I recently moved with the help of GCVL. They moved my furniture, belongings and car from Montreal to Calgary. Before the move, communications were with Rick (manager I think) and Conner (dispatcher). They were always available and pleasant to speak with. However there was once a question i asked Conner to which I was told that Rick would be calling me back with an answer. That call never came. My belongings were to be picked up from 2 locations; in a storage facility in Ville St-Laurent and an apartment in Cote St-Luc, in that order. The car was to be picked up 2 days later from a hotel. The move was to commence at noon. At 11:45am, Daniel (The driver) calls me to tell me he was going to be aprx. 3 hrs late. I was unhappy with the short notice to which Conner apologized. The rest went smoothly from there on out. In Calgary, Daniel +2 showed up on time. Unloading went fast and smooth. The one thing that did bother me was Daniel's denial and lack of responsibility for a broken wooden panel in back bottom of a dresser. He obviously knew about it because he had taped the broken piece together. He denied it and said it was broken from before. I let it go only because it was a hidden and non-important part of the dresser. I only mentioned it because it shows the type of character he is. As for the car, GCVL do not move vehicles so they sub-contracted my car's move to Livingston Ltd. Conner gave me an ETA as Apr.8. I called him on Apr.10 and asked him to contact Livingston to get an update. His answer was "I thought we already spoke about that last week?". I explained that I was renting a car and wanted to know how long was I to renew. He called me back a little while later, apologized and told me that the car has been in Calgary for a few days already. I did not appreciate that I had to hassle him for him to do his job. I would probably use GCVL again but I would stay on top of things by checking in with them every now and then rather than wait on them to contact me.

In April 2013 I moved from Calgary, Alta to Parksville BC. After much deliberation and searching onr reviews of moving companies I decided on Great Canadian Van Lines. From the initial phone call I was very impressed with the Company. I was not told my move would be $2,000 or $3,000 Laurie, the representative was very up front with the "real" cost of such a move. Nothing more was added in at the end of the move! Connor the contact at the shop was helpful and understanding and explained times and the details of the move. Larry and Brian the movers were fabulous very careful with all my belongings. I did not have one broken item and I had a lot of china and fragile items. I could not say enough good things about this company, they are honest, helpful and careful. One last thing, they arrive to pick up and deliver on time!!

It took me a long time before I could find a mover I thought I could trust. Eventually after reading some reviews, GCVL seemed to be the one with the best ones overall. I consistently found movers with terrible reviews and the top few companies charged way too much. Our move from Montreal to Vancouver could not have gone any better. The two different teams who moved us were all very nice guys and we didn't have one spec of an issue in both locations or with our dealings with the company directly. Additionally, our stuff arrived with 0 scratches, dents or any other sort of damage. It's hard to find good, reliable movers. In my experience GCVL is a great choice not only for those important factors but also because their prices are very reasonable for the quality of service.

This is a company people can trust. The cost may be not cheap, but the service was great. The night we received our goods, and noticed that our dining table leg was crack, they came in next day to fix it after informing them. Employees have such a great attitude, and they enjoy what they do.

I cant say enough great things about Great Canadian Van Lines. I spent a week scouring the web reading reviews and doing my research to ensure I made the right choice for my long distance move from Kelowna BC to Lacombe AB. The one company that kept coming to the top of the list was Great Canadian. I was so nervous because you hear and read so many horror stories of items lost or damaged but I am so grateful that I decided to go with them. They stayed in constant contact with me throughout the entire process. Dispatch emailed me at least 5 times leading up to my move to ensure they had every detail correct, they confirmed the date and time two days prior and the driver called me the morning of to confirm the arrival time. They were right on time and immedietly put down running matts and confirmed what was being moved and what was coming with us. They tagged every single item and inventoried it. They were courteous, efficient, polite and extremely considerate of our belongings. They provided the ticket with the prior weight from the weigh scale and once all packed up they went straight to the closest weigh scale and the driver called me with the final weight. He made sure I had his cell number so I had consrant contact at all times if needed. Their approximate delivery date was 2 days earlier then expected and they called the day before delivery and even the day of becuase they were running an hour late. When they arrived all of our belongings were there intact with not a single bit of damage, not even a dent in a box. I was extremely surprised and extremely happy. I was moving into storage so they were sure to ask what I needed to be left accessible and they even left some of my pictures and an expensive jersey case wrapped in their blankets and didnt charge us for them. From start to finish the entire team with Great Canadian was AMAZING I paid exactly what I was quoted except paid a bit more because the weight was higher then I expected but that was only because I told them I had 15 boxes when I really had 32. I would definitely recommend Great Canadian especially if you want a stress free long distance move! You get what you pay for and it was well worth the $2400. A HUGE thank you to Rick in Sales, Ian and Connor and even Gregg in dispatch and the biggest thanks to Larry and Dave the very hard working and dedicated guys who moved one of the heaviest couches out there who were extremely professional and friendly. Great job everyone! Thanks again Angelica & Nicole Lacombe, AB

This company was very professional - both pick up and delivery were on schedule and nothing was damaged. All furniture was well wrapped. Bill, the driver/mover and his helpers were excellent. I would recommend this company without reservation.

