyable they were to work with. From ensuring our home was protected to taking the time to learn and remember our children’s names (and referring to them often throughout the day!), we instantly felt at ease with having then handle our affairs. And to top it off, the move itself went flawlessly, with not so much as a scratched wall to ruin the day.

Chris, Thanks for moving with us a second time. I know your wife hates moving but we look forward to serving you again regardless. I hope you are enjoying the Rosemary Heights area, as it is more "kid friendly" neighborhood than your last location. Best Regards, Mark

Experience ranged from being screamed at and told I was stupid, to people telling me things that simply were not true to people refusing to take my calls. Don't use them. They are really nice upfront but once they have your money, all customer service is gone. Don't put your belongings into storage because when you do you pay in advance to move them out - having paid upfront, they will refuse to accommodate you at every turn because they are making new money from other customers and your money came in the door months prior. They are the worst movers I have ever used and I have moved 5 times over the past 4 years. Stay away from this company!

This is a difficult messaage to respond to as I am not quite sure who to respond to. Some of the comments you have made do not sound like they apply to any of our crews or agents. However if you are a legitimate customer our Customer Service Department we be pleased to hear from you and resolve any outstanding issues you may have. Please call us at 1800 665 0055 or email at info@greatcanadianvanlines.com Thank you Mark

We moved from northern alberta to southern alberta. They came in and packed everything for us, tagged it all and wrapped it in paper. Very fast. Took less then a day to pack up and load everything... even a piano. When we came to our new home the truck was parked there and waiting. Guys were very friendly and unpacked everything for us. Even great with my kids and dog. :)

Company Profile

Great Canadian Van Lines was conceived in the late 1980’s and commenced operations in Calgary, Alberta in 1990. The company relocated to the greater Vancouver area in 1992 and has operated from this area for the over 20 years.

Great Canadian is one of the six major van lines operating in Canada and was established because one of the original start-up partners (Mark Valliant) determined there was an opportunity in the long distance moving market within Canada. The existing van line business within Canada had complicated pricing systems, long delivery spreads, and an insurance system that benefited long distance moving companies but not the end customer. So Mark and his team built GCVL on three principles:

Our Pricing System - was developed so rates could be provided quickly, were self explanatory, and most importantly – affordable.

Faster Delivery Times – We determined that delivery spreads (the number of days it took your goods to be delivered) were too long in the industry. So we created more direct routing and scheduling. This allows us to deliver goods faster than most carriers in Canada.

Valuation Premium (insurance) – To better protect your goods and to ensure their safe arrival, we developed a unique program with our agent / drivers. They are paid the majority of the valuation premium (insurance component of your moving charges with us) as an incentive to protect your goods. If your goods arrive safely they retain these funds and are thus paid a bonus for taking greater care. This results in happy customers and the lowest claim ratio in Canada.

We provide all of our customer with a 14 Step Moving Process and a Customer Responsibility Form. These documents were designed with you in mind, and to help to guide you through each step of the moving process. Our job is to make sure you understand all of the important steps of your relocation from start to finish.
