We got several quotes for our roof. Better contracting had the highest estimate by far, but I too was fooled by the Mike Holmes stamp of approval. The job went smoothly, looked fine, and everything seemed OK until we noticed the plaster bubbling in our living room ceiling. I called customer service and was told it's not a problem with the roof and they couldn't send anyone out because the weather wasn't very good lately and their schedule was backed up. Great customer service - I'm sure they would have said the same thing to Mike himself! They said they'd call back in a few weeks. A few months went by and our plaster ceiling continued to degrade. Finally, in desperation we climbed into the attic to see what the hell was going on. Turns out there was a gaping hole in the flashing next to the chimney. We called again and demanded they send someone out to fix it. He took a picture of our plaster and put some caulking in the flashing and told us that it needs to be replaced every two years! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? This is what I sold my precious motorcycle to pay for!? This is their idea of a 'prompt' repair, as described in their 10-year 'gold' plan!? Now I have to go back and try to get someone to pay for the repair to my plaster ceiling, I wonder how that will go. Clearly there are a lot of happy customer reviews, so I wonder why I got picked for the second-class treatment.

I purchased gutter guards (from Cdn tire ) only to find that two more pieces were required to complete the job,and that the retailer was only able to sell a complete box of five pieces. I contacted Better Contracting Services who are the distributor for that product. They were very courteous and prompt in sending me what was needed to complete the job, AT NO CHARGE ! Now how often does that happen. Thank you BCS.

I’ve thought long and hard how to put into words how extremely pleased I am with the work of Better Contracting. In a society that is so used to hearing and giving complaints, it's hard to come up with the right wording to express sincere gratitude in someone's excellent workmanship. It's rare that you come across a company who epitomize quality and excellent customer service as much as they do. I had 3 companies come in and give me quotes prior to calling Better Contracting. When I met Mike, I knew that he was the person I wanted to give my business to. He and his team took my house and brought life, character, curb appeal and incredible functionality to an old, tired, and poorly ventilated roof. Mike and his team - including Deb in their office ( I hope I remembered her name correctly) are the ultimate professionals and they have absolutely proven that they know their work and take a lot of pride in their jobs. Debbie kept me informed of when my special shingles would be arriving and when to expect the crew to arrive. The guys on the site were so professional and meticulous - constantly cleaning as they worked. Mike brought his expertise and recommended the best approach, the best colour and the best products that suited my house location, lifestyle, pocketbook, and wishes. I knew nothing about roofing and I put my entire trust and faith in their hands. Their attention to detail compares to no company that I have ever come in contact with before. I can't stop looking at the job that they did. It still brings a huge smile to my face each time I look at it. I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. This necessary expense was well worth every single cent I spent. I'm so proud to say that Mike Graves and his team of ultimate professionals worked on my house. I would highly recommend this company in a heartbeat - and have already sang their praises to anyone who asks. A true - heartfelt thank you to the entire team.

I contacted Better Contracting Services to come and replace our roof vents as we had snow get into our attic through the originals that our builder installed. Their Sales Representative Paul, arrived promptly during the scheduled time and quickly took the information that I gave him about our roof vent problem. He suggested some better roof vents that they could install. The quote was very reasonable including replacing 8 roof vents for the attich and two bathroom vents. Scheduling the work was very easy with Debbie in their Customer Service Team and even though we had to reschedule the work because of a conflict they were accomodating with the new date. However, to my pleasant surprise, Better Contracting came five days early to do the work! They finished everything with two hours and there was no mess for me to clean up around the house. The new vents look great! They were even quite accomodating about payment for the work. They were fine with a delay in payment until their accountant returned from vacation! This is definitely a excellent company and I found doing business with them to be terrific experience! I would use them again for any future roofing needs that I have with our house.

After a lot of research and quotes along with time spent we decided to go with Better Contracting to replace our roof. This decision was the best decision we made. Mike Graves came out to give us a quote, he advised us of our options and what his recommendations were. We told him our concern and what we had encountered in the past and was genuinely attentive and comforting that our experience with Better Contracting would be a positive one. Indeed it was. Jeff, Carlos and Jamie along with a couple of other men came out when Mike said they would, they were on time, and they were hardworking and did exactly as Mike said they would. They were diligent in ensuring no damage was done when the old roof was coming off and were on top of cleaning up debris as soon as they were done. They were very careful and respectful of our neighbour’s property as well to ensure no debris went over to their side. They kept us up in the loop of what they found on the roof and assured us there were no damaged boards or any other concern once they pulled off the shingles. They did a fantastic job, they came back the second day to finish up and inspected the roof to ensure everything was done to perfection. They cleaned up the area completely and when they left it was as if no one was ever there. They were hard working men; they worked well together and did a wonderful job. We called Mike and told him the crew was done, we were happy with the work and were ready to pay him. Mike called back and said super, I'm glad you are pleased with the roof and that he would be back during the week to obtain the balance of the payment. In between we had a couple of really hard rain falls and felt safe and secured that our roof not only held up to the storm but would hold up for at least another 25 - 30 years ahead. Thank you Mike for coming through as you said you would, when you said you would and with the efficiency and professionalism you said you would. Thank you to your labourers they did a wonderful job and we appreciated the care they took on our roof and the care with our property and our neighbours property. Our experience with Better Contracting started well. As touted by the company, it is a Holmes approved contractor. We were satisfied to have received a timely response from the company when we requested for an estimate. Murray came by and provided us with good insights. It was refreshing to have a contractor come in and not upsell their services. The work was scheduled and was done a week ahead of schedule. The shingles were removed and replaced in one day, with the men working more than 12 hours. However, we noticed that there were portions of the sid of the roofs where some of the roof booards were left exposed to rain and ice (like some amateur roofer did the work or the work was completed in a rush). We pointed this out to Murray when he came to collect the rest of the fee, and he agreed that it was unfinished. He even suggested that we hold on to some portion of the fees until the work got completed. My husband said that as the company came highly recommended by Mike Holmes and we are satisfied with their work to date, we will pay in full and put our trust on the company and Murray that they will complete their work and TRULY Make It Right!!! Numerous follow-up calls and messages left with Murray, with him promising to get somebody to come in and fix the unfinished work----nothing has happened. Worst of all, the wood trimming on one of side of the roof that Better Contracting workers removed and placed back has now come off, dangling from the side of the roof. And it has only been 2-3 months since Better Contracting did our roof!!!! What will it take to get Better Contracting to come and finish their work on our roof?