This past January I chose Great Canadian Van Lines to move my apartment contents across Canada from Ottawa, Ontario to Edmonton, Alberta. I had to move on fairly short notice and as a result was forced to choose a moving company based on online reviews and quick quote checks. I am VERY pleased with the fact that I chose GCVL to move my items. What a fantastic group of people. Fast, efficient, and effective. The sales rep I spoke to set up everything for me very quickly and was able to answer any and every question I threw her way. I requested a morning pack and load time and sure enough the packer and her moving team were right on time. They were fast, quick, and very very friendly. They took my items and told me that the GCVL dispatcher would be in touch with me ASAP to provide me with a final price (based on weight) and an arrival date. Sure enough a few short days later I received a call from the dispatcher who was able to give me a final price and an idea of when I would have my items. He then kept in touch over the course of the next week and a half by giving me updates. After that week and a half I got a phone call from the delivery driver who was able to confirm a firm date and time for my item delivery. The 2 man delivery team arrived right on schedule and were able to move all of items into my apartment in no time at all with very little disruption to me. They were very friendly and helpful. After the delivery team left and I began to unpack my items and I noticed that there was a significant puncture through my television box. I had self packed my TV in its original packaging. I pulled out the TV and noticed there was a large chip out of the screen which had damaged the whole panel. Even though the TV was self packed it was fairly evident that it had been damaged during travel. I immediately contacted GCVL and they were quick to direct me to the steps that I needed to complete to file a claim. I submitted my claim electronically and in no time at all was in touch with a claims rep. The claims rep reviewed the documents that I submitted and in a few short days was able to get approval to replace the TV for me. She even offered to upgrade it to a bigger model due to the fact that my model was no longer available. I replaced the TV and in a few days had a check from GCVL for the full amount in my mailbox. GCVL is a customer service oriented business who honestly and truly cares and looks out for their customers. If I ever move again I won't even call around for other quotes. GCVL is the number one choice and they stand behind their company.

We had been in search of a responsible moving company for some time before coming across Great Canadian Van Lines. We were scheduled to move in July and were concerned that it was high season and the prices would be a lot higher. Mark from GCVL returned my call on the same business day and he provided an estimate over the phone, which seemed to be better and more detailed then the others we received. He also was able to provide moving and packing tips, to help us be prepared and save time and therefore more money. I don't usually do online reviews however it was an all-round great experience and job well done. The movers that were assigned to our move were respectful, careful and worked hard to get the job done. They went out of there way to ensure that our belongings were safely packed and stored and placed on the truck. They seemed to be extremely organized as they managed to put everything in the right rooms once they arrived at our new destination and reassemble some of our bedroom furniture quickly, making a lot less work for me and my wife. I highly recommend GCVL and will use them again

Great Canadian Van Lines packed up our storage container in Vancouver, and moved us to our new home in Toronto. Dan called regularly with updates, and he arrived with the van exactly when he said he would.

Company Profile

Great Canadian Van Lines was conceived in the late 1980’s and commenced operations in Calgary, Alberta in 1990. The company relocated to the greater Vancouver area in 1992 and has operated from this area for the over 20 years.

Great Canadian is one of the six major van lines operating in Canada and was established because one of the original start-up partners (Mark Valliant) determined there was an opportunity in the long distance moving market within Canada. The existing van line business within Canada had complicated pricing systems, long delivery spreads, and an insurance system that benefited long distance moving companies but not the end customer. So Mark and his team built GCVL on three principles:

Our Pricing System - was developed so rates could be provided quickly, were self explanatory, and most importantly – affordable.

Faster Delivery Times – We determined that delivery spreads (the number of days it took your goods to be delivered) were too long in the industry. So we created more direct routing and scheduling. This allows us to deliver goods faster than most carriers in Canada.

Valuation Premium (insurance) – To better protect your goods and to ensure their safe arrival, we developed a unique program with our agent / drivers. They are paid the majority of the valuation premium (insurance component of your moving charges with us) as an incentive to protect your goods. If your goods arrive safely they retain these funds and are thus paid a bonus for taking greater care. This results in happy customers and the lowest claim ratio in Canada.

We provide all of our customer with a 14 Step Moving Process and a Customer Responsibility Form. These documents were designed with you in mind, and to help to guide you through each step of the moving process. Our job is to make sure you understand all of the important steps of your relocation from start to finish.