Our experience with Better Contracting started out very well. Murray came out to give us an estimate for an admittedly tricky job. He was encouraging, optimistic and reassured me that they were 'can do guys' and could handle the work. About a week later, he showed up at my door with the estimate. I reviewed with my husband and we had a few questions, but intended to move forward. I left a message for Murray, didn't hear back, followed up a week later...no response. I have called and left messages for him and customer service 8 times over 7 weeks and have never heard from anyone. We are getting other quotes, but I just can't understand a company that doesn't respond to prospective clients...infuriating.

Better Contracting replaced our flat roof this past winter (December to January) and this spring, after a heavy rain, I noticed a small bit of debris on the inner glass of our kitchen skylight. The outer plastic bubble had been replaced when the roof was done. I contacted them, and in a very short space of time, a guy showed up on my roof, and then another, and they spent somewhere between 2 to 3 hours diagnosing the problem and repairing it. The frame that held the skylight bubble had a tiny gap in one small area, not quite visible to the naked eye. They took the time, solved the problem, and again I'm really happy I spent my $43,000 with the right contractor. They are an amazing company. I chose this company because Mike Holms uses them on all his shows. I should have done more research. It took 4 dates to get them to do the roof (1 day they came out after I called and complained that they still hadn't shown up. They said they didn't know how long they could stay because it looked like rain. They stayed 10 minutes then left; it didn't rain at all) When they finally showed up on the fourth date, the work was sloppy! The shingles were crooked; the vents didn't line up with the holes; and they didn't install the smart screens. The salesman came out to inspect the roof at my request (demand) and noticed they re-used some flashing that should have been replaced. The office staff couldn't understand why I was upset and became very condiscending. The shingles arrived on the originally scheduled date and sat on my driveway for over 2 weeks. The dumpster showed up on the second scheduled date and sat (in the middle of my driveway - no parking) for four days, not to mention the clean up - they swept the driveway where they laid the tarp, but didn't clean the back patio. I had to go around picking up garbage which included fishing shingle wrap out of my front tree. I haven't heard anything yet from the company since the salesman came to inspect 3 days ago. Suffice it to say I will NOT recommend them to anyone! UPDATE - A few weeks ago I received a phone call from B.C. saying they would be out the following week to make any corrections and repairs; no show again but I received another phone call saying they would be out to install the smart screens...I wasn't holding my breath. The following Wednesday (and to my surprise), the B.C. truck showed up at my door. Two gentleman were here to install my smart screen. I voiced my complaints again with them; they seemed to think it was probably a subcontractor and explained they sub out work when they're busy, but promised to take back my complaints to the office. The next morning, another B.C. truck arrived with one gentleman to make repairs. He was also very kind; he apologized for my trouble and said the smart screens (approx.$350) would be free and could I update my review on Homestars. He spend almost 2 hours fixing, repairing, and caulking. Before he left, he asked about payment and I said it would be on credit, but I was still waiting on my copy of the contract that I never received. Within an hour of his leaving, I received an email with my contract attached and within an hour of that, I received a phone call regarding payment. I was told they don't take final payment on credit and the saleman that said I could was wrong. For some reason, she changed her mind when she realized that I live in Milton. That was on Thursday; the following Monday I was contacted because I still hadn't updated my review...I told her I was waiting for payment to go through first. So here I am. I guess the moral of the story is to make sure the contractor you hire is actually going to do the work and not subcontact it out. I would have been happy to wait to have the company I hired do the work; after all, it's their reputation I was hiring in the first place.

My roof presented a challenge - it is low-slope (2/12) plus mansard. Several contractors declined to quote on the job because of these challenges. The PROFESSIONALS at Better Contracting Services explained their recommendations to me clearly and then implemented their plan EXPERTLY. Willing answering all my questions. My wife has a garden often on garden tours and the workmen were very careful to protect everything and clean up thoroughly afterwards. Even coming back for a followup inspection and to ensure that I was completely satisfied. They had the proper equipment and expertise to ensure a topnotch quality job. (I can't recommend them to my mother since she is dead) I would certainly recommend them if you want an A-1 QUALITY job done efficiently by professionals.
